As long as you respect the rights of others to have differing opinions (which seems to be the case), there is absolutely nothing wrong with standing up for what you believe in and living your life according to those standards whether or not other people agree with them. People are so afraid to offend that they are afraid to have opinions, standards, and morals. Sometimes it takes more courage to stand firm in what you believe than to struggle to appear politically correct. I'd be proud to have you for a daughter. At least I would know I wouldn't have to worry about you. I'd like to pose a few questions for people on both sides of this debate: What do you see as the purpose of having slush sluts? Raising attendance? Catering to men's carnal desires? Team spirit? Other? How does your view of their purpose reflect your view on whether or not the Wings need them? I was raised in a era when women were considered lesser and subservient. Do you think having slush sluts perpetuates that? Or do you think it shows that women have broken free of that? Hockey, and sports in general, are viewed as male-dominant. Once this was the case, but now more women are interested, and are voicing their intrest. Do you think teams should ice both men and women to cater to all of its fans? Why or why not? I realize this is coming off as an essay exam. Feel free to just answer the ones that intrest you. Turn your papers over when you have finished, and no talking Just kidding.

MidMichSteve, I'm quoting your last paragraph, and wondering if you could explain what you meant: Do you mean that players will, in the future, see this as a must-show event and make more of a concentrated effort to be there; or do you mean that all players will be required to show up at the expense of receiving treatment for their injuries? Or did you mean something else altogether that I missed? Personally, I would rather that if a player is injured and can't play that he let his replacement do the whole job, and he stay home and receive whatever he needs medically for his situation. If the injury is one which would allow him to go, and if he chooses to, then he would be welcomed there, but the media attention should be on those who are playing, not on those who are attending. It makes the replacements seem second-rate to me. Also, who would determine if a player should go or stay home? Would the league defer to the medical staff? Or would they have some sort of blanket statement that all must attend, which would open a huge can of worms? I don't like this rule to begin with, and quite frankly, I'm worried about the future implications if it is not clarified.

Georgia on my Mind- Ray Charles

No, but I did have a dream that Sidney Crosby came in my room to tell me that my roof was leaking and I needed to fix it- and it was. The person below me has petted a real bison.

Now here we have a sticking point with me. I have no problem with slush sluts, but the matter you describe above is an issue. While there is no excuse for spitting on a girl (if it did happen), the girls have to realize that they are there dressed as they are for the viewing pleasure of the males, which will cause them to think nasty thoughts, which, in turn, will cause them to say nasty things. If they can't handle being treated like pieces of meat, they need another profession. They may well be intelligent, articulate, dignified women who just happen to be physically attractive, but when they accept the job, they accept the baggage that comes with it. Part of that baggage is that they are catering to the carnal desires of men. If they are walking around half-naked, they need to expect that men will act as they do around half-naked women. If you're not selling, don't advertise. They are selling. Not saying they are prostitutes in the strict sense of the word. Certainly a man touching them would be inappropriate. They are selling the fantasy. If a man sees them and dreams, they are doing their job. If a girl wants the job, and is willing to put up with being treated like a sex object, then I'm fine with that. But she needs to realize that she is a sex object. With a shovel. Shovels can hurt.

It Can Happen- Yes

Not with the internet per se, just with my dial up. It is fine for most things, but if I want to watch something on you tube, it takes 30-60 minutes for each minute of video. The person below me thinks Shanny would make a great Commish.

Yay! A GDT! How I've missed these. Wow, that's a banged-up bunch of Jackets. I wish I didn't have to miss this one, but I'll be reading the GDT to relive the magic. Wings take this one 2-1. Hossa, Hudler Nash Many protest signs will be seen.

I've read conflicting articles. One said they were appealing, the other said the matter was "cut and dry" and there was nothing to appeal. Time will tell, but I would think that you are correct when you say there isn't enough time. The best they could hope for would be some sort of stay where they were allowed to play tomorrow, but may have to serve the suspension later. That would not be in the best interest of the team as they are both coming back from injuries now and I believe one of them said he couldn't play anyway. Sorry that didn't answer your question.

Commenting on the bolded part only: I totally agree. This was indeed a stupid rule. I do have a question on whether or not the replacement is allowed or if it is a choice. I have read that they have money saved up where they could have called someone up for one game. Have they simply chosen not to do this to save money or is it not allowed because of the suspension? I believe that Mac is on LTIR, which would mean that we could call up someone and still only have 23 on the roster, because as I understand it, a player does not count towards the 23 if he is on LTIR. Am I correct on that? Does anyone have any insight on why they are playing short rather than calling someone up?

Don't Think Twice, It's Alright- Peter, Paul and Mary

It happens. Don't worry about it. I promise not to be mad at you if you promise not to be mad at me. I do not own a bicycle. I'll reiterate my question, and then we'll be back to square: The person below me has to know which direction (north, south, east, west) their feet are facing when sleeping in a strange bed (like a motel or visiting relatives) before they can fall asleep. Drives me nuts if I don't.

I don't work out. (Yours did get lost in there, didn't it? People answered mine twice. Oversight, I'm sure.) I can't sleep on my back or I get sea-sick. Or something that feels like being sea-sick. Kind of nausea and a disoriented feeling. The person below me has to know which direction (north, south, east, west) their feet are facing when sleeping in a strange bed (like a motel or visiting relatives) before they can fall asleep. Drives me nuts if I don't.

Think of Me - Andrew Lloyd Weber from Phantom of the Opera

Hey, now. Some of us chicks are having a ball here. I don't mind the slush sluts (as long as you let me call them that), nor do I think that those who don't want them are wrong. The jokes were funny though.

YES!!!!! Someone understands what I've been protesting! I was beginning to be afraid that it was just me and egroen (who said it in another thread so well that I almost made it my sig). Allow me to buy you beer (don't drink it in RL, but hey, it's the internet!) :beerbuddy: Oh, and Young Guns 1340, would you believe that it was mentioned by a friend of mine in another thread that she was on a Blackhawks board and they're siding with us? What are the odds of that?
-
Agreed. The extra game out was required to validate the injury. It was intended to be a good faith showing that the player was truly injured. Hence the irony that a player who was healthy enough to attend is not missing the game to prove that he was injured, but the players who stayed home to receive treatments are forced to sit to prove they were really hurt.
-
Oh, I agree Hudler would have been a hoot! Was he asked? I was under the impression that only Hank, Hossa, and Raffy were asked, and then the league went onto other players who were next in line talent-wise. This is not to say that Hudler isn't talented. He is. He's having a great year, and he won me over last spring. I admit I was a bit hesitant about him. I was just wondering if he was asked.

Sexy Eyes- Dr. Hook

Nope, I have the other kind. My sister has a Mac. She likes it. The person below me likes mac'n'cheese.

IIRC, Kopy has experience as a center. Of course, this would leave them short on the wing. Perhaps they will throw Meech up. I'm surprised that they have not called anyone up. From what I understood, they have saved enough cap space to call someone up for one game.

As a matter of fact, I am. I'm just trying to decide what I want. The person below me has looked at clouds and imagined they saw shapes of animals.

The accusation was that they were poor teammates and poor men due to their lack of fighting. From everything I have read about them, they are considered to be great teammates by their actual teammates. They are also, judging from what I have read, great leaders. They are not fighters, they are playmakers and leaders. That is their role on the team. The original poster questioned why they didn't fight or at least stand up for their teammates. I strongly disagree that this does not make them great teammates and great men. You sarcastically added the part about how they treat their families. The original poster said no such thing, nor is throwing that in defending them from the original accusation. I believe strongly that Nick and Pavel are great men and great teammates for the reasons I have stated above, not because they don't beat their wives and force their children to drink bleach, although that is a point in their favour.

I read elsewhere that Holland was not planning to appeal. "Cut and dried" he called it. This article also has Nick's injury listed as "ankle". As much as I want to believe that Franzen will be back, I am still holding my breath. Thank you for posting anyway. This is not a criticism of you.

You do like putting words in people's mouths, don't you?
