I do not like the Red Wings being given the favourites tag, maybe I am just superstitious?! I think these days that any team that makes the play offs has as good a chance as any to win. Our club will have definite advantages in our favour but seems the most dangerous teams are the one's that fight for the final play off spots at the end of the year because they enter the play offs already in survival mode their killer instinct is already primed. To our advantage is the mid to late season adversities that we have to get through because it seems to get us into that same survival/killer instinct mode come play off time.

I would go for this.

Still for some reason i am not at all worried about the Flamers? They have definitely improved but for some reason I don't think they have it in them to go the distance.

True Probert had problems off the ice but what he did on the ice made up for it all. Avery's problems are poisonous to the health of the entire team and his distractions have the potential to ruin the bond in the dressing room. He's an annoying little lippy bastard that's good at agitating and scoring some goals but takes things to extreme's. If he picks up where he left off someone will knock the s*** out of him for sure, I'll put money on that.

That was hilarious, looks like they were having fun. Nearly kills himself and M. Green... thats kind of funny too after to actually seeing the video, another huge over reaction. Funny though, thanks for the laugh.

Thats the heart for the team and for the game that makes Hossa a requirement to sign here. Hossa is made for this team. I do hope they give him a few days rest to ensure he is 100%, no sense even risking anything further when its not necessary. If it was game 7 of the SCF then it would be hard to say no to him but right now I would much rather err on the sdie of caution. Thank God for Hossa!

He's finally put together a few productive games but I'm not convinced. The guy is physically weak and weak on his skates. I will give him credit for the few good games he's had... finally! But I am not ready to eat anything and still feel that we have way better options available and I would still gladly hold the exit door to make it easier for Kopecky to leave.

Thank God for this news. By the way people re-acted I thought he might have been beheaded until I finally saw the replay. It was just 2 guys playing hockey the way I saw it, was unfortunate but thats about it.

I understand the benefit of what an enforcer can add but some people think that their presence makes the cheap things stop. It doesn't. I'm all for a guy like Neil, someone who can add something to the game other then just the willingness to throw fists. I think Neil can chip in with some points ( like Probie could) unlike Downey.

Some folks around here make it sound that having an "enforcer" in the lineup somehow magically makes the other team think twice before hitting the elite players or fighting.... simply not true. I say "enforcer" because I was referring to Downey who is more of a sparring partner then enforcer. He fights but that does not make him an enforcer... I think you have to win fights to be considered an enforcer.

Wait, wasn't having Downey in the lineup supposed to magically prevent this sort of thing from ever happening?

Precautionary measures to take him off and ensure he is alright.... no need to bury him. Let's let the Doctor's evaluate him before we all chip in and buy him a tombstone. People on this site are insane sometimes.

Better he sign there than here. He has potential but I would not want to pay him to act like a dickhead and create problems on and off the ice. Risky move by the Rangers, especially after Dallas dropped him like they did.

I can't remember who it was but there was a member of LGW that was very happy about Pare signing in GR and said to keep and eye on him. Seems to be making a name for himself and strengthening our team in GR and potentially here too.

Of course he is a Canadian homer... who isn't going to be supportive of their own first and foremost? I prefer Canadians players myself and have long wanted more Canadians and/or American players on our roster. They provide a different aspect to the game that is not a part of the European style. I'm not saying the Euro's can't play that way but for the most part they don't. I also agree that our cup winning teams from 97 and 98 had a great mix of both NA and Euro and gave us a much more exciting product. We had it all... great goal tending, scoring, passing, defense, passion, heart, hitting, fighting, fancy plays and good ol' dirty hockey too. Cherry's opinion can be a little much but the jist of what he is saying is true. People around here consider Lilja to be our enforcer... thats a laugh. People around here crave Downey, who is useless except for that fact that he hits and will fight... they want more of it. The air Cherry blew about Lidstrom is true... so what? He doesn't hit and thats part of Lidstroms game... if Cherry doesn't like that big deal... its still true though and so is the fact the despite not being a hitter he is the best defensemen to play the game. Anyway, I'd love to have some good NA players in the mix with our good euro players and bring back what we had in 97/98 days.

Good chance of that too as I think Datsyuk will be kept around alot longer then Fedorov and I think he will play at a high level alot longer then Fedorov.... who's career began to fizzle out after leaving Detroit. Although judging a players heart for the game is in the eye of the beholder, it is also a quality who's importance is immeasurable in terms of value... I'll take Datsyuk anyday over Fedorov.

Sorry I Should have been 100% crystal clear but I wasn't. I was comparing the ability to vanish (Datsyuk, previously in the play offs vs. Fedorov's amazing ability to vanish at will) and heart for the game despite play off game or reg season (By this I am comparing Datsyuks heart in overcoming his previous lacks and continuously getting better for his good and that of the team vs. Fedorov who gave his life to his Dad, his balls to his gf, heart to the grinch who stole christmas, and his loyalty to Anaheim... and has sucked ever since). ...let me check my spelling and my grammar. I think I am good to submit.

I haven't thought about how to make it happen but I would love to have Ryan Smyth suit up for us. I think Smyttie would be a mean machine in Detroit.
