    Corey Perry

They are both about to make around the same amount of money, that was the main thought that I had. I didn't check how old they were... obviously youth is on Perry's side but its not like Franzen is a useless old geezer. I personally think that Franzen has the better skill set over Perry. Perry has an edge to his game that Franzen does not and thats why i would prefer Perry over Franzen. I wasn't suggesting this trade was even possible only that I'd be happy if it were to happen.

Red Wings' Darren McCarty back on the ice

I think Chelios is great and can still contribute. Unfortunately for Cheli is that we have some youngin's that are ready and need to play and that may make Chelios expendable for next year. I for one wish we could keep Chelios around. McCarty on the other hand is way too injury prone, which to me is a wasted roster spot for a younger, healthier option. Mac has the heart of a lion but he's lost a few steps, can barely hold his own in a tussle and is a fraction of the player he once was. I love Mac but whats best for the team comes first IMO.

You should be able to make an opinion of Hossa by now for yourself. He is worth every bit what was paid and more. Not only does he work his arse off every night but I've read plenty of articles that say he is a great guy and the players love him. I will disagree with the statement about Perry as well. He is a pain in the ass to play against and thats what makes him great. He does it all and would benefit any team. I for one would love to have Perry in Detroit... I'd even trade Franzen for Perry because he brings some grit and energy that we could use as well he can score and agitate.

    An Odd Feeling

I often wonder what Kopecky would look like in a Maple Leafs jersey... or how about a Canadiens jersey? Maybe we will be lucky to see it happen sooner then later.

Ericsson to leave? Toskala to arrive?

No way. Not for Ericsson. I'd be interested to see what Toskala could do in Detroit but not at that cost. Forget it.

Red Wings' Darren McCarty back on the ice

Welcome Bama, McCarty is a great guy for the locker, its true but we really have plenty of other great locker room individuals. I will always remember Mac and what he has done but he isn't even half of the player he once was and he is so injury prone. He may be one of our only players that will drop the gloves but i don't feel his presence will intimidate nor deter anyone from pushing any of our players around. Maybe if we could combine bits and pieces of Mac and Downey we could have a legit player but as it is I don't see much benefit from having Mac on the team anymore. His best years are way behind him and thats just life unfortunately. I think we fans a starved for a player like the Mac of old.

Maybe that hit count is how many times he's hit the ice? He's great at those type of hits. I still think he has possibility to be a 20 goal scorer if they'd let him use a snow shovel instead of a hockey stick.

Red Wings' Darren McCarty back on the ice

McCarty is still playing hockey? He makes a nice shelf ornament I guess. I love McCarty but enough is enough, time for life after hockey.... McCarty's Irish Pub and Casino.

Sorry, but I think Kopecky is a bum. I think he is a wasted roster spot, except for the fact that its been said that he had an influence on Hossa coming to Detroit... that would be his best quality.

    Lilja

I have never been a fan of Lilja for a number of reasons and have been a big promoter of getting rid of him but.... He's not won me over as a fan but I really should say that his play has come along and he really is playing well. That was hard for me to say but he is turning out to be a good keep this year for a 5 or 6 D-man. I hope he can keep it up and perhaps the future pairing of Lilja and Ericsson could be a possibility.

    Franzen vs. Cleary

Never drink with a Newfie! I learned that one the hard way... they must also have a bigger stronger liver then most regular Canadians.
  12. The Secret

    Franzen vs. Cleary

I'm not saying Franzen is a cream-puff by any means. I do believe that Franzen has alot more skills and tools to play with. I give Cleary the Heart, Grit and Work ethic tags because those are the keys to his success as he does not possess the skills of Franzen. Cleary was high draft pick and failed to meet the expectations initially put on him. He wasn't a player anyone really even wanted... to see him now, as successfull as he is to me shows where his heart is and says alot about his work ethic because he had to earn it not by skills alone but mainly on Heart, Grit and Work ethic.
  13. The Secret

    Lilja

No no, I am not anti-enforcer... I am anti-meathead though. I would not want us to attain a player thats only good for fighting and thats it. I'm all for a Lucic type that can crash, bang, fight and score not so much for a Laraque who is only there for intimidation and serves little other purpose. Btw, I don't see Lilja as an enforcer at all, not even close. I just see less of the brain farts that made me dislike him. His game has improved and thus I don't see him as a liability like I used to.
  14. The Secret

    Franzen vs. Cleary

Just my opinion. I can't think of a time I've seen Franzen lay down to block a shot, or go and muck in the corner's... well not like Cleary anyway. How often has Cleary played through some well-known injuries. I think he exudes Heart, grit and work ethic.
  15. The Secret

    Franzen vs. Cleary

Hahaha, good one. No I just watch the games and see Dan going to work each and every game. Johan on the other hand can take extended breaks. Look at Cleary's face man, bruised and battered... he's a warrior that just happens to also be Canadian.
  16. The Secret

    Franzen vs. Cleary

Skills, ability = Franzen Heart, grit, work ethic = Cleary Which is better? If I had to choose one I would likely take Franzen.

    Lilja

Hudler's looking great too, that I agree. Sammy, although he has played well, I still don't like and I wouldn't be sad to see him go. Filpula?! Has the potential but will he find it in Detroit with all the guys ahead of him in the pecking order? Maybe trading Filpula for a good power forward or a good draft pick that could be used for a future power forward. Filpula needs more time and a bigger role and might benefit from a move to a team that could utilize him better.

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

Hossa has been great and he has fit like a glove. They can't let this guy slip away. Hossa is a winner and I think he knows the Red Wings organization is too. I would hate to see Franzen go but given the chance to sign Hossa I think the choice is quite clear. You are right, Hudler has really come on this year and IMO Helm and Leino are ready and capable. Couldn't they trade Franzen before losing him? I guess no-one will trade for a guy who can hit the open market and risk losing him and what ever they traded for him if he doesn't stay.

    He never wanted to Leave

It does doesn't it... It says that I am happy to be heterosexual and that I will never crush over a man. You are very insightful. If you are ***... and its perfectly fine for you to be, I did not mean to offend you. So go ahead and crush on what ever man you want... enjoy!
  20. The Secret

    Hossa

I initially was impartial when we signed Hossa thinking it was a completely unnecessary signing. I have totally changed my mind after getting to watch him play every game. He is worth every penny and if given the choice of Hossa or Franzen I would have to sign Hossa. He really is awesome to watch every single game and he has fit in like he was tailor made for this team, system, and organization. If he signs I think i may be forced to get a Hossa Jersey.... he is that good.
  21. The Secret

    He never wanted to Leave

There will NEVER be the next Yzerman. Hank is awesome but no-where near Stevie in any way shape or form. What the F is a mancrush? Its sounds disgusting to me. He's an awesome player but I will never have a mancrush on any man....

    The goaltending deficit in Detroit

Stan Matwijiw was the goalie coach he sought to re-structure his game. I grew up living next door to Stan, cool guy and has done quite well for himself as a goalie coach. If this would help then let's bring Stan in to consult the situation for a bit... it sure as hell can't make Osgood play any worse then he has. s***, maybe Stan would even dust the pads off and hop in there to show 'em how its done.
  23. The Secret

    Gretzky

I second this. 99WG was insanely talented in all aspects, a genius on the ice really. Wasn't the fastest, didn't have the best shot but that guy saw everything from a different vantage point then the rest of the league. I don't see voicing your opinion as whining, especially when it was a terrible call that lead to your team losing a hard fought game.
  24. The Secret

    Gretzky

I agree with you here too. There were several poor penalties call on both teams but the last one cost Phoenix the game. Gretzky did what every coach would do in an emotional game like that, he felt the ref's needed to hear his opinion and he gave it to them. What would people rather him do? Stand there with a puzzled look on his face while stroking his mustache like Dave Lewis used to do.... see where that type of coaching got him. It was a weak penalty at a crucial point in a tight game that ultimately cost them 2 points.
