    The person below me game...

Oh, yes. Nothing like hearing songs you used to close down the bar with on "the oldies channel". Or realizing that you have friends (young ones, of course) who have only been alive for two Red Wings Stanley Cup Victories. These are the kids who see your 98 Championship t-shirt and say, "I wasn't even born yet!" Or when your boss was born after you were legally drinking. The person below me watched Romper Room.

Hose if I have bare legs. I have fat old lady legs. Keep 'em covered. It's a kindness to society. Mow the leaves with a bagger mower, rake them, or other option (state details in 2000 syllables or fewer)?
  5. Ketsup is as spicy as I can handle things. I don't do hot sauce, peppers, or anything that causes my tongue to cry out in pain except for these one sandwiches that have some spicy ham that is so worth it because the rest of the sandwich rocks. Severus Snape is sexy. And I don't mean the movie version, although Alan Rickman is also sexy.

Whoa. Now that guy would be Smuggler of the Year.

Detroit would like to welcome the Eastern Conference

Not sure about the ice, but above the visitors' dressing room door should read: Omnes relinquite spes, o vos intrantes (credit: Dante in The Divine Comedy. translation: Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.)
  8. I guess when I think of a fight, I think of two guys punching each other. As long as they're standing and hitting (or hugging, which happens a lot too), their heads are no where near the ice unless they get knocked out and fall. It's the take-downs where the heads and ice make contact with enough force enough to cause injury or death. I'd rather ban the take down and let them lose the helmets. Maybe I'm just old, but the removal of helmets before a fight has always seemed like the chivalrous thing to do. Back in the day, we didn't have to worry about it, but then when some players started wearing them, it caused a mis-match with one player wearing one and the other not. Taking the helmet off evened the playing field. Nowadays with everyone wearing them, I guess the playing field is even, but in cases where the combatants are standing mano a mano, it just looks like they're showing respect for the opponent's hands by removing the helmets. When I see helmets on during a fight, I have the same reaction as when I see youngsters with their panties hanging out of their trousers. You! Young man! Pull up your pants, get a job, and take off your helmet when you fight! <grumble, grumble> Kids these days. Alas, as usual with nostalgia, the Good Old Days were generally more Old than Good.

    Official Detroit Lions thread

Lions on the computer. Flipping between the Vikes and the Pack on the tv (muted). It was a beautiful day until the Bears played. Not making any playoff signs yet, but at least we're off to a better start than usual (except for years where we tank at the end, of course).

Mrazek for now. We'll see about Coreau. Men: boxers or briefs? Ladies: high-cut sides or low?

    Paul Ranger's Shootout Attempt(?).

Well! You, sir, may not see the harm in it, but suppose some impressionable tot out there in tvland had seen this and decided to emulate it but, not being a highly trained professional, he had bent over too far causing his wee little shirt hem to rise above his wee little padding causing his jersey to tuck into his pads. Why, the innocent little tyke would have a tucked jersey, and we know that the league has declared this to be dangerous as well as unsightly. This man must be severely punished! It's all fun and games until someone loses a yambag. Think, sir, of the children!

    Wings to Keep Tootoo?

<Doing a kind of wiggly happy dance> I'm a happy girl now. If the boys stick to the injury schedule, we'll be able to work everyone in with no trades.
  14. What a beautiful day it's been in football land. Here's to continued delight in hockey land. Z and Pavel playing is a good sign.

Burke Wins Default Judgment Against Internet Defamers

True. They could also claim that someone hacked their account or something of that nature. It would be very hard to prove. It is basically just a moral victory. I'm sure he won't get anything for it, but it does send a message.

9/21 Pre-Season GDT : Boston Bruins at Red Wings, 7:00 EST

So since we beat them 8-2 and they beat us 2-0, does this mean that we beat them 8-4 in the grand scheme of things? Maybe?

I think I'm seeing a pattern: If Z and Pasha play, we win. Welcome, Misha. We're nuts here. Just so you know.

Oh, I know. I felt bad for Subban. I wondered why on earth they made the poor kid play the whole game. I was just checking updates (sneaking into the ladies' room at work), so I may be wrong on that, but that's what it looked like.

Burke Wins Default Judgment Against Internet Defamers

Merci pour l'offre, mais je dois travailler. Attendez une minute ... n'êtes-vous pas marié? Je suis sûr que j'ai lu que dans l'Internet. I just noticed that this is in BC. I wonder if there are different laws there regarding libel and the internet.

Burke Wins Default Judgment Against Internet Defamers

Agree with T. It's one thing for us to sit here and bash a player or GM for his hockey-related moves or even comment on a public disclosure of their personal lives. When people are famous, gossip abounds on the net, but to state outright something that is not just a suspicion and is baseless, that's just as much libel as if it's in an article. As far as suing, I think that depends on whether or not someone took the gossip seriously and there were bad results from it. I don't know if that happened in this case or not, so I'm not going to judge Burke, but if (just for instance) his wife had read and believed it or if the lady had lost her job over it, there would certainly be reason to sue. I would hope that people realize that the internet is filled with people who ramble on about crap (cf me) and not put any stock into comments like these people made. Of course, if we read it on the internet, it must be true. And I'm a French model.

Don't want to embarrass the Bruins? This is the first game during which I won't be working. I hope that my internet prowess comes up with something, but I have a bad feeling about this.

    Jets release Ian White

That's too bad. I liked him. I even gave a hamster the middle name Ian, even though I've never been partial to the name. Doubly sad that he was released by the Jets. I hope he finds something, even if it's in another league.
