    Biggest Wing Fan

Aw, rats, I thought when you were looking for the biggest fan, I'd win hands down. But since we're not talking weight here...... I was a fan in the late 60's, when we lived in Canada. Then we moved to the States and I got into football more than hockey. Now I am more into hockey. I don't think I count since I left and came back. My dad has been a fan since the 1940's. That 1997 cup meant the world to him.

    Homer Out, Lids probable

I bet no Wing will score tonight either. But I bet that no one will score against them. (This bet is for local Detroit time, 6:20 pm, Saturday night, only. Eastern hemisphere folks who are already into Sunday should take this into account.) Too bad about Homer. Call me crazy (go ahead, you won't be the first), but I'd like to see Dats, Hank and Franzen together. For some reason, I think it would work. Come back, Captain, as soon as you are ready!

Tre Red Wings go for Stanley

Um, what? Kronner is LESS SKILLED than Lilja and Sammy? So much to refute in that article, but I'll leave the rest to others. My head's still spinning on this statement.
  4. I didn't see the incident in question, so I'm just throwing in a general viewpoint. I really don't think that when most people say "I'm going to kill you" they actually mean that they are going to murder the person. I know I don't. They usually mean, "I'm mad at you" or I'm going to beat you up". As long as there is that distinction, and everyone involved understands it, there's no problem. It is part of the trash talk that is common in athletics. Now if a person actually means it, we have a different story, but I would think that if a person meant it, they would probably not announce it on TV; or if they did, they'd reconsider doing it at that time as they would be a likely suspect. A lot of people are given to hyperbole. My dad always said if we did thus-and-so, we wouldn't be able to sit down for a week. A few minutes, maybe, but never did it end up being an actual week. When someone says "I'm going to kick your @$$", how often to they actually aim their foot at the person's posterior? Not often. They usually punch the person's face. But everyone knows what they mean and they react accordingly. Once upon a time, disputes were settled out back (of where ever) with fists, and the issue was over and done. Now that is not allowed, and it festers until people actually do kill other people. Death threats are taken seriously. My friend broke up with an abusive boyfriend and told him "We're done. You're history, you're toast. I never want to see you again." She spent 2 years in prison, because "You're toast" is a death threat. Perhaps the players need to tone it down, or perhaps the world needs to realize that they are not seriously going to murder each other. I don't know, but perhaps there is some sort of middle ground, like, maybe "I'm gonna cream you" or "you're gonna get what's coming" or something of that nature which doesn't use the word kill - anihalate, waste, destroy, or mop the floor with you would all work. No one would really think that someone was going to use them as a cleaning accessory. "I'll get you, my Sammy, and your little Dats too!" We are a more literal society where these things are concerned, and with the rate of actual murder, who can blame us? Over all, though, when it is just words, I tend to think, as someone previously posted, "that's hockey, eh".

    Reminder: Posting Etiquette

In real life, I work in a factory. As such, I have heard quite a bit of swearing and I'm used to it. Heck, where I work "F*** you" is considered to be a witty comeback. Seriously. People will say "good one!" and mean it. I am the sort of person that will swear at work, depending on who is there and what the situation is, but when I write something, I try to use a better vocabulary. I consider it a challenge. It's too easy to use the F word, or some form thereof, as every part of speech except a preposition. Really, it doesn't add much. If something is really big, is that any different than F***ing big? Why not find a word to better express the enormity? Like, say, enormous. I'm not offended by swearing, but most of the time is seems like default vocabulary. I'm glad you're cleaning it up, Matt. I wander over to another site on occasion because they have good pics. It's scary what an unmoderated site can become. Every other post is name-calling and is now getting to the point where the admin is threatening to get the cops involved because people are actually threatening each other. And this is supposed to be a friendly place for girls to chat about which hockey player is the cutest. I love this place, and I'm glad you and the mods do what it takes to keep it clean rather than have it fall into a cesspool and then try to clean it up when it's too late.

How are we liking Brad Stuart?

He's a defenseman we got from LA at the trade deadline for a 2nd and a 4th. We tried to get him for a 2nd, a 4th and Sammy, but the Kings were too tough at the negotiation table. Anyway, I like him. He seems to fit well with Kronner, so I hope when Lids is back that they will have Kronner/Stuart as the 3-4 pair. The only negative thing in all of this is it means that we have too many d-men that I like and someone will have to sit. That's a beautiful problem. I do hope that if he keeps playing well that he will re-sign with us, but I won't hold my breath.

    McCarty called up

This makes me happy. Reunite the Grind Line, then when someone is asking for it, send out the D Line (Darren, Drake, Downey) to put the fear of the deity or non-supernatural entity of your choice into the opposition. Alternate sitting Huddie and Koko and tell them whomever does the better job now gets to play with the big boys in the playoffs. Oh, Mac, my Mac. Best wishes to you. I couldn't be happier for you. I'm gonna go get a tissue now......

    Dom's new signature move

How about "Hasek flying human bowling ball angel of zamboni-like death Czech poke"? Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a winner. Now would someone write it down for those of us who have those senior intellectual interludes?

    Maltby Is The Man

It's true that there isn't a lot of Maltby love around here until he scores a goal. I think this is because those of us who like him just don't have anything to talk about until he scores a goal and someone starts a thread. I mean, what are we going to say otherwise? Um, yeah, Maltby sure is.....um..........dressed for the game. Yeah, that's an interesting thread. He's tied for 5th on my "Top 5 Wings" list. I had to have ties or I couldn't fit everyone in.

    3/2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Sabres 2

Not only can you not boil the smell out of the buffalo, can you imagine the size of the woman who could smuggle it into the arena in her underwear? Ok, I volunteer, but only if the Sabres are playing the Ducks and I get free tickets. Better make it two. I'll take up that many seats with a buffalo encased in my Fruit of the Looms. They said pretty much everything except Filppula. Flip-u-la. Fil-lip-u-la. My dad can't say it either. His is Flip-a-pu-li. Or Fil-lip-u-li (long I sound on the end of those). He had one I can't even type. I don't know how he managed to say all the L's without vowels between them. I've finally got him to say "Val" or "Flip". Maybe we need to send out a memo.

    3/2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Sabres 2

Tiny recap: Boo! Yay! Yay! Yay! WTF?BOO! Yay! Not so tiny recap: They scored early on and we all went "here we go again", but then we stepped it up, scored 3 goals, there was a scrum involving everyone except a couple of Sabres who went in and scored. We scored an inusrance goal and won. Highlights: Sammy got assist #25. Yes, he PASSED THE PUCK!!! Lilja got the save of the game; great enough to get some people to actually like him. Kronner controlled the defensive portion of the game and set the offense up nicely. Stuart looked good again- seems to be a good pick up. Dom was great and did something funny that I couldn't see since I had radio feed, and lousy feed at that. Franzen looked great. Flip and Huddie showed up and played. Downie brought us energy. Drake and Malts had their best games of the season. I do believe tha t Dom and Kronner just needed last game to get back into the swing of things and that they are now Forces To Be Reckoned With. Those who saw the game report that an octopus was thrown on the ice. LGW members hillariously debated the feasibility of throwing a Buffalo on the ice. The Buffalo radio guys can not say Flip-a-lu-la to save their lives.

    Maltby Is The Man

I've always liked Malts. Anyone who can be a prick and a sweetheart at the same time or change with the flick of a switch is good in my book.

    Kronwall

You know, you guys (and others in the GDT) who are willing to come out and say you've changed your minds really make my day. Once upon a not-so-long-time ago, being a Kronner fan was like cheering for Sammy. I am so glad Kronner is showing what he can really do, and that people are coming around to him. Thanks for saying it. What a win tonight! Group hug!................... Anyone?..............Someone?.............Teddy Bear?

    3/2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Sabres 2

WOW! I'm so happy, I'm teary-eyed. Great game! Special kudos to Dom, Kronner, Malts, Drake, Killya, and congrats to Sammy on assist #25. Who knew he passed that many times this season? We're back, and it feels GOOD!

    3/2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Sabres 2

I don't see why they would boo Dom after everything he's done for their city. Just read a good article here Anyway, I forgot to say in my last post: GO WINGS! GO DOM!

    Ian Laperriere

Yup, that's how I read it too. Unless there was more to the quotes than what was printed here, that's still how I understand it. If there is more, further review will be needed.

    3/2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Sabres 2

Month of March. Many Magic Moments: Meech, Malts, and Mikael score (wish we'd have kept Matt, just for today). Wings 3; Sabers not-so-3.

    Raffy back Wednesday?

Hasek, Kronner, and Raf back. Lids, Cheli, and Cleary to go. In the words of Jon Bon Jovi: Woah, we're halfway there, Woah-oh, livin' on a prayer. Take my hand, and we'll make it, I swear. Livin' on a prayer. I feel better already. You know you're singing it now.

Something this losing streak taught me

When Zata went down, we still managed to win. We had Cleary, Dats, and Lids and several of the other forwards picked up the slack. Now no one is stepping forward (pardon the pun), so it does tell us how important the defense is to our team's system of play. We were in a losing streak when Lids went down. Losing him gave us a bit of fire to win that game. I agree that what Lidstrom brings to the team cannot be replaced or even measured. The same could be said for Cleary, who is so clutch it's scary. Is Lids the MVP of the team? I'd have to agree that he is. Hurry back soon, Captain; we need you.
  21. Absolutely! Answer: The whistle. Question: What is the only thing NHL refs didn't blow tonight?

Red Wings activate Kronwall from IR

Welcome back, Kronner! As others have said, drink your milk. And while we're at it.... Eat your veggies and plenty of protein, get plenty of rest, don't sit on the seat of a public toilet, and wear a sweater if you feel chilly. Please, please stay healthy. We need you.

McCarty WILL join Wings a week from Monday

I looked at NHL.com's roster and saw #25 Darren McCarty as a healthy scratch and even though he wasn't playing, it felt so good to see his name there that I actually got teary-eyed. Welcome back Mac! As far as lines go- I'd like the Grind line reunited; with Drake, Mac, and Downey as the "oh, you guys are gonna get it now" line. OK, maybe something a bit more threatening than that.

    2/29 GDT: Sharks 2, Red Wings 2

At least this horrible, terrible month is over. March is knocking at our doorstep and with it the winds of change. Detroit will come in and go out like a lion. Ooh, this is Detroit. Bad analogy.* Hasek will come back in full force, not that I blame him for tonight: that was the refs, but he will be back stronger and better than ever. Kronner and Stuart will be joined by Lids, Cheli, and Raf, and we will have a better defense than that with which we started the year. With the D back and better than ever, the scoring will pick up. The Wings will rise again! It will happen! Have faith in our team! *(Don't flame me: I'm a hardcore Lions fan, but I feel I can joke about it here amongst Michigan people, unlike where I live in Vikings territory, where I have to hold up the Silver and Honolulu Blue with all my might.) Sometimes I'm such a Pollyanna Sunshine that I make myself gag. ETA: Wow, I go off to type a post and everyone and their dog also points out that it is now March. Great minds think alike!
