I've said it before..... It was his first season in North America, the most games he'd ever played in a season (remember he played in Switzerland before his first crack at the NHL), He came out on fire and hit a wall but rebounded in the playoffs. Thats a very successfull first season on my opinion... he was put through the ringer and worked his way through it. He's a hard working shoot first player that was able to have success in a few different roles. Looks like he will only get better. Sometimes you have to roll the dice and this is an instance where I would roll them for sure.... Unless he wants a ridiculously long contract. Brunner was the player that should have been signed not Alfredsson!

Agreed and I was hoping to get tougher but given a 40 year old soft euro for 1 year at the expense of a 27 year old soft euro for multiple years I'd have gone with Brunner. Would have loved to see what he could achieve in a full season plus he was a key piece on a dominant 3rd line... I LOVE that 3rd line!!!!!

Money should have been spent to get tougher or to resign Brunner

Why is Brunner not signed yet? 5 years at 2.5 - 3 million! Why let him see what other teams are willing to overspend on him? Why risk losing a piece we really need that fit right in from the start, likes the team and being in Detroit, is a great teammate?? I don't get it... I for one will be PISSED if he is not a Red Wing next season

I'm with Drake on this one... I'd rather see us trade up if we can and land ourselves a top flight forward that could hopefully come onto the big team right away and make an impact rather than a few extra lower seeded guys that will take a few years to develop

I saw the Leafs play the Sens when they were in town this year and Reimer looked like a good little goalie. I remember when the Leafs always seemed to have rock star goalie's that they piggy backed on and we used to pick them up after they had been shell shocked and fried... Poor Reimer and poor Bernier they'll have to compete for a spot on the Toronto Titanic

This has to be a joke, right? Tootoo is a very BIG little man and he fought and stuck up for his team mates more than any other player on the team. Not big enough to scare anyone? I don't know about that when the guy backs down from NO-ONE and he hold his own against guy much taller and heavier players. After reading this it is crystal clear you've watched all of ZERO Wings games last year. 5' 9" Tootoo plays a decent hockey game for a 4th liner AND took on some of the biggest meatheads in the league and held his own. I think Tootoo is a great role player, just enough of an enforcer and can play some hockey given a chance. Tootoo is a keeper... get rid of Emmerton, move either Miller or Eaves to centre and make Tootoo a permanent on the 4th line.

Consider it was his first year in the NHL on the big ice, with more travel and physical play and he successfully went through some personal adversity and came back strong in the play offs.... sounds like 3 million dollar keeper to me. I think he will only get better, and he was pretty good already. ...and he has a wicked nose!

I didn't think Hulder was worth it either but if someone (not Holland) is willing to over pay then he should go. I was not a fan of either Hudler or Filpula, and that is not to say they are bad players, but they can't ever give us what we need. Hudler is probably Calgary's best player right now, good for him. I'd rather let Filpula go to Calgary, or where ever, and get his 5 mill and I would rather we spend that money on a player like Clarkson or Bickell if we can. I just hate seeing him also leave for nothing instead of Holland trading him when he could for something... especially hearing the Bruins were interested.

Filpula is on glue of he really thinks he deserves 5 mill. Hossa gets 5.25 mill and Fil is not even in the same universe as Hoss. Any team that is willing to pay him 5 mill must be sniffing the same glue.. I'm hope Holland has kicked his glue habit

Very nicely put except for I am hoping we give our top notch euro scouting staff a break and start working our top notch Canadian scouting staff.... we need to get tougher

If this is true then what would Holland be thinking? Either we over-pay to keep Filp or he walks for nothing... makes no sense.

Brunner fan here. I think he will be back and he will be better. It was his first year in the NHL and he held his own... Ups, downs, Playoffs, Bigger ice, Bigger players. Not everyone can do as he did and add value.

I'm still sick that we lost the way we lost (We were up 3-1 for F sake) but I realize with 5 rookies in the lineup and in a year we are getting used to our life without Lids I am proud as well and am most impressed with our coach and how well he made this team work. I still agree with most that we need a big hard hitting goal scoring winger but I like our D as it is. If Smith works out some of those retarded mistakes and Dekeyser picks up where he left off our D top to bottom is looking pretty good... maybe they can take some hitting lessons and throw a few bone crushers enough to keet the other team thinking. Chicago wasnt worried about it... Not even 1 attempted Kronwalling. AND They MUST fix the GD Power Play... We are playing the Kings right now if our effing Power Play could score a few goals... just a few! I'm sick of the 0 shot on net PPs, trying to break the world record on how many passes can be made in a 2 minute span. Game 6 we were in Crawfords head, you could see it. We needed to be blasting shots at his pads and crashing for those huge rebounds. I liked how the CBC guys put it "Don't shoot to score, shoot to create" because he was looking shakey and was letting those rebounds out there

No way he worth anything near the rumoured 5 million he is asking. I'm fine with moving on without him but just to let him walk for nothing is dumb. He wasnt traded during the season, can negotiating rights be traded to someone so we can get soemthing in return?
