  3. I'm originally from Windsor, Ontario which is almost a sub-urb of Detroit... I could see the JLA from one of my apartment Windows. Anyway I moved from the area 3 years ago because it was tough to find work then. With this recession hitting and the big 3 automotive dying it's gotten steadily worse and does not seem to be slowing down. Michigan and Southern Ontario are hurting really bad because of this as we all know. I have heard rumours that if GM goes bankrupt that the Wings will likely be moved. Please excuse my ignorance here but is this at all possible or is it just people freaking out and speculating this? I don't know if could cheer for the Winged Wheel anywhere else... losing an original 6 team, any original 6 team would suck so bad I don't know what more to say. Can anyone shed any light on this?

There sure is a teacher and he is teaching me thing that I did not know before. I'm not asking him to teach me what I already know again. Good for Osgood for taking the initiative. I'm not knocking it at all. But it was sort of an admission from him that his play was not cutting it. ....maybe he should get some night classes right now!

Of course I do, all the time. I'm taking a certification class right now to add to what I already know. Thats why they practice, to improve themselves. Practicing is like doing your homework to keep yourself sharp and continue learning. Hiring a specialized goalie coach to help re-structure your game is like hiring a tutor because there is something your not getting and you need them to watch you and show you what your doing wrong and how to do it another way.

It was a quick google search that produced the results showing that Osgood had the same inconsistencies in 2002 that he is having right now is all. If the past is so irrelevant then then so in mentioning his play in last years play offs. And apparently the "what have you done for me lately" theory is also applying to the coaching staff and every other objective fan that doesn't wear rose coloured glasses. If his game has been so good and consistent throughout his career then why would he seek a goalie coach to help him re-structure his game despite all his great achievements? Did he think it would look good on his resume?

I just found it interesting the the first few headlines I did find we about letting in the first shot, losing the number one spot, inconsistent play.

"Isles' Osgood Missing Lots of Pucks and Starts By DAVE CALDWELL Islanders are staggering, and Chris Osgood cannot regain his spot as the team's top goaltender. November 7, 2002" "A Fast Start by the Flyers, an Early Night for Osgood By DAVE CALDWELL Chris Osgood gave up two goals on the first two shots he saw, then gave up goals on three straight shots before he left the game after the first period. October 27, 2002" "Islanders' Strong Offense Provides Lift for Osgood By CHARLIE NOBLES After a slow start this season, Chris Osgood might have needed a good game to maintain his status as the Islanders' top goalie. If so, he played just well enough. October 20, 2002" "Osgood and Islanders Fans Are Scratching Heads After Loss By DAVE CALDWELL Chris Osgood allowed two goals less than two minutes apart in the third period, and the Blackhawks extended their unbeaten streak over the Islanders to 10 games. December 11, 2002 " Just a quick google search and I found these results. They sound awfully familiar don't they.

To be a #1 goalie takes being a great goaltender consistently which he does not seem to be able to do. When he is on he's great, # 1 like. When he is off, he is God aweful. When he is off he not only loses his own confidence but that of his teams as well. Like he is doing right now. He will play better at some point but who knows when and for how long! Thats not going to give the rest of the team the confidence it needs either.

They brought Osgood back as a role player and he thrives at that. He plays his role as a competitive backup quite well and in that role he also has a way of getting the other goalies best game out of him as well. Great role guy! Why pick an unproven young guy like Howard or Macdonald as a backup over a known success at backup like Ozzie? Just curious, how many years has he played as a #1 and how many as a backup? How many other goalies were brought in while Ozzie was on the team? I think if you have a designated #1 you don't bring in any other goalies unless you don't have the confidence in your current goalie or you need a better option at backup. I disagree that a mediocre goalie could not achieve super star stats playing for arguably the best team in the sport for the last 15+ years. Osgood proven that, his best was all that was needed but he would not have the stats he has if he had followed Loungo's career path for example.

Not sure what your stepping in but I can guess what your sniffing. Why would a team trade a player that made them better? If he was that good and made them that much better he would still be there. He was brought back to Detroit as a backup and inherited the #1 spot by the #1 goalie retiring. He did play better then the #1 goalie in last years play offs and earned the #1 spot in the play offs. But as history as shown, he is now the #1 goalie and is not able to play consistently as a #1.

Every time he has played as a #1 goalie he has failed to play consistently at a high level that is expected of a #1 goalie, Every team he has played on he has failed to keep the teams confidence in him as a number 1 goalie. He's a great backup but a bust as a #1, he's just not that good.

He's already failed as a number 1 goalie here in the past, failed on the Islanders and also failed on St. Louis so it should be no surprise that he is failing here again. He's good for the team as a backup though and for what he adds to the lockerroom. He's always been a top notch back up and always been a second rate starter despite what his stats are.

I support doing something to spark him to play better, like let him sit on the bench for a while or something. He is currently 44 out 45 goalies in Save Percentage & 37 out of 45 in Goals Against Average. Alex Auld in Ottawa and Joey Macdonald on NYI are currently are posting better numbers on bottom dwelling teams.

    Wings D/Goaltending=trouble

Our Defense playing mediocre hockey is exposing our true weakness in having a Mediocre goalie in net. I have never felt Ozzie to be a great goalie ( I was happy the first time he left the team), a great backup maybe but not a great starter and we are seeing it now. Defend him if you want but the evidence is being televised every game while our defense is sub-par. Bench Ozzie and start Conklin for a while, let Ozzie catch a view from the bench and see if he can get motivate to play better and hope that Conklin can stay solid or I agree that we will be hurting come play off time.

I think the indefinate suspension was what they had to call it because they have never had to deal with something like this before.... not tthis extent and its uncharted territory I suppose. I think they gave the indef suspension until his meeting today and then will be handed a more appropriate punishment. Indefinate meaning unsure how long not indefinate meaning permanent. Physical acts in a physical game is a different story all together. They have to draw a line as to was is acceptable and what is not and they enforce it. The game has changed and so the rules will have to and the punishments as well.

Come on? Being targetted... do you really believe that? He has set this whole thing up himself and has absolutely no-one to blame but himself. Don't forget that Avery is a repeat offender and I highly doubt you would ever hear anything of the sort from a hockey player.. Malkin, Ovechkin, Crosby or Pronger. Not sure how people could really defend this guy? Especially hearing the players and coaches comments on him from around the league and everyone agreeing that his crap doesn't belong in the game... not the way he does it. Again, the worst part is he could be a good hockey player if he'd just play the game like above mentioned hockey players. He will justly get a few games suspension but the real damage is what he has done to outcast himself from his team. Why on earth would you work so hard to become a pro in a very hard game, get yourself a great money contract, only to let your mouth ruin it? Maybe he really wants to be thrown out of hockey to pursue a job as a fashion designer at Vogue? I bet this isn't publicity is not exactly what Vogue wants to be known for either.

There are many ways to generate interest and attention, some are in good taste some are in bad taste. Avery has made it his job to generate as much attention as possible by doing all the wrong things. I think this suspension goes deeper then the dumb comments he made on camera about his ex'gf. I think its his overall conduct on and off the ice that warrants his being suspended. Good he is trying to make things more interesting, bad are his choices in how to do it. Grapes, Shanahan and Hull are vocal in what they say and are interesting characters that generate interest but they know, more or less, where the line is and never crossed it like Avery. It's not just the league that is sick of him but by the sound of the comments from coaches and players on his team, they are also sick of the distractions he brings with him. Ray Emery is no longer in the league in part because of the distraction he brought to the team for his antics on and off the ice... no one wanted that on their team. Chemistry is needed for a team to bond and work together and having a guy like Avery who is disrespectful, flamboyantly stupid and always trying to generate press probably doesn't work toward team bonding. To further that thought the Stars are struggling this year and need him to produce interest by what he can do on the ice for them and not in the media by trying to be a clown.

    Filpula and Cleary's point totals

A good player will find ways to play well despite their current role, ice time etc. Although I have not been much of a Hudler fan he is quickly winning me over and I am starting to see his worth, perhaps he needs a second crack at the second line?! Filpula on the other hand show very brief flashes of what he may be capable of but IMO he is not at all a $3 Million player right now and is not making a good case for himself currently. I'd would debate on trading him this or next season as we have some good looking players in GR ready to get in.

Jawing at the guy on the ice you are battling with is one thing. Making public statements about a persons family, or significant other is a whole other game. If Avery didn't have a target on him yet this showing will likely make it open season for Avery hunting. And to say that about big Dion's chick? That guy wants to die. I can't wait to see that game after/if he is re-instated. Dirty Dion is going to pulverize him!

If only he could keep his stupid antics to out of the spotlight he could be a very valuable asset. Its his personality thats the cancer, not sure they have a cure for a bad personality yet. Did you read the article a few weeks back about the Kings current Captain and how Avery made fun of him in the dressing room surrounded by his team mates for having a spech impediment? Making fun of a persons handicap! Thats the type of locker room cancer I mean. Dancing in front of Brodeur, creating that type of diversion, not a good show on a team image. Sad thing is he does have ability to play he is just too much of a liability because of his mental disorder... or what ever is troubling him.

I don't find that funny at all... He is a cancer for the team he plays for and for the league. What an idiot, he's going to let his stupid mouth ruin his career. Good riddence!
