We've got 2 Conn Smythe winners, a goalie who stays cool under playoff pressure, and a fantastic coach. Add to that the King of Crunch, a forward who broke a Gordie Howe record, and a fine workhorse in the person of Danny Cleary and you've got a solid foundation to build on with a lot of hope for the future. And if Lilja returns, it will only be sweeter. They'll have plenty of positive things to talk about. Whether or not they will choose to do so is another story. Give yourself a great big hug and cheer up! The future looks bright for the Wings.

That's a wonderful idea, but I'll warn you of a problem I ran into when naming my hamsters: some of the Wings have the same name, but different spellings. You can't use the name once and say it's after both, nor can you just skip one. Might I suggest you narrow it down to a half-dozen or so of your favourites? When I named the hamster I got about 3 or 4 years ago, I decided that I would name after the next player to score a goal with the middle names being those who got the assists, followed by the rest of the players on the ice. Unfortunately, Nik and Nick were both on the ice, and Niklas Nicklas is a stupid name. I gave it to Nick since he is the captain. The hamster ended up with the name Henrik Pavel Tomas Nicklas Dominik. With the hamster I have now, I asked my Godson to pick numbers between 1 and 100 and matched the nearest player number. I kept asking for numbers until the name sounded complete. My new love is Niklas Matthieu Daniel Robert. He's a huge Cleary fan for some reason. Best wishes, and let us know what you decide.

Shanny needs to retire and replace Bettman. Aside from the highly valid points above (which have my total agreement), Shanny getting another Cup wouldn't be as dramatic as Drake getting a Cup. Heck, all of the guys who have already won it want another Cup, regardless of where they are playing.

Grier is a good bet for a one-year deal. After that we have a bit more cap space opening up, and we will be losing Maltby. If Grier can prove in his one year that he can take over what Malts used to bring before he got older, then we keep him. This is assuming that we can sign Grier for a reasonably cheap price. If he's not in our range, all of this is pure speculation. What I like about Grier is that he and Malts both really bring it in the playoffs. The 2 together putting it on the line would be killer, even if they're past their primes. Grier playing for a Cup and Malts on his last year, probably headed for retirement, would be highly motivated.

Yes! Grier was #1 on my list of "guys I hope we get". I'm not getting my hopes up because of the salary cap and what he'll probably command, but it's nice to know that he's interested and always lovely to hear people speak highly of the Wings.

As far as replacing Hudler goes, I don't think we really will replace him.
