I don't. The guy makes me sick... to have all that ability and no desire is such a waste of everything (Ice time, roster spot, and yes...Money too). That money, whether its considered to be alot or not, would be better suited towards a player that gives a s*** and plays.

I was about to start a thread to say: 1. The team looks so much better without Franzen on the ice! 2. With Mrazek looking ready maybe Howard could land us some much needed assets? I love Howard, don't get me wrong but we can't make Mrazek wait until Howard done and we can't carry them both! Howie's stock would be really high right now and would certainly bring in some good rewards. Who cares about what they did with Franzen... pay him to be lazy and eat bags of dry stalks in the Press box rather than on the ice

2 Stanley Cups, 2 Olympic Golds, Never missed the playoff in Detroit, Somehow milked the team into the playoffs the last 2 seasons with an inconsistant and injury depleted roster and missing the best defenseman ever to play the game... No Babcock no playoff streak anymore!! Shall I go on? There are people and players you bargain hard with... and others you simply do not. Babcock in my opinion is one you do not. He it battle tested, tried and true... he has done nothing but lead and win EVERYWHERE he has coached... this resume doesn't grow on tree's. Not making Babcock happy and running with a green horn over a few million dollars is a massive failure IMO. Question Babs do and don'ts but see that there is always improvement and realize there is no one in the world with his pedigree!! Think about the number of Assistant Coaches under Babcock that have gone on to be quite successfull themselves and understand that is from apprenticing with the master! Maybe, MAYBE it's all smoke an mirrors right now and Holland really is about to unveil a master plan that would allow a team like Toronto (or who ever is desparate for a coach) to have exclusive rights to negotiate with Blashill (Knowing Babs will be signed and Holland can not be that stupid to let him get away) IN EXCHANGE for some deal for a player that we NEED (Top 4 D? Legit Power Forward? who knows) and would not be able to get otherwise. The growth in Detroit is visibly obvious over the last 2 seasons, some health and a piece or 2 and we did an on the fly reinvention and not a complete bust and suck and suck and suck and get better and get better and get better (maybe see Edmonton) Ya... so I think Holland is dumb right now and Babcock NEEDS to stay here... no I am not getting paid by Babs either but if he is in the market to adopt a 40 year old son that think he is god then < here I am! Waitng to be adopted!

I've tried to defend Holland as much as I possibly can but if I could i would kick him straight in the twig n' berries then make him like a piece of white dog poo. Why is he toying with this? 5 years at 5 million should be the easiest money he has ever spent and the best idea he has ever had.... if he screws up this and Babcock leaves for a measly few million dollars...has a Hossa'ish tinge to it. I used to dream of having Lucic in Detroit but he is nothing more than a bigger version of Sean Avery. He has no respect for the game, his colleagues nor the fans. I can't stand him since seeing him stick a helpless DK in the gooch last season. He is a 200+ lbs 2 year old baby except his tantrums will eventually serious injure someone. I first saw the animated gif of this last incident with him raising his arms to taunt the crowd and thought "whats the big deal". But when you see the full clip and makes the jack off gesture to the crowd first I think it is a big deal and he needs to have his shackles put back on and to be drug back to his cage at the zoo where these kinds of behaviours are expected. I get that its an emotional game and the fans in Montreal aren't the friendliest but there are kids watching for pete's sake. The guy is a tool and needs some punishment for his crap.

You'd better believe it

Babcock knows what healthy competition does... not only for the current roster players but for the young challengers! You can't dump a stay at home safe guy like Lash in hopes one of the young guns does a better job... that kid has to fight to take it and that vet has to fight to keep it. We will never have the dominance of days past, I believe our new championships will be the direct result of these competitions and will provide a balance of strength throughout the lineup...

No I am serious. I've been Wings fan for a very long time... through the Dead Wings era, to the Glory days to now. I've seen the massive difference a good coach makes when Bowman came in. I also saw what happened when Bowman's green eared understudy was handed the same exact team pretty much and rode it into the ground. Then Babcock coming in and doing what he has always done and that is squeeze the very best out of what he has and find ways to win. I believe without Babcock we are not still running this playoff streak. Think about the massive changes this team has undergone in the last 3 years due to retirements and a plague of injuries and inconsistent play. Babcock is not the reason for anything that seems to have been "underwhelming". What is underwhelming to us spoiled rotten Red Wing fans is a dream for many other teams. How many of the current top teams have spent their time not long ago in sucksville to pile up top drafts to then bubble to the top? We will not spend any time in the cellar like many teams do (these past fews season is the Hockeytown equivalent really... and we still made the playoffs). I truly believe this doesn't happen if it not for the world class leadership of Babs... You don't ever let a talent like him get away! He is happy here... the best owner, the best GM (not to say he doesnt make mistakes but he is the best), best treated employee's in ALL THE NHL!!!! That alone is worth staying, so will his new contract (I hope Babs is made the highest paid ever) he deserves it ansd so do we!

Another one of these ridiculous threads.... everytime Babcock farts there seems to be more speculation that he is not happy (even though he says he is) and he is going somewhere (probably Toronto because they are already planning their Stanley Cup Parade). The other hilarious thing is that folks believe that replacing a battle tested and proven winner/veteran/warrior/genius (Mr. B-cock) with a green eared but eager rookie (Blashill) is somehow going to ward off massive debilitating injuries to key players, improve goalie consistency, prevent hall of fame legends from ever retiring, strengthen backup goalie's groinal area, add testoterone back into the balls of mules AND be that which attracts every key free agent to want to sign up for all of this (deep breath) will undoubtedly improve things. Babcock + Holland + Health + Experience = Success wait and see

2 stanley cups + 2 olympic golds + most wins as a wings coach + somehow managed to get last years limp penoose of a team into the playoffs for the 23rd year in a row + proven at every level and in every way with every other team in the league watching for the slight chance Holland mucks things so they can swoop in to steal him away..... Give him his 5 Mill... make him the highest paid and be proud to have him. You never let a proven player like Hossa slip away like we did and you should never let a proven #1 coach slip away either. We aren't exactly the preferred destination of free agents at this point in time and if you subtract Babcock its even less of a draw. Babcock + Health = Success and more players wanting to come to the new budding Detroit Red Wings!
