Hudler and Cleary have very different talents and strengths. It is not a matter of who is better or more experienced, but rather it is a matter of who is the better fit with particular linemates. The same statement could be made putting Leino's name in for that of Hudler or Cleary. However, if you put Franzen's name in that sentence, in comparison to Cleary, then you get a more notable similarity than difference. Since their role is similar, they are redundant. I did go back and re-read both your post and the post to which you were referring. Thank you for clearing up the matter of Cleary being one of your favourite players. It now makes it much more fathomable that you would go all "make words bigger and put lots of funny faces" on us, not to mention the excessive ellipses in places where there is no need for punctuation whilst running right through places where punctuation would be so very handy. Using the internet equivalents of shouting, dramatics, and hyperventilation is a perfectly normal reaction for a woman defending one of her favourites. No Valium is needed.

That's right. We could (technically) move Datsyuk to the AHL and he wouldn't count against the cap. He'd have to clear waivers, which wouldn't happen unless all 29 other GM's were hit by the Stupid Truck, but according to the rules, he wouldn't count. Kris Draper, on the other hand, would count. Cleary is a hard-worker who is becoming Holmstromesque in front of the net. He is one of the few players on this team who can hold his own and add significantly to any line in a variety of roles. Cleary on the first line is no more preposterous than Cleary on the third line. However, as stated by others, he pretty much duplicates Franzen as far as net presence. If Homer's lagging last season was primarily due to his injuries, then I would move Cleary to the first line with Z&D. Otherwise, Cleary is a most capable third liner who adds a scoring threat to that line. Considering that, in my line-up, we have Z&D on the first line and Mule on the second, having Cleary on the third makes that third line a scoring threat as well as adding defensive responsibility. There is nothing insane about it. Cleary is that versatile. Ask your doctor if Valium is right for you.

Osgood would start if he was back, healthy, and winning. If Howard had a great time when Oz was out, this would be good for the team going into the post-season because it's always comfortable to have confidence in your back-up. This is, of course, assuming that Stan Bowman doesn't come to Detroit for a visit the night before the trade deadline, slip Kenny a mickey, and sign a trade of Osgood/Howard/McCollum/Zetterberg for Kopecky/Huet/Campbell, in which case Lilja would be the extra d-man and would fill in as goalie. I think he would acquit himself admirably.
