This little clip made me like Clowe even more.

I don't particularly like the guy but I would gladly add him to our 4th line over either Maltby or Kopecky without hesitation!

Sorry, no screenshots here but I did see the pads during last nights broadcast and they were very cool looking pads! I hope we get to see him wear them for the classic.

Conklin has been playing quite well and I hope they ride him while he is playing well. Ride the better goalie and right now Conklin is the better goalie. IMO, neither is a great goalie and the coaches have to figure out how to get the best games out of both of them. Nogood has proven to play better when having to compete for playing time and that is what i would like to see happen for the rest of the season. no definative #1 title but the better goalie see's the ice time. And why do people on here keep hoping to see Howard come up? I don't get it! He is sucking in the minor league why would he magically do better in the big league where the game is bigger, stronger and faster? He has not lived up to what they expected and i would highly doubt he ever has a permanent spot on the team especially with the better young talent chasing him. I'm predicting we will see Larsson in as a regular before Howard.

Finally! ... and just in time

I agree with you. I think everything changes with a consistent 60 minute effort (by everyone) each night. If we can then get it to playing well for a 60 minutes each night then we can start dominating but I will setting for everyone putting in their time conistently for now and elevating from there.
-
I think the wake up call you are looking for has to come from within each individual player to challenge himself to be better then he is right now. That has to happen to everyone now rather then after getting hammered which may work to the opposite.

I would add a 3rd issue that seems to happen yearly in Detroit in that with such skill in our line up our guys tend to play too much ticky tacky hockey with everyone trying to be too fancy or do too much. Especially when we are down I think we need to change the game plan to an even more basic strategy and shoot the damn puck at the net and crash for some ugly garbage goals and forget trying to get onto the nights highlight reel. And I don't mean shoot the puck toward the net, I mean get pissed and lean into a shot and hit the damn goalie in the nugget to ensure a rebound and chance for an garbage goal. How many times do we see the guys make one too many plays that ultimately spoil a good opportunity, or opt to pass instead of letting a screamer go.

And they felt that he was so good and valuable to trade him away?! He's been a hot/cold goalie for his whole career... capable of showing #1 quality at times and even more capable of sucking and losing confidence for even longer periods of time. I think having Osgood as #1 hurts our Cup chances even more then sub-par defense.

Is it really a time for changing goalies and 4th liners?

I'm with you. Sure he plays his heart out every game but considering he can't play hockey at all it really doesn't do him much good. If he never set foot on the ice again we would never remember him nor would we miss him. -
Hey chrisdetroit, not sure who pissed in your cornflakes but it wasn't me. I never said that any of those players sucked so stop putting words in my mouth. Canadians play a different style of game then the guys you mentioned and adding that to our team would be a big plus. Try to find yourself a big burly swedish power forward to crash an bang and score and fight... its never going to happen, not because they suck but because they play a different style. The name of the thread was "What do the Wings need?" and I think my answer would be exactly what would fit the bill... who wouldn't want a Lucic or a Getzlaf added to this roster?

I would probably react the same way as when we got Chelios. I hated Chelios and at first it was a tough pill to swallow seeing him on our team, but I am super happy now that he plays for us and not against us. I don't hate Pronger like most on LGW, I'd love to see him in Detroit... but it would take some getting used to, actually cheering for and defending his cheapshots rather then receiveing them and bitching about them.

Some top notch Canadian talent!

This sounds like a good show for Sports Science. Anyone ever see Sports Science? They can prove who hits harder. I saw the show on hockey hits and open ice hits are by far harder then anything against the boards. In an open ice hit the energy transferred in the exchanged is absorbed mainly by the person receiving the hit where as in hits against the boards the energy is absorbed mostly by the boards. Very cool show if you ever get a chance to see it.

Conklin to start in Dallas; Chelios to debut on Sat

Although i have never felt Osgood to be a #1 goal tender he has proven that he can do what we need him to and I do believe that he can play better then he currently has. He really does seem to play his best when there is stiff competition with the other goalie. I thought last years tandem worked really well and maximized what each goalie had to offer. I hope that this years tandem can blend just as good and Having a #1A and #1B competition might just be the answer... no pressure on either to be labelled the #1 and a good comradery between the 2 could prove to be valuable as it did last year... Osgood and Hasek seemed to have fun together and spurred each other on. -

Seems the coaches lost confidence in Lebda earlier in the year too and he had to endure the same actions.... did him some some good too. The fact that the articles you are reading suggest the coaches have confidence that he will turn things around imply confidence that he can change his play but currently they do not have that confidence in how he is playing. -

Him being benched for 3 games, him letting in 3 + goals every game, Him being questioned about his play, Articles from the coaches stating that our goal tending blows, and My own personal view on the situation. -

Osgood has done better when he has had to work hard to prove himself. This is probably being done to get these guys competitive with each other. Neither has been brilliant but Osgood has lost everyone's confidence obviously. I think its a good move but the coaching staff... play well or sit and watch! -

I would have much rather had kept and played Quincey over either Lilja or Lebda. But I also don't think he would have been as productive seeing as he would have had much less ice time and a lessor role in Detroit. Quincey is thriving, having been trained in our system, with a more advanced role on a worse team. I'm happy to see him doing well, too bad it wasn't at home.

Granted, ask once and leave that subject alone. Especially since it's a sore spot for him.
-
I agree totally. Some people argue that he isn't paid to steal games and he is ONLY being paid $1.4 million so what we are getting is a bargain. I don't agree with that, sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. He should play his best despite how much or how little he is paid. Right now he is playing like crap, Period. Blaming the Defense for not being up to par does allow the goalie a freebie to not play well also. He should be questioned and he should be looking to doing something different to correct his deficiencies.
-
You are right on there... Datsyuk is learning how and when to step into some nice body checks. I think he has the best hits of the year so far.
-
Of course he is pissed off. He keeps on having to answer questions about what most seem to consider poor play. If he plays better the questioning stops but until then... welcome back to Detroit! This is not new to him and he should not be surprised. Perhaps he is pissed off because he knows all the questions and speculation is warranted given how he played in the play offs last year in comparison to how weak he is playing now.
