After reading the whole article, it doesn't sound un-Ozzie-like to me. He wants to play, but he also wants what's best for the team. He gives kudos to Howard, but says that he's ready to go. That's the Ozzie I know and love. I'm also loving Howard.

One thing that I HATE with a passion is how guys will pile on the offender whilst the victim is lying at their feet on the ice. Let the offender skate a little bit away from the injured party, and THEN nail his sorry rump. As far as the hit, that elbow to the head looked suspension-worthy to me on my first view, but slowing it down, almost frame-by-frame, it looks more like it was an elbow to the helmet (which by that time was an empty helmet as it had left Kopitar's head). It's hard to tell if it was his elbow that knocked the helmet off, or if it was the impact with the boards. I know there are other factors to this hit, but for this moment, I'm fixated on the helmet. I will admit bias since Kopitar is one of my fave non-Wings, and Phluffy-boy is one that I can't stand.

I was just reading an article that was written before the team was announced. The author speculated that Vancouver players might have a slight "home ice" advantage. Any thoughts on that? Do you think that it might have been a factor in Sammy's reaction? Either that he was expecting to be chosen because of this, or because he wanted it more than usual because it was at home?

Take two: less sarcasm since I'm replying to someone I like. I can't comment on the Janik fight as I didn't see the part right before it, but the May fight was coming for some time. After Boll's roughing up of Dats, May was prevented from taking him on at that time by the linesmen. IIRC, both Boll and Dats got 2 minutes each. Had May gotten in there they may have also given him 2 for roughing, putting us on the bad end of a 4-3. Afterwards, May invited Boll to go, but Boll declined. I honestly don't remember if that was during the play or not. Once Boll rocked Raffy, it became clear that he was headhunting Red Wings. Once this became clear, it behooved May to do his duty and let Boll know that this would not be tolerated. After the fight, Boll did behave himself. May had to act in a timely manner due to Boll being a potential threat to the health and safety of the Wings. That is May's job. Given that Boll had refused to go earlier, May had to get him when he could, whether it was during the play or not. As the old saying goes: When ya gotta go, ya gotta go.

Koko is on the roster because "Tomas Kopecky" is easier to type than "any Slovakian male under the age of 80 without serious physical handicap". It's shorthand.

True. He got us a point last night, but a goalie can only bring a tie. The scoring is up to the skaters (barring rare Ozzie-like moments, but even Ozzie can't be expected to pull that off on a regular basis). I see games like last night as a training ground for the future. They raise his confidence, and the confidence that the team has in him. I expressed a great deal of doubt about him at the beginning of the season, but I now have great hope for the future. He has won me over.

If Helm had hands, experience, and facial hair, he would be Zata. Ok, I exaggerate, but he does have a lot going for him, and I love his work ethic.

May, Janik, and even Boll, to a lesser degree, went up a notch in my book. Boll can still go put his sausage in his own oven, but I have to give props for his resiliance. May is a great asset. He can handle the puck and is defensively responsible. I would like to see him kept up as an extra once the injured are back. Put him in games where we may need him. Janik has been good as well. Certainly over Meech or Lebda, although I'd rather see Lebda gone for picks, pucks, or packs of pricks with pucks. I don't care at this point. Once we get our offense back (speaking here of offensively-minded d-men as well), we will get goals. We have the makings of a good defense for once. Howard has earned my approval, despite my initial reservations. Enforcers are all that was missing. People talk about wanting wins. I don't think any of us here don't want a win. We CAN have it all, and the pieces are either here or coming back soon.
