Winner!

I have never been a counselor at camp, but I do have a digital alarm clock. I am also curious about what is so special about May 1st. The person below me has picked up seashells on the beach.

The four remaining games are against Buf, Nas, and 2 against Chi. He needs 5 points. I think that he could do that in the games against Chicago alone. He will likely get in on some action against Buffalo, so I'll pencil him in for 1 point there. I won't say that Nashville has our number, but we do tend to underestimate them and we don't come out on fire. I don't think the next game will be any different, so I'll pencil him in for no points that game. This is not a condemnation of Pasha. He brings it no matter who his opponent is. I'm just saying he won't get the chances he would get if the rest of the team was playing up to snuff. Chicago seems to be the team we get up for this year. I see no problem with him getting 2 points per game against them. I am optimistic on his chances of cracking 100 this year.

Not so much koolaid, but I live on raspberry ice crystal light. The person below me mentally beats themselves mercilessly for stupid mistakes.

The cubed roots of 14 and 3, rounded up to the next whole numbers. I'm lowering my expectations until the playoffs. The nice thing is I have no idea what my prediction actually ends up being, so no pressure

If I need to. I work weekends in a convenience store, so I'm usually the one giving them. I have learned to translate Northsouthese into Leftrightese. It took some doing. I have trouble following "turn left" directions as opposed to "go north" directions, and if I'm using a map, I have to be facing north because north is up on the map. If I don't, the whole thing is turned around and I will go the wrong direction because that's the way the map was facing. The person below me thinks the above makes sense.

In my world, where the sky is robin's egg peach and mouse-coloured yellow, I'm telling myself that the team has been using these last few games as a "come from behind" drill in case they face that situation in the playoffs. Let's hope we never get behind. Seriously, though, I do believe they will get more of a sense of urgency when the playoffs start. It's not so much coasting or boredom as it is that they have no motivation to go balls-to-the-wall. What they've been doing is getting the job done well enough to be the #2 in the West. Come the playoffs, especially if they go down the first game, they'll have to step it up a notch, and we've seen them do it a few times this year. I think the difference in mind-set right now is the difference between "go out and play" and "go out and kick some serious butt". When the playoffs start, the mind-set will be different and I think we'll see different results. I'm not saying "flip the switch". I'm saying that during the season, each game is one of 82. During the playoffs, each game is life or death. We've got enough veteran presence in that locker room to know what it takes to win the Cup and what it takes to have a good regular season. I'm sure they all know that what's good enough for one will not be good enough for the other. I'm not sure they need a wakeup call. I think the alarm has been set for mid-April.

Outsider has the quote of the year: I honestly don't see us getting a goalie for over $2 mil. If we could turn back the clock and get the Khabi of years gone by, we'd just turn back the clock and get the Hasek or Sawchuck of years gone by. I think that given how things were at the start of the season, going with Oz and Conk was the best choice. I don't think we'll be able to make a really good, accurate call until after the season is done. If Oz comes through for us, we may just go with Oz/J-Ho for a year and see how it goes. If Oz fails, and Conk comes through, we may see Conk back. If both fail, we're in deep doodoo. Then looking outside the team will look like a great idea. After last year's Cup, it would have been foolish to replace Ozzie. Fortunately, we get to see how this season plays out before Kenny has to make a decision.

Yep! I got woken up by a phone call from my dearest friend, so now I'm awake, but I'm going back to sleep as soon as I find out what's going on here. The person below me uses a colour of toilet tissue other than white.

Some teams have gone without one for a while even without anyone being injured, but no team has historically gone without one as the way they always choose to do things. Then there's the Wild who rotate the C every month.

I got a skateboard when they were a new fad- back in the late '70s. It was a wooden one. The plastic ones came later. Kids just used to tool around the neighbourhood with them back then. No crazy jumping or whatnot. And we didn't wear pads or helmets to do anything in the 'hood. You got those if you went out for football. I wasn't half-bad considering they were just a form of transportation and all you had to do was be able to jump a curb. The person below me has a sore throat.

No, but it would be cool. I'm a pickup gal myself. The person below me still has their tonsils.

I had also wondered who would take the A when Hank had the C and Draper retired. Hank=C Dats=A Do we go with 2 more guys with the A, or just one? I think they gave Dats the (well-deserved) A to give him some experience before Lids and Drapes move on. With Hank and Pav being a bit younger, they might go with 1 A for a bit until the new one gets used to it, and then maybe add another should the need arise. I was wondering about Kronner (yeah, I'm biased). It seems like he's always doing interviews where he sounds like he has a grasp of the feel of the team, and they all seem to like him, from what I've read. He's not about ready to retire, nor is he one of the younger inexperienced ones. Franzen would be another good choice, as Electrophile said, as would Rafalski. And in case of injuries, they have Cheli to step in for a game or 2 as needed. Could someone jog my memory? I'm 99% sure Hank had the C in Timra. Has Pavel ever had it before? Not saying this is a deciding factor. Just something that's been knocking in my head. Oh, and one more question: I wasn't around here when Stevie retired. Was there much controversy on these boards as to who would be the next captain after him?

Balloons, but that's about it. The person below me has had a crush on someone, and then found out they were over 20 years apart in age.

will the expanded playoff roster spark this team?
55fan replied to Rick Zombos Ghost's topic in General
You would think they'd adjust the AHL schedules so they wouldn't have this dilema. I realize that they'd be short-handed during the beginning of their season whilst they were waiting to see which guys got called up to the big time, but I would think it's better to be short at the beginning than the end. Back to the topic: Guys like Draper and Malts ramp it up for the playoffs. Guys like Helm and Leino are trying to make a name for themselves. All of them are playing for the Cup. They've all got the motivation necessary on a couple of fronts. Competition to outplay the other team as well as play up to their fullest potential for their future can only be a good thing if they remember to play as a team and not as individuals. In answer to the thread question: yes. -
Wow. This just puts all our whining and complaining into perspective. Condolences go out to all hurt by this tragedy.

Osgood says he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs

We will be hearing the OZZIE OZZIE OZZIE chant in the playoffs. And it will be a joyful chant from Wings fans. If the rest of the team comes through, Oz will too. -
No. each person gets his own individual thread. Or each position, if you want to get rid of both goalies. No combining. Actually, I'm a bit surprised by this one. I haven't heard McCrimmon called out in weeks.

The post game interview is up on Red Wings tv. It's Kronner, Conks and Babs. Unfortunately, I have the world's slowest dial-up, and after 2 hours of downloading, it only got me the first 44 seconds of the 1:18 total, which means it cut off Babs. Then it conked out. Thought I'd pass that along for you faster folks. I'll just have to go to the mall tomorrow to watch it in high-speed.

Sunday's game against the Wild moved to 12:30 on NBC

But...but...that'd be off-topic. -
Can a woman make it in the NHL? It seems we have a difference of interpretation of the word "can" here. Is a woman able to make it? Given the differences between the genders, not likely. Is a woman allowed to make it? I say if she has the talent, there's no reason why not. When it all comes down to it, the opportunity is all that should be given. Making the grade (without changing the game) is up to the individual- male or female.

Had we lost this 4-3, we'd be all over Conk/Defense/Holland/Babs/Ozzie/my neighbour's cat for letting in 4 goals. Well, tonight, our goalie wasn't the only one on the ice who let in 4 goals. Had we won this 6-5, Conk letting in 5 goals would have been a cause for minor concern. I submit that the problem is the goals against vs goals for ratio. Say "duh" if you wish, but as long as we're not losing 8-0 or 8-2, I'm not nearly as concerned. That said, I hear Manny Legace knows his way around Detroit. (kidding) Edit for clarity.

Ok, so it wasn't Sammy, but I'll take it! Go Nik! Ok, is this some kind of a joke. I don't even have time to celebrate properly when my boy scores. Dang it, boys, get it back and keep it!

Yes he did. It's kind of like reverse psychology. Instead of his shots hitting someone else, he's hitting someone else's shots. Now he will score a goal. I'm sure of it.
