Wings good at trading away duds

Yeah, Draper was probably the best dollar this team has traded for. Sad about the dollar... it could have been something with the exchange rate what it was. Could have settled down with a nice loonie, produced some interest, ended up in a nice pension... but no, there was that incident with a two-bit hooker that ended it all in scandal. When last seen, it was in Minot, ND being stuffed in a stripper's G-string. Sad, indeed. Meanwhile, Draper settled down in Detroit, met a nice girl, had cute kids, won a Selke and 4 cups, wears the A, is a top faceoff guy, and grows a pretty nice playoff beard. Life is just not fair.

John Tortorella suspended 1 game for game 5 antics

Interesting that (according to nhl.com) they had just issued a memo last Sept. specifically stating that squirting water on fans was no longer allowable. Maybe old habits die hard. They should hire fan-goons. Give us free tickets behind the bench, and we'll "take care" of any trouble with other fans. I'd do it. I'd get my butt kicked, but I'd do it.

Would you want Crosby on the Wings?

You're absolutely right about Z. I had just been reading something about Stevie (what it was or where it was, I don't know- I'm middle aged and have CRS) and how he had influenced younger players after Bowman had turned him into a 2-way player. I put that in with what I was typing and it came out Z. Now I wish I could remember who they were talking about specifically. At any rate, it's becoming something that is expected in Detroit, and Hank and Pavel do it as well as anyone else in the league. Your point about Swedes is well-taken. Perhaps that's why we go for so many of them- they're well-rounded players.

Wings good at trading away duds

I think he meant fan animal and misspelled it. Maybe typing too fast. At least, that's how I read it anyway. I never thought of phenomenal. Now that you mention it, phenomenal does describe his play that night. Whichever... I'm still kind of holding my breath on Joey. In a way, I liked him, but at the same time I was never quite comfortable with him. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title of this thread was that the Wings traded away Ted Lindsay. Of course, that had nothing to do with how well he played.

Would you want Crosby on the Wings?

The question was "Crosby or Hossa", so I'd have to guess Kopecky's. It's really a tough call. For the same price, I'd almost be tempted to go with Crosby for his offensive skill, but Hossa has shown that he can fit in with this team, work hard every night, and get the job done. It's a known (Hossa) vs an unknown (Crosby) as far as how he would fit in. We know Hossa does. If Sid would fit in as well as Hossa does, I'd go with Sid. If Sid could move to a wing, that would be a point in his favour. I think Sid's attitude would improve and he would mature greatly with role models like Lids and Hank and Pav around him. I don't think that we would be seeing the whining poster-boy because he would not be wearing a letter, and so would not be in a position to be whining on the ice to the refs. No matter where he plays, I think this will come to him with time and experience anyway. He could also learn the 2-way game from Dats and Z here. It took time for even the great Yzerman to buy into that, and he passed that on to our Selke boys. I think that with the veteran leadership the Wings would provide, Crosby would have a greater future here than he will on a team like the Pens where he is the leadership. He has a lot going for him. So does Hossa. Over all, I'd give Crosby the edge for the potential I feel he could reach with the Wings organization. I like Hossa better, but that and a buck will buy you a generic soda. As you can tell, I'm vascilating on this. Good thing it's not my call to make.

    OZZY's STATUS?

He chipped a nail and was concerned that it would rip, but his manicurist got it taken care of during the intermission. Seriously, it is frustrating to not know what is up with the players, but I totally understand why they guard that information. It is interesting to watch a rerun of a game and know what a player was battling in hindsight. It gives you an all-new respect for what they go through. It's a good thing we took this in 4. Rest and emory boards will do wonders for the next round. Be well, Ozzie. We need you!

    The person below me game...

I'm loving it: Kristi's mom got good news, the Wings swept, I have a chiro appt today and will be able to bend again, I can read Latin and sometimes understand what it says, and there's good clean humour in the world (although some of the other kind is funny too). All in all, yes, I'm loving it. The person below me would go to Dr. Rahmani just because of the commercial if they were in the area and in need of eye services.

    Ladies alternative to playoff beard

I ran into that problem for the last week of the playoffs. I cut them, secured the ends with duct tape, and then put them back on after work. It was technically against the rules, but when you have to scrub for a sterile environment, you have to do it. I was interning at the time. If I get a job this year during the playoffs, that is what I will do again. I'm sure you could come up with something more classy than duct tape- perhaps tying them to a bracelet link at each end and using an old clasp? About other bead users: My bad. I was thinking of just letters, rather than other beads, but I'm glad that others are personalizing the bracelets. It adds to the fun. Letters, numbers, crystals, petrified octopus matter- it's all good! What a game to finish the series! As I mentioned before, I add hearts after we clinch a round. This last bracelet has so many beads! They usually mix around, overlapping each other, but I got them lined up for a photo: Keep up the good work, folks.

Kesler and Burrows talking trash about Backes' wife

Once again, "time and place". I'm sure if the guys met Ms. Backes on the street, they'd be quite cordial. On the ice is another story. Some people like it; some don't. This particular conversation was not intended for our ears. It was on-ice banter. Banter with a purpose. If a guy gets off his game, he is eliminated from the play until he gets his wits about him. That one or two seconds might allow for a puck to be stolen, or a shot or pass to be made. Think of it as a verbal check. What gets under people's skins? Religion. Politics. Race. Family. There's no time to have a great religious or political discussion on the ice. "Hey, Tootoo, transubstantiation is erroneous doctrine" is not going to cause him to stop what he's doing, although it might confuse him. "Pronger supports economic sanctions against North Korea" is equally stupid. Race is too general. If you drag down an individual because of his race, you drag down the whole race, including your fans of that race. Big no-no. That pretty much leaves family. It's a sure-fire way to get someone. By the time they reach the pros, they've probably heard it all. They know what's coming, and how they're supposed to ignore it. If they don't, they lose. I've never played hockey, but I hear it at work. Again, time and place. It is reserved for non-work related chatter amongst like-minded people. You do it when and where it is appropriate, and around people who are expecting it. Sometimes it's a riot.

Columbus Columnist: Osgood is Wings' Weak Link

Strongest link: Offense. 2nd strongest: Defense. 3rd strongest: Goaltending. Weakest: Beer prices. (If beer were cheaper, the fans would drink more and yell louder, thus inspiring the team even more.) Now if you want to eliminate the last, Ozzie is the weakest link, but I have about 39475 other things I can throw in between Ozzie and ticket prices. I just won't bore you with them. If you think I'm bashing Ozzie, consider that I would put Karen Newman's cleavage as a weaker link than Ozzie, and we all know how popular that is. Ozzie's been great. As an Ozzie fan, I'm loving it.

WCQF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 1

Working again, but I know you'll all be cheering enough for me. (May 6th I get cable! NBC! And high speed internet so I can stream the games that aren't on NBC! WOOOOOT!!!!!!) Anyway... Wings win 3456-2. Leading after the first period 1245-0, Babs decides tells the team to only play defense. The rest of the goals go in off of BJ's skates. The 2 Columbus goals are scored on the Jackets' 13th and 15th 5-on-3 PP. Hitchcock complains we cheated. LGW fans complain that their beer is too cold.

is J. Ericsson here to stay in the defense?

Unfortunately, I think you are correct that he is done. I don't see him signing with the Wings, and I'm not sure who will take him otherwise. I still stand by what I said; I just don't think that it will come to fruition. As far as being delusional: I can't speak for everyone, but as a Lions fan, I have to agree with you about me!

Nope, follower of a monotheistic religion means devotion to one Supreme Being only, although in my case, a triune one. The person below me has been to a circus lately.

is J. Ericsson here to stay in the defense?

I agree with this, although I won't comment on how many ways Big E provides the Big O. Cheli is still responsible defensively. I consider Meech and Lebda as the 2 most tradeable Wings. If Stuie won't waive his NTC, which will depend entirely on who is looking at him, these 2 can be traded for pics/prospects. Their salary is minimal, so they don't provide the cap relief that Stuart would, but it clears up roster space for Ericsson and another relief forward (I'm thinking about Downey here, but it could be anyone who is up-and-coming in GR as well) at roughly about the same cap hit. As far as E goes, I hope to see him in the Winged Wheel for a very, very long time.
