  1. I'm with you... I don't think any NHL or NFL team purposely TANKS anything. A whole organization intentionally tanking is like a whole organization all unanimously saying I suck and am completely incompetant so please fire me. No way that happens, I will never believe it. Who ever mentioned the Suck for Luck campaign obviously knows zero about the Colts and Manning. That entire team was built around Manning, who is not the second best QB in the league but THE best, and losing him was something like what we saw when we lost Lidstrom. NO ONE in the league could have jumped in to fill in for Manning NO ONE. There was no one capable of doing what Manning does. That Colts team also was dealing with alot of other injuries as well... they didn't suck for Luck they just plain sucked! Just like no one in the NHL could ever step in for Lidstrom and losing him devastated our team more then we will ever know.
  2. Although I have not liked some of Hollands moves or non-moves over the years, some I can never ever let go of (Hossa), I think the track record over all speaks for itself. He is a pioneer IMO. Its been said numerous times before but we are frikkin spoiled. Completely spoiled rotten! We are lucky to have Holland, we are lucky to have Babcock, Extremely lucky to be owned by the Illitches, and we are lucky to have seen 23 straight years of playoffs (no matter how crappy the last few have been). There are plenty of team out there that would be thrilled to see their team make the post season and be BBQ'd in the first round just to see their team in a meaningful game. NONE of this happens without Holland! This team has lost some big time players in the past few years whose impact could never be measured in advance, we've lost how many man games to injuries?, Had how many rookie's? AND had quite a few crap roster moves/non-moves and yet 23 years and counting, a stocked cupboard of young talent and an extremely bright future that will NOT take us blowing balls at the bottom of the league for 5 years before we can start to bubble back to the top!!!! Holland is in uncharted waters and we will see how stealthy he is. Next up is to lock down Babs and DK, and he will locked them both for a good amount of time and watch as we begin to mature and compete again wityhout having to eat crap at the bottom for a while! Thanks Kenny! Fans need to realize that the days of Red WIngs sailing through to championships is long over and the next generation of Cup Champions in Detroit will be honed from within, won't dominate as before but will cut more evenly with 4 lines.

Dekeyser signed. 2 yrs $2.187 million AAV

I bet you are spot on here and I hope Holland tries to haggle with DK but he can not afford to let this kids get away. I think 5 years at 4 mill would be a steal for DK. He made an impact immediately (fresh out college) and has continued growing... even started adding some points.

    Red Wings Target Mike Green

I hope you are right! Used to drive me nuts to see how often Filp got man handled, and usually when we needed him most. Though Tatar also has all the same skills you've outlined above for Jurco minus the big body... but he makes up for it with his feistiness and has proven ability to scored some wicked goals. Also, I'm probably not onboard for trading either of them for Green. Green could end up being another Carlo Colaiacovo! I really liked Carlo's game but he spent more time on the shelf hanging out with glassman and his pal useless vagine

    Red Wings Target Mike Green

I think Tatar is already more valuable the Hudler ever was... Tatar is what we wanted Hulder to be rather. And while we are doing comparisons I have a strong gut feeling (and I hope I am really wrong) that Jurco is going to be Filppula Junior.... shows "flashes of greatness" and never reaching his "potential", always on the verge of a "breakout season" but never really earning the money that has been spent to keep him, waiting for the day he "steps up" and "maximizes his chances"

Anaheim not bringing back Hiller, Koivu, and Winnik

The Monster played well for us no doubt but he is the most injury prone as I have seen... I would have rather we signed Hiller as a backup over Monster if that was an option. Its not a matter of if his defective groin will break but when and how many times.

Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

What a load of garbage... how did the results give ANYONE a clear look at where this team is at? In order to clearly assess where this team is shouldnt you have a look at what it can do when healthy? We had so much turn over, inexperience and injuries that past 2 years that we have zero indication at what this team can do. We have definite needs for improvement but we have no gage at all at what we can do if healthy. Add now some much valued experience to our youth (who carried us into the play offs), the elimination of dead weight and some health and we have a team that can compete with the best immediately. It won't steam roll to the finish like in tha past but it can run with the pack and compete to win
  14. The Secret

Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

We are not that far away at all IMO. 2 years ago we limped into the playoffs and gave the eventual Stanley Cup Champs the biggest challenge they had despite the most adversity our team has seen in decades. We need a piece or 2 plus health to go along with the experience that our youth have gotten and we are back in business.... we may never have the run away team like we have had in the past but we are not the Edmonton Oilers... we have one of the best GMs in the league, THE best coach and one of the best farm systems.

Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins

Iggy is potentially available at what should be a reasonable cost and can still give us all the qualities we need: Canadian, hits, fights, scores, one timer, Canadian, leadership, hunger to win, grit

    Dan Cleary may return...sigh

Cleary has been a good Red Wing until last year. I agree with Nightfall that if he is signed to a cheapish 2 way contract it can't hurt anything and will at least provide the Griffins with a strong experienced Vet to help the kids along. When Cleary hangs them up he will be the next ex-player hired within the organization.

Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

By everything Babcock has been saying it seems to me he is happy with the team, management, ownership and location leaving Holland without the stress of having to nail down an extension with Babcock and allowing him to focus on what is the truely important points of focus.... Sign our Free Agents and get the missing pieces on defense and at forward to give Babcock the tools he needs to take the team deep into the play offs. Babcock cannot provide health, he cannot provide a PP quarterback or a right handed shot from the point, he cannot be a consistent goal scorer nor can he be a second line center!! These are the most important points of focus for the team, the coach and the fans.

Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock on Hockey Night in Canada “When you’ve been in a place nine years like I have, going into my 10th year, it becomes a mutual thing. You want to be someplace where they want you. If they don’t want you, you move on. I’m going to coach in the league for a long time yet, there’s going to be opportunities for me. I like what we’ve done in Detroit; we’ve rebuilt on the fly…I think we have a chance to be better next year and better in the future. So, I tell people all the time: I’ve got a good place to hunt, I’ve got a good place to water ski, my family’s happy, my youngest girl is finishing school next year so I’m free that way. But there’s no reason to move if you don’t have to move or if it doesn’t excite you to. I’ve always been a believer that the grass is greener right here at home as long as you fertilize and water.” He is not going anywhere! No more Babcock leaving or being fired threads needed. Let the league of idiots have their fun dreaming but that is about all they will get. Babs is home here in Detroit! We did not have to have a long rebuilding process due to our scouting and farm system. Even this past year we could have completed as much as any had we been healthy enough. We add health, more experienced youth, less dead weight and another piece or 2 and we are right back in the thick with a very long bright future to go along with the rich history, best owner and a very good GM (even though I don't like all his moves, or lack of moves).

    Should we pursue Iggy?

Iggy is a UFA and I am sure Boston will try hard to resign him but I think we should take a run at signing him for a few years. He is older but coming off his 12th 30+ goal season, provides veteran leadership for younger players and will add an element of toughness we desperately need? I've been wanting Iginla in a Red Wing for ever and now is a good a chance as any. He'd bring alot of what we need including being a Right Handed shot

    Should we pursue Iggy?

A D-Bag? I've never heard anyone ever say that about Iggy. If he is too slow for our team then that is one thing but the guy is not a D-Bag. He is a proven 30+ goal scorer even on a s*** team like Calgary. Anyone remember the blazing speed Brett Hull provided us? Iggy is alot faster then Hull and is a much more well rounded player and would give a right handed one timer again... plus all the rest he provides. I'm not at all suggesting we pay him a Kings salary but if he could be enticed for a decent price he would easy provide what we signed Bertuzzi, Cleary, Samuelsson and Alfie for! We already have a massive youth movement going on I don't think more of a youth movement helps us at all. I was against the Alfie signing but he provided more then I would have ever imagined on and off the ice and that is the same that Iggy would do for the current youth on the team IMO

    Should we pursue Iggy?

We'd have a great one timer on the wing again! Man this makes more and more sense to me.

Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

Likely because it is not an important decision for any of them at this moment. Babcock has spelled it out pretty clearly: 1. If they are happy (which I would bet they are) then he is happy. 2. If he is happy then he is perfectly comfortable with the ownership and the management and the direction the team is heading. 3. If they are not happy, he will not be happy but he is also not worried because he would have another job within minute of that information becoming public. 4. Scotty Bowman went year to year. Someone else also pointed out that if you are worried about your future you lock down the longest fattest deal you can as fast as you can. Babcock has way too much of a pedigree ( and a winning pedigree.. most winning pedigree in Detroit history if I am not mistaken) to sweat that kind of stuff PS. Yes I know I am a Babock homer! Rightfully so. We don't want another "don't know what you got till it's gone" song to play out.... I'm looking at you mouthless David Lewis
  24. The Secret

    Spezza?

To me it would depend in the cost. He'd be a good Red Wing I think
  25. The Secret

Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

The guy has been dealing with enough injuries and expired players the past few seasons that even if they didn't make the play offs he still really could not have been to blame. Babcock is a wizard and has proven that many times over... if Babs decides to move it will be a sad sad day in Detroit. As sad of a day as when Scotty retired. Give Babs a healthy team (even this past years team) and we are as dangerous as the next.
