    Claude "Turtle" Lemieux retires

Good idea. He's a shell of the player turtle he once was.

Holland confirms that Hudler will play in KHL

Maybe he misses the rest of the Czechs/Slovaks. He's the last one on the team. Lang, Dom, Hossa, Koko... even Val has a new Finn to talk to. That said, I hope if this is true (which I doubt), that he will find happiness there. He's a good guy.

Got home, took a shower, cleaned the hamster cage, and came online. Close enough? The person below me gets a sore throat if they go to bed with wet hair.

    Next Seasons start in Sweden

If the trip to Sweden didn't keep Sammy here, I don't think it will keep others away. From what I understand, our season starts earlier, but our training camp and pre-season are shorter. This is just what I've heard. If anyone can confirm or refute, please chip in.

    Joe Sakic announces his retirement

Enjoy the retirement you've earned, Joe. Your name will forever be spoken with reverence. We should all pound 19 shots of something in his honour.

    Chris Osgood message board poster?

You'd think some night on a long road trip, they'd be drunk and bored and come on here with new accounts like "Nik Lindstrom" "Brad Stewart" "Kurt Maltby" or something and try to convince us that they were really them, and then laugh at us as we shot them down. You know, it's kind of funny how easy it would be to fake. I could go on and say that I live next door to, say, Lilja in Sweden over the summer. I know from the internet that he built his own house, and he has a wife and 2 little girls. I could fabricate a story using that information, then accuse him of being rude to his neighbours in the white house on the other side of him. Then I could create a second account, "Paintrain713" and refute what I had said in my OP. I could say that my neighbours were Inga and Bjorn Pahlsson, and their children were Bjarne and Kjirsten and that they seemed like nice people, but I didn't know them well. Having thrown out actual names looks realistic, but only the actual neighbours would know if they were fake. No one else on the message board would have a clue. Not saying this is what happened, just saying it would be easy to do. Until someone spotted the glaring error.

Nope. I stay totally indoors as much as possible in the summer. If I go out, I burn like bacon. The person below me has found their house online and found that the picture is actually a couple of houses off.

    Avs trade Smyth to Kings

I'm still stuck on someone calling Smyth a "pretty boy". Ok, now that I'm over that, NOOOOOOOO! Not Quincey! Not on the Avs! AAAAAARGH! Colorado just got better, and the Kings really blew that one. Too bad. I like the Kings and I liked having Quincey there where I could still root for him. Pretty boy? Smyth? Ew.

    Mikael Samuelsson signs with Vancouver

From what I read on the Nucks site, they plan on having Sammy on the second line as a complementary scoring threat to the Sedins. Edit: Now I've read that they are keeping options open, but he will be top 6.

Not in over 5 years. I chaperoned a very nice group of kids to the Twin Cities and took in a Twins game. My first professional sporting event ever, and I don't like baseball. The person below me thinks the person above me has a cool sig.

Yeah, it was nice to only lose players who chose to retire. It's tougher to see them move on to another team. The person below me hopes Andreas will be back and in good health by fall.

It might be a stretch but...

Homer and Malts will likely be done, but Drapes has another year left after that. He will not retire before that because he was over 35 when he signed, so he counts against the cap whether he is playing, bought out, retires, gets sent down....whatever. It would be foolish to empty an extra space since we are paying for him. Even if he is the guy in the press box awaiting injury replacement, we will still have him. As far as Kane goes, I do like him. I don't see him coming here. Tallon said that they have thought about how to sign their big 3 (Kane, Toewes, Keith) and that they will be able to. I am laughing at him, but usually when I laugh at people, they find a way to prove me wrong, so he may well have something up his sleeve.

    boo hossa?

From what I understand, once the Zetterberg deal was done, Holland started talking to Hoss and Mule. Although there were some preliminary talks with Z and Mule from the start of the season, he couldn't talk to Hossa until after Jan 1 due to Hossa having a 1-year contract. Once Z was signed, it came down to whichever of Hossa or Mule would sign first. The other would have to wait until after the season was over and the cap was set due to the tagging rule. (Ask egroen or Drake_Marcus or NFM25 about that stuff. They rule at that sort of explaining.) Anyway, as to your question about hometown discounts, I agree that if we'd signed Hossa first, that Mule would have been more likely to go for the hometown discount. On the flip side of the coin, the same desire to stay in Detroit is likely what caused him to make sure he was signed first. He may well have figured what he could get on the open market and decided that what the Wings were offering was a discount that he was comfortable with in exchange for being the one that was sure to be signed. I think two things come into play here. 1) Hossa has spent much less time in Detroit. 2) Hossa was set to get more on the open market. That and we have a lot of Swedes I don't blame Johan for wanting to stay more. I don't blame Hossa for seeing what he could get. In a way, I almost feel sorry for Hossa. He could have gotten a lot more in the long run had he just skipped the whole Detroit deal. Although, Tallon did say (in a tv interview on the Hawks site) that Hossa wanted the year in Detroit to learn from the best, and both Hossa and Tallon feel that he did. Nice compliment.

    Martin Havlat Twitter/ Sun-Times Article

I wasn't saying they should do it, or that they would do it, I was only answering the question of whether or not they could do it. Unless he has a no-movement clause, it is possible. It's not the best choice, but it is out there if they are totally backed into a corner. There are a lot of things they should try first.
