Question regarding a couple Wings jersey numbers

Since we're talking about numbers, I heard that Downey said he'd be wearing a different number. Does anyone know what it is or if he is wearing it at camp?

Blackhawks to pursue Burke next Summer?

I was expecting the link to have relevance to Darren McCarty's birthday. Since that's not the case, all I can say is :rotflmao: Scotty would spit him out like so much bad couscous. I can't believe the Ducks are considering re-signing him, unless they want him to face the mess he made for next summer's negotiations. Crazy.

NHL.com apparantly hiring 10 year olds

And this, my friends, is why grammer and spelling are so important. We howl about our "right to self-expression", believing that it means that the onus is on others to figure out what we mean, but then the next generation of 10-year-olds become journalists and we wonder why they can't get it write*. If you want some good ones, read the captions by the pictures in the photo galleries of the Freep and Detnews. I forget which it is, but one of them has several players loading "personnel belongings on to the bus". Really, one would think that each would load his own personal belongings, and not be responsible for those of the team's employees. *That was a joke.

Have no fear. The bee was a Michigan bee, thus not an adversary. Pronger will be dealt with like the pest he is. Does anyone else have fun reading the captions and laughing at them or is it just me?

    McCarty agrees to 1-year contract

I'm tickled. Whether he ends up playing more with the Wings or in GR, he has made great strides with his life, and I hope he continues. I'm proud of him for what he has done. I really hope I get to see a lot of him in the Winged Wheel, but I realize that this hope may not be in touch with reality. On the other hand, the sky in my world is a nice shade of burnt sienna. Or maybe raw umber....

Downey's ready to bust some skulls

Man, I wish we could merge a few of these guys into one person so we could have them all on the roster at once! Aaron McKronbergstrom. Or something.

Schneider waived by Ducks/traded to Atlanta.

Because the NHLPA is a union, which means they don't give two figs and a turnip about what the individuals they represent want to do with their own lives; the only thing that matters is that everyone gets the best- with them (the union) deciding what is best for the players. Side note to the LA Kings: Please pick up Schneids. I so want to root for him again.
  14. Parade magazine had a thing on the top celebrity givers for 2007, and Lindros' name was like #6 or something. It had the $5 mil gift to the hospital as his cause. Good for him. It's nice to see someone giving back, and giving to a hospital benefits everyone in that area. Nice to see a hockey player getting some good press as well, although the gift is more important.

    NHL Targeting Europe

Even with teleportation, the time zone difference is an issue. Imagine a European city (we'll call it "E") that is 8 hours off from a city in North America (which we'll call "NA"). If games are traditionally played at 7 pm local time, then games played in "E" are being played by "NA" players who are playing as though it was 11 am; and when games are held in "NA", the players from "E" are playing as though it was 3 am the next morning. I think. I could be backwards. I'm sure Bettman has people looking into this.

    NHL Targeting Europe

If they did it- and that's a very big "if", they would have to have the champs from the Eastern Hemisphere play the champs from the Western Hemisphere for the SCF, and not during the season. There's no way they could put up any kind of a fair schedule with that kind of travel without players being gone for a month at a time to play each team in the other hemisphere. Even if they did that, they'd have to put a tonne of teams in Europe to balance out the two hemispheres for playoff berths. Exhibition games, sure. League expantion, no.

    Draper, Maltby and Lidstrom

Got to watch out for that injury bug. I say we play them until Drapes is one game away, and then bench him until Malts is one game away. Then they are sure to play together. Is it hockey time yet?

    Robert Lang traded to Montreal

I love Lang and hate the Habs. I have to go lie down somewhere and figure this whole thing out. This is worse than if Schneider went to the Ducks...oh, wait.

    Datsyuk in tears?

Quite so. When I read that, I also thought of Dallas Drake this year, even though he started here. One year or one decade, a Cup is a Cup, and if you help win it, you win it as part of the team.

Silver pot at end of Rainbow journey for Mac

I doubt it. I read everything Mac-related I can get my eyeballs on (take that, you homer-haters!) and I haven't read anything yet about eating ice cream from the Cup or about his kid getting a hair cut. The part about Lemioux sounded familiar though. I think I read the book, or saw the video... or something. Great article. I'm all choked up. How great it must be for his kids to have him back as their dad again! He is an inspiration to all who deal with personal demons. God Bless Mac!

    Chelios, McCarty to return

QFT Not to mention that any current player who is better than Cheli will make the team now. Any player who is worse than the guy who many consider to be a washed up old man will go back to GR or be traded or lost to waivers. If they can go back to GR, great. I'd rather see them traded than lost to waivers. That last paragraph was the emotionally unattached businessperson in me. The real me wants to keep all of them. See my sig.

    Who drew you in?

The Toronto Maple Leafs When I was a kid, we moved to Sask and actually got hockey on TV, but not as many Wings games since they let all those new teams in (as my dad would constantly remind anyone who would listen). My hockey-watching memories as a kid were of the Leafs, even though I knew that the Wings were the team I was supposed to cheer for. I would sit mesmerized in front of the TV watching the puck go back and forth up and down the ice. After we moved back to the states, I didn't see much hockey, and I got out of it, but I still have a bit of a soft spot for the Leafs. I don't remember any of the players from when I was three- I mean from actual memories, not looking them up. To this day, Dad will pull for an O6 team over any other. And he still doesn't like it that they let those "new" teams in.

Everyones' favorite NHL team and why

I tend to root for whomever is in last place in either division. (I've gotten a bit fond of the Kings -blame the fact the Luc is hot and I find Kopitar strangely attractive.) It is also a matter of "who would I like to see win out there?" Ducks, no way! Sharks, nah. I've been a Lions fan for long enough that I appreciate the sweetness of each victory in a losing season. Plus, a win for the worst team is a loss for a team that may be a contender. I think I do it because I'm a soft-hearted *****. i want to root for the poor underdogs whilst shoving it in the face of the so-called better team when they lose. None of this applies when the Wings are involved. Then it is Wings All The Way!
