    Game day experince

Sounds like a good one to me. Although if they hung around here, you might get them with "We got Chili, you got Cheeseburgers." In the words of Bugs Bunny, "If you can't beat'em, confuse'em." PS I still love Robert Lang.

    GDT 11/17: Blackhawks 5, Red Wings 3

QUOTE(55fan @ November 17, 2007 - 09:43PM) You know, I think we need to take a diplomatic course of action. Kind of a good will thing. We should have one of our players visit his counterpart on the opposing team, wish him luck, give him a man-hug. Things like that. We'll try it the next time Ozzie gets the flu. It would have been a good thing this time. Translation for the mentally impaired: Ozzie is a goalie. He was out with the flu. Had he given the flu to Khabi, Chicago would not have had a good goalie in net tonight. We had a lot of shots. We might have won without him in there. Note: If you got it the first time, ignore this post.

Since I have received a sign of the End Times (Kronwall and Sammy are listed as "hot"), I believe we will lose. Actually, I have been picking the Lions to lose all season in the football pool at work, and it seems to be working, so I'll do it here as well. Lang hat trick. Kronner and Sammy 1 each Hawks 3, Wings 2 ETA: Is the time really 7:30? My schedule and NHL.com have it listed as 7:00 (Eastern). Just wondering.

    Bryzgalov Reportedly on Waivers

Not that the Wings need another goalie, but any guy with a consectutive YZ in his name should be Wing material. Who is the new #2 in Duckville?

    All-star voting

Just to make sure that all my Red Wing votes are getting counted and that I am understanding this all right. I haven't been filling in all the stuff, as I understood that all that was just for a chance to win the promotional stuff. My votes are still getting counted even though I didn't register, right? Sorry if this seems stupid.

Whats Wrong With the Wing's Marketing?

OK, I have never been to Detroit, much less the Joe. I am probably not qualified to make any sort of suggestion, but ignorance has never stopped me before. I think aiming at younger fans is key. How about giving away sets of, say, four tickets to certain games? Get together with the schools and have these tickets be given away at school. Any student with perfect attendance during a preset time can register to have his/her name put in a drawing. Throw in a dog and soda for each person, and you have the opportunity to expose new fans to the game, as well as rewarding kids for staying in school. Good PR, a few more seats filled, and a memory the kid will have for a lifetime. Who knows? The kid may grow up to be a season ticket holder. Just a thought. Rip as you will.

Zata continues his streak with a goal. Kariya scores because my sister loves him. Cheli scores to prove he can. Jackman scores for no reason. Dats breaks the tie and wins the game. People complain anyway, because we can. Wings 3, Blues 2.
  10. 55fan

    Congrats to Henrik Zetterberg

Way to go Hank, keep it up! Hope you get all the good bounces from now on. Good luck against the Blues.

    11/11 GDT: Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 2

My predictions: Hank will get another point. (Assist on a Dats goal). Lang will score. Homer will score, with an assist from Kronwall. Lang will score. Malts/Drapes/Cleary will have a goal and assists apportioned somehow. Lang will score. Flip will score, Osgood assist. Final: Wings 4, Hawks 3. I love Lang, but I love us more.

Loo, Dom's not going bald; his hair is just slowly realizing that his head is as perfect as the rest of him and it is leaving as a show of respect. Kronner! Nice to have him back. I'm glad he took the extra days to get back to full strength.

Definately no shortage of stupid people in the world, that's for sure. I just think Native kids would get less hassle if the team was named the Fighting Squid (or hamsters or whatever). I've never heard of an old lady getting crap at a Bison game for having a "buffalo hump" and chin hair. Not that I go to Bison games. Maybe I should think long and hard before I do. I probably should have added this in before, but I'll do it now since I have the little red box open: I personally think that any new teams should shy away from potentially offensive names, just to avoid the trouble, but that current teams (like the Seminoles) should be decided by the people in that area who are effected by the name.

Kronner is back! I usually don't go all fangirly on this, but I have a good feeling tonight. If he doesn't get a goal, he'll get an assist or two. Or maybe he'l just hit the crap out of someone. Wings 3-1 Kronwall, Dats, Cheli, with Z on all assists. Nash. Oh, yes, GO WINGS! GO DOM! Hold that clipboard proudly, Oz, you have been great and deserve a rest.

Actally, it was my old roommate's sister who took her kids and was asked if they were going to dance. They weren't even Sioux, they were Ojibwa. The story spread amongst our group of friends, and it wasn't long before people were telling stories of other people they knew who had reported the same type of experience at other teams' games. You are quite correct that perception is reality in cases like this. A little from one stupid person here and there goes a long way. The sad part is that they are still considered to be "out of the norm". They live here. And they were here first. When my Godson was three, he was in tears because his mother commented that he was "wild" that day. He started crying that he was not a "wild Indian". She had no idea where he got that, since it certainly wasn't from her. It's sad when a kid is ashamed of his heritage. He's cool with it now, but that incident says a lot about how Native kids perceive how society looks at them. Now when he plays "Cowboys and Indians" with his action figures (or whatever they call them), he has them joined together in battle against Space Aliens. That way both sides of his heritage are the "good guys". Smart kid.

Coming from Fargo, ND (home of the NDSU Bison, not the UND Fighting Sioux), I'm going to throw in my $.02 here. Half the problem with the Native names is that people tend to forget that the names are identies of actual people. A school may be named after a Native tribe or given a name like "warriors" or "chiefs" or something closely associated with Native culture, and it may have been to honour those people. There are lots of teams around here that have Native-associated names. Where it all goes south is when you have a mascot running around behaving like an idiot, or when the other teams' fans start shouting jeers against the school. My Godson is half Cherokee. Imaging being a kid like him at a game where the people next you are shouting "Indians Suck!" "Scalp the Indians- they did it to us first" or just making fun of your dances, some of which have religious connotations, and dancing around doing the woo-woo-woo-woo thing clapping their hands over their mouths. Don't take it personally, kid, we're not talking about your people, just the white guys on the field/court/diamond/whatever who are using your people as a mascot. I once saw an aritcle about a Native guy (and this was some time ago) who made and sold items like pennants and caps for fictional teams like the "Kansas City Caucasions" and "Nashville Negros" to make a point. UND is going through a huge thing with the name. Most of the whites I know don't see a reason to change. Most of the Natives I know want it changed, not because of the name, but because they can't take their kids to the game without people looking at them funny. They think they're part of the entertainment and expect them to get up and dance or something. There was a joke a few years back where someone drew a picture of a woman swinging her purse and suggested they rename he team the "Fighting Sue". I guess some women named Sue were offended by that.

I'm saying the Wings will win 4-0. Zata continues his streak and Draper gets the hat trick. Cuz it's a good day to send out some Draperlove.

    Injury Update: Kronwall still out...

I realize this is Kronwall we're talking about, but aren't we overreacting just bit? It's a groin injury. You can't just put a splint on it. Not if you want to skate. He'll be back. I agree that the rest of the D is looking good, but, geesh, we don't need to talk trade over a groin when the groin hasn't been the reason for all the other injuries. Is he playing too rough for his size? Maybe. In that case, maybe he needs more time with Lids to learn to play smart, although I'd really miss those big hits. Nik's to do list: Get healthy. Stay healthy. Play smart. Shoot more. Win cup.

    Where is Darren McCarty?

Better yet, put him between the glass like Pierre and we'd not only have a commentator, we'd have a free enforcer. You know he'd forget himself and start something. Hey, get a cable contract for "Xtreme Hockey Commentating" and he could use all the naughty words and throw all the punches he wanted. Talk about ratings! Just put a parental advisory on it. I love D, and I'd love to see him around in some way even if his playing days are over.

Head over to Yahoo! NHL to vote

I voted. St. Paul is listed because Minnesota is a state, not a town. You could call it Hockeystate, but not Hockeytown. The percentages not adding up thing happens when they round numbers.

    Hockey songs

Um, yeah, that'd be me. It takes a certain kind of insanity. I wrote quite a few, but lost all but this one, which I posted here last summer. Hope you like it. The midi in the link isn't the best, but it works. It's to the tune of American Pie by Don McClean. Midi at: http://members.tripod.com/~boogietown/page_2.html A long, long year ago Do we all remember how The Captain used to make us smile? But he retired and we were low, Then Shanny also chose to go- We didn’t think we’d win for quite a while. We watched with barely hopeful shiver But Hank and Dats- they did deliver. Homer played the doorstop While Hasek made one more stop. And even though we had a cry When old 19 was raised up high, We knew they’d spread their wings and fly. The Wings will never die. Oh, my, my look at Zetterberg fly Looks like Heaven, motor revving’, what a wonderful guy. Put him with Dats, and our limit’s the sky Cuz those Red Wing boys will never say die. Red Wing boys will never say die. You look at them- what’s not to love? Drapes, Malts and Clears- they sure can shove If a team needs laying low. Dominator still can flop and roll And Ozzie gives the team some soul Just knowing he could jump right in and go. And Nick Lidstrom, we’re in love with him, With a Norris win for every limb. At home we couldn’t lose- All the central sang the blues. We were impressed then with our Finnish buck, And Franzen stood like a big Mack truck. Kronwall’s face was pure bad luck. The Wings will never die. We started singing My, my, look at lil Hudler fly He’s just zippin’ and a-rippin, but we’re wondering why His ice time’s low, cuz he’s a wonderful guy. Oh, those Red Wing boys will never say die. Red Wing boys will never say die. Now some fans start to whine and moan “Been five years since we’d a cup our ownâ€Â. But the rest smiled and said “Wait and see.†They all said that Calgary was mean And our boys were all too small and lean, But we fought and won the victory. We won the two in old Motown, But in Calgary things slowed right down Our hopes were slightly burned. To Motown we returned. But then our boys regained their spark, We left the Flames burnt out all dark And set our sights to hunt for Shark The Wings will never die. We were singing My, my, see McClennan’s stick fly Sent our Franzen bent and dancin’ but he gave his reply. He scored the big goal just by shooting it high Cuz those Red Wing boys will never say die. Red Wing boys will never say die. Lost Lil’ Nik, but got back Zetter. Lang and Sammy looked much better. The playoffs seemed to sail right past. Holmstrom had to take a pass But came back attired in plexiglass With him back, the Wings came back up really fast. Then the defencemen were full of gloom When Schneid’s wrist broke, it filled the room With many’a downward glance. But Quincey gave us a chance. It was another round for the Winged Wheel, The fans and boys just had to feel A Stanley victory was real. The Wings will never die. We started singing My, my, look at Mike Babcock’s tie Superstition, hopeful wishin’, let’s just give it a try. The Sharks are gone, just a Duck left to fry. Cuz those Red Wing boys will never say die. Red Wing boys will never say die. Oh, and when the Ducks came to our place We wiped the smile off Pronger’s face. The toll showed on those who defend. Although Quincy’s nimble, Lebda’s quick Cheli, Lilja, Dan and Nick- They gave their all, but had to see it end. Homer downed, and we did rage As Pronger’s elbow did engage. We watched as Homer fell, After that was never well. We lost three times after that night. The Stanley Cup was out of sight. We saw Pronger laughing with delight. But Wings will never die. We started singing My, my, what a terrible guy. He’s a-winnin’ and a-grinnin’- hope he’s hung out to dry. Where’s D Mac and Probie? They’d’ve blackened his eye. As we watched our Stanley Cup dreams all fly. But Red Wing boys will never say die. And though we know it hurts to lose Maybe next year will bring happy news. We signed Rafalski right away. I have to wonder what’s in store, Since the team’s not what it was before, But really, things have never been that way. In the Joe, the fans will scream The Wings will always chase that dream. Tradition is unbroken, Though different names are spoken. Two or three years at the most, Lord Stanley’s Cup we’re sure to host. And it will be our turn to boast. The Wings will never die. And we’ll be singing My, my, look at Chelios fly. He’s still Heaven at forty-seven. What a wonderful guy. Sobotka still chases boiled octopi Cuz the Red Wing boys will never say die.

Panic Button HAS been pressed in Vancouver.

I can't answer as a RW fan because I only got back into hockey after the Wings had won a couple cups in recent memory, but having been a Lions fan for oh, about 4 decades, I can tell you that after a while you get stoic, and then you get a sense of humour about it. My dad has followed Detroit teams since he lived there as a child in the early 1940s. He always told me that being a Lions fan builds character. If the Wings were (God forbid) to start losing, I'm sure there would be much anger, finger-pointing, a few fair-weathers leaving, and then we'd settle into it, much like Lions fans have. Then when they started winning again, we'd be suspicious, like I have been with the Lions this year. If the Lions win the Superbowl, I'll probably faint dead away. Life does move on. It just sucks when your team isn't winning.

Not to worry. He and Bab both said it's just a precaution. Better to take a night off than risk an injury. They've got Meech to cover for him. I'd rather it was Quincey, but I guess it's the waiver thing, so Go Meech! Get Well Soon Nik!
