I think Osgood recent words that "he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs" should be considered the second official wake up call. Wow, is all I have to say. If I'm Nick Lidstrom hearing those words or "I feel great out there" or how about the classic "To be totally sincere, I really feel I'm going in the right direction heading into the playoffs, I feel really good and I feel that is going to be my time this year" I'm laying awake in bad at night wondering what else the little voices in Osgood head are telling him. Its obvious that if there is any chance of success this play off the rest of the team will have to play near to perfect because every mistake they make has good potential to end up in the net.

Osgood says he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs
The Secret replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Well, now that Osgood has said he is ready to lead the team in the play offs I really do feel much better. Why esle would he say that? He says he feels great out there and he is going in the right direction going into the play offs. Who needs on-ice performances to backup your words? Playing good hockey is so over-rated anyway, talking about playing good hockey is really where its at! Atta boy Ozzie keep up the great work.... because your good enough, and smart enough and dog gone it people like you! -
The regular season is done, no more time for show and tell. Every other F'ing team in now coming after the toy you fought so hard to get last year and they want to take it away from you. Its time for every man on this team to take his heart and his balls out of his wifes purse and put them back where they belong.... at least until they win the cup again, then they can go back to the wives for safe keeping. Step up boys, 1 and all! Babcock too, time to start cracking the whip and reward only those who show up and punish those who don't. Our bench is deep... reaches all the way to Grand Rapids and there are guys hungry to play!

I just hope they give Conks a few starts to see if he can get his game going... you know like they have been doing for Osgood all season.

Make sure to stop and get a few dogs after the game at Lafeyette Coney Island!

Conklin to start Thursday; Rafalski out again

Good enough to be moved quite quickly by both teams, like all the good goalies in the league. He was so good the Wings put Osgood on waivers after not being able to trade him for anything. And again in St. Louis they thought so highly of him that they chose to let his contract expire rather than to keep the guy they had nothing but good things to say about?! Hmmm! Here we are this year, games away from the play offs with Osgood as the #1 goalie and posting numbers near to the worst in the league. He can play well enough, we all know that, but he can also drop the ball and play like he has this entire season. If he doesn't find his confidence and he either loses his spot on the ice or he backstops us to a miserable early playoff exit where do you think that will leave him for next year? -

Then why is this happening only to Osgood and not to Conklin? Do you think the entire team, minus the goaltenders, decide before the game to play better in front of Conklin and not as good in front of Osgood? I've said it before and here it is again... no one says anything about the goals that get in, BY ANYONE, if they are impossible to stop. The killers are the one's that should be stopped that seem to get by Osgood way more often then by Conklin, and more so there are sometimes several in a game getting by Osgood that can and should be stopped. Btw, this same conversation was had during Osgood last run with Detroit and I am willing to bet the same conversations were had in New York and St. Louis.... the guy has never had it in him to be a Full Time starter, never he can't handle it! -
Hahaha I hadn't thought about it but I think it would be Caca.

Mac will always be a favourite in Hockeytown but he is too injury prone to be anything like he was. My guess would be that we will not see him in the line up unless we have an injury or need to shake things up. If its more grit we need and we have to choose between Mac and Downey I think an old, worn out Mac still bring more to the table then Downey ever would.

Conklin to start Thursday; Rafalski out again

Defensive lapses hurt for sure but there are other players that can hopefully make up the difference and one of those players is always the goalie... its the nature of the position. When a goalie lets in a goal (or more) that should be a routine save, especially in a close game, it sucks the energy out of the entire team, the crowd and also changes the momentum to favour the opponent.... it does more damage over-all then just on the score board. -

I agree with you ben. f*** the guy is good for 1 or more softies per game and they are never when we have a good lead, they are almost always at crucial points when we need him to do his job and make the stop. Defenses will make mistakes and so will the goalies but the goalie has to be on the spot for all the stops he NEEDS to make. No-one ******* about the goals he had no chance on but on all the many many that are stoppable that squeak past him. I don't care evrn that he makes 3 high-light reel saves just before he lets in the back-breaker. Plus, its the same D that plays in front of Conks but the outcomes are most often drastically different... But there is no way of showing the Osgood blowers the truth. -

EDIT: I read just imagine an Ericsson/Lilja pairing and this was my reply (Ericsson/Fischer would have been even better and they nickname could stay): I was totally anti-Lilja until this year and although I am not a fan yet he has caught my eye with a much improved game in all area's except fighting and quality of his shot. Over-all he has really proven to be an excellent keep for the 3rd pairing and that is a very hard thing for me to say. Lilja and Ericsson... The Twin Towers! I really like the sound of that.... you hear it here first folks!! Although I like Ericsson spending some quality time with Chelios in hope that he learns to have Cheli's bite and competitive spirit. -
I agree with you.... I like music of all types and I also like comedy of all types and I just found this was all around Lame. Not because I am a Crosby fan but just because it was a horribly written tune and the lyrics were not funny at all. It was either a really lame attempt at trying to be a band or a lame attempt at trying to be funny either way the over-all result was LAME and not funny.

Thank God for Conks and let's hope he gets his dues and he shows his worth. Sad news on Raffy but the good thing to come is more playing time for Ericsson who is looking steady already... Wait till that boy grows into that body, he could be a force. -
Osgood was unproven in the play offs at one point in time too. He was just lucky enough to play for a team that made the play offs alot. Besides that his play off past can do nothing to correct the garbage he is playing right NOW. He has been nothing but a great backup or a mediocre starter his entire career and right now I would settle for that because he isn't even close to being either of the 2. Anyway, I would take an unproven Luongo any day over a 3 time cup winning Osgood. Luongo is in a totally different class then Osgood, there is no comparison... And Cujo was not a miserable goalie, he was a great goalie who got bum rushed here in Detroit.

This team is good enough that all they need is someone they are OK with. I am OK with Conklin too. He will not ever be an elite goalie nor do we need him to be, all we need him to be is consistantly good... not great just good. The team is good enough to take care of the rest. Osgoods soft goal don't usually come when the game is at a safe distance, they come in the heat of a hard fought game and they are almost alway back breakers, momentum changers and that sucks the energy out of the entire team. He faces what 25 shots per game on average... common! He might even make 2 or 3 spectaular saves but then lets in a poorly timed softie that reduces all the efforts to that point to nothing. Our success in the PLay offs will not hinge on anything more important the consistently good goaltending and Osgood cannot be trusted this year for that. THE END!
-
I hear what your saying but I think they have to stay as positive in the public eye as possible.... what goes on behind closed doors is certainly to sound alot different then what they want us to hear. He watched the same garbage we did, he's just not at liberty to say the same things we are. I think they are having a hard time pullling the plug on a player they know can play well enough to backstop the great team in front of him but I bet by now the team, the coaches and the rest of the organization are worried whats going to happen with the garbage goaltending of Osgood. God help us!
-
What is really sad is that we do not even need an elite level Goalie to win it all... Osgood proved it again last year. Last season Osgood played adequate enough and even had it in him to steal 1 or 2 games.... thats all we need from him just to be consistently average, like his entire career. But this year is a totally different story. I hope he can play well enough but there is not even a sign to build hope on. And there are still Osgood lovers blaming everything except for the one person responsible for it all... Chris Osgood, he is to blame. It's not our Defense, although they are not up to the norm for what we are used to seeing they are still better then most. Put Osgood on just about any other team in the league and he is setting new records for the worst season ever by an NHL goalie. If he is this bad on the 2nd best team in the league he would have been tombstoned along side Legace if he were still in St. Louis. A bad game here or there is to be expected but this year he has had a good game or 2 and the rest have been terrible to say it nicely.
-
Osgood is crap, I am sick of the guy this year and I don't care that he played great last year and won a cup. He has been a liability for most of the games he's played this year and I am so sick of this guy.

Come on now Drake. You should know by now that thoughts, comparisons, different opinions, fun and humour are not allowed in this discussion board. If what your saying isn't exactly like what Shoreline would say then why say it at all? People aren't allowed to join here to discuss what they want, they come hear to say the same thing as everyone else and to make sure they have their own silly thoughts washed from the brain and replaced by the collective thoughts of the LGW mind. I'm still resisting the blue pill and I still have silly thoughts that Fullapoolah still plays like a 3 million dollar ringette player and show us his NHL talent far too few times in a season. After all it is his 3rd full season and he should be stabilziing by now. And I do not by the fact the its because he is on the 3rd line. Yes, 3rd line gets less minutes but if a player is ready (see Leino), eager and his skills are sharp he will make the best of every second he is on the ice and right now I'm not happy with Valery yet. He is sitting on some valuable money that could be used to keep or sign some more productive players. ****wait *****something is happening ****valteri is worth every penny and is only playing like a s***tier, less consistent version of a future valteri ****** and Osgoods second goal ****** was the defenses fault . I see it all so rosy red and clearly now. You know what... I think I feel the need to officially change my name to Homer now? Wierd.

I would be happy to see Sammy, Kopecky and Hudler replaced by Leino, Helm and Abdelkader, esespecially of we could sign both Hoss and Franzen.... Would be a nice improvement IMHO.

Sorry folks, I did not read any other posts just got to the game at 3-0 and Osgood on the bench.... did he s*** the bed again? Or are we getting pushed around? Whats going on this game? PS. I hate the Flamers!

Hahaha, you are right that was special. It was the Popeye corkscrew punch to the back of the head which sends your opponent spinning to the ice... not many people can pull that off.
