    Darren McCarty cleared waivers

Well, my first reaction was to retrieve my heart from the pit of my stomach. Then I got my senses together and realized that Howard was down, and if we had a goalie injury we'd need him back. So, what with cap space and all that, I can live with this. Someone has to be put on waivers. Better to put the Cart before the Hoss.

    The person below me game...

I wanna drive a zamboni! I drive a forklift. Are they similar? Driving, that is; obviously the coolness factor isn't similar. The person below me has owned a hamster.

Never been to a Starbucks in my life. I don't like coffee, and I'm broke. The person below me is allergic to a food product.

    The person below me game...

Nope, it's 5:24 am CST here, and I really should have been up 5 hours ago. I work nights, so on my days off, I try to keep the same schedule. I got messed up this weekend. The person below me owns both metric and standard Allen wrenches. (PS: Go Sox!, from Lefty)

    Of course it is.

Intermission seemed long to me too, but I didn't notice what time it started, so it was just a perception.

Yeah, so I can't watch cuz my internet is too slow, and tonight I can't get the radio links to work, so I'm using the real time ticker thingie.....and then I realize that I pulled out the phone cord and haven't been connected for 10 minutes. Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say : YEAH SAMMY! THAT'S MY BOY!!!!!!!!! Pretty safe night to be a Sammy fan, eh?

does the nhl need a new marketing campaign?

I just looked into the cost of getting a cable package that would allow me to see Wings games. Holy Hannah! If I had that kind of money, I'd get my roof fixed. What the NHL needs is to make the game visible to people who aren't well-off or live in areas where the home games are on regular tv. I said this last year, and I'll say it again. PBS. Every Friday or Saturday night show a hockey game. Before the game, show one hour documentary of the home country of a player from one of the teams playing. Call it educational programming. Get a grant. Show the game. As long as we have a contract with NBC, start advertising, and not just during hockey games. Show a high profile game the week off before the Superbowl when there's no football. Show commercials during the football playoffs. Show some hits, some fights, some great goals. Then announce "The playoffs haven't even started yet." or some such thing. I'm going to be blatantly sexist here. Put together calanders of the hottest guys in hockey. Not the nice ones they have now with the guys in gear, but swimsuit calanders. SI puts out a chick swimsuit issue; why not a hockey swimsuit calander? The guys are ripped. I'm telling you, Crosby, Modano, Flip...they'd sell to the man-interested crowd, who might then tune into the games. And that Hank and Pav reality show? Yeah. Do it.

Sure, if I were a pedophile.

Opposites attract: The Kronwall/Stuart one-two punch

He played 4 seasons with Djurgården IF, which is probably where they got that. Thanks for the link. It was interesting. It sounds like a beautiful place.

    Hudler's tongue

Most pics I've seen of them have her as the taller one. She may be wearing heels in those shots, or he may be standing on a phone book in the one above. Either way, they must be quite comfortable with their heights.

    Hudler's tongue

From what I've read, they're just dating. She turned him down, but was swayed by his persistance. Kind of like his hockey career. Make the most of the minutes you have, and you will be rewarded. Just keep going to the net.... I'll let you finish that in your minds.

    Really, I hadn't noticed. Yeah, there's a reason I saved that shot.

    Andreas Lilja

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kilja lead the team in blocked shots during the regular season last year? I remember reading an article where he said something along the lines of every shot he blocks is one the goalie doesn't have to worry about, so he likes blocking shots. It takes some pretty hefty balls to stand in front of a flying puck and block it with your body, especially if you aren't wearing goalie gear, but to like doing it is another pair of cojones alltogether. The man has his place on the team. He's no Nick, but that's ok. We already have a Nick. The fact that he will stand up for his teammates is another plus. I'm fine with him.

    upside down Stanley Cup

There ya go. Had AC/DC been responsible for an upside down Cup, they could have passed it off as cultural perspective.

Wings to the White House on Tuesday

He can't. He's Canadian. But maybe you're on to something. Have the President hire him as a GM.

Wings to the White House on Tuesday

Should have waited. At least Palin knows what a puck looks like. Sorry, had to get that in (not a McCain supporter- Ron Paul all the way). It's just not often we get someone in politics who likes hockey. Seriously, it's nice they get the honours. They had to work hard for them.

    Thoughts on last night's game...

I didn't mean to imply that he wasn't. Just that he's the only one Mom can recognize by sight. I've heard he's very nice.

    Thoughts on last night's game...

Since I didn't see the game, I called my parents to get Dad's input. Dad knows hockey. Mom, on the other hand, knows that you put the puck in the net and get a point. She also thinks that Mickey Redmond looks like a very nice man. So I asked what happened last night, and before Dad could answer, Mom jumped in with "You know how they usually play so nice together? Passing the puck to each other and working together? Well, last night they just didn't." There's our answer. They have to play nice together. Seriously, it does sound like they just need to gel with each other. That's the nice thing about an 82 game season. It'll happen soon, and we'll be in great shape. I have to say, though, I'm really surprised, given the usual temperament of the board, that the only people running screaming into the night are the ones doing it jokingly. And that's how the Cup changes everything.

That's the spirit! The Red Wings will turn the NHL on its head.

    Thoughts on last night's game...

I didn't get to see the game last night, although little sister taped it so I could see the banner raising. Thanks for all the input, both positive and negative. I'm going to throw out a question, and I may be off base, not having seen the game, but I'd like to know what y'all think. Do you think that perhaps, having played the Leafs recently, that the Wings simply underestimated their opponent? I mean, how many of us looked at the schedule and went "oh, yeah, Leafs. Start it off with a win." Just wondering.

    Red Wings Players:Behind the Scenes

Lilja built his own house. Who knew? It seems a lot of the guys like woodworking and building. They'd be a hella Habitat for Humanity group.
