I realize that many people on this forum weren't born yet when the Red Wings were a bad team. There's a great deal of pride in the accomplishments of one's team, especially when it is improvement over the recent past. After a number of good years, one tends to take it in stride and expect that the prior results will continue, whereas teams with a history of falling short will show their excitement over small achievements. And so, in many ways, the Wings fans of today are like adults who are so busy striving for the Big Prize that we fail to stop and appreciate the lesser accomplishments that we achieve on our way to the Big Prize. And the Blues fans are like children who still announce to the entire household, "I made poopoo in the potty!"

Minnesota fans are great. I've had wonderful experiences there. I think if your kids are 11 and 12 they should be able to handle what they'll hear at the game. Not long ago, we were this high on Ericsson, insisting that he be brought up because he played so well. I agree that we have a gem in Smith, and I hope to see him up with us. I just hope we don't expect too much like we did with E so that even if he's just average at first it seems like a bigger disappointment than it would have been otherwise. If an unheralded d-man played like E, we'd be ok with it. E's unrealized potential and his contract make him seem worse than he is. I'm still not sold on Kindl. I don't know why, but he does not inspire my confidence.
