Sorry to hear that, Scott. I am guessing that you have no say about how or when the carpet will be removed. Aside from products that are made for that sort of thing, the only things I can think of are baking soda (if the carpet is dry but still smells- let it sit overnight and then vacuum) or vinegar (if it's still wet, use a wetvac to get it up). I got my mom and sister roses for Valentine's Day. (They live together, so it was only one vase.) People who have a significant other should be able to celebrate VD if they so choose without having to listen to all of us single people whining about how VD is only for couples. It's about love. Deal with it. Not every holiday has to pertain to everyone. I don't make plans for Tet, Purim, Dia de los Muertos or a host of other things that aren't in my culture/religion/lifestyle. If it pertains to you or interests you, go celebrate. If not, step back and let others enjoy it.
