  1. Now that's a clever title. :D

When he was with the Devils I wanted him to play with Ruutu"..." Imagine that

Sometimes he did. It was fun listening to it. Our local USHL team has a guy named Roo. I wanted to get him on a line with them. Ruutu to Tootoo to Roo to Ruutu.....

I'm glad Jordin is employed, but I hate that he's with a team that I hate to watch. Maybe he'll accidentally injure Kane and get traded...

  2. Abby is a strong choice. He is pretty vocal and seems to be respected by the guys. He does well with the media and (barring a weird trade) will be around for a while.
    I'd give him the nod.

  3. They might make some money out of people who choose to go to Vegas when their team is playing. I doubt people would go just to see the game. It would be more like, "When are we going to Vegas?" "I don't know. Check the schedule and see when the Wings are playing the Crap Shooters and we'll go then."

Who knows, though... maybe people who live in Vegas who came from colder regions (or California) who are already hockey fans will support a team just to have some hockey games to attend.

I still think it's a dumb idea though.

  4. Pittsburgh has never won the Cup on home ice.

Although they had a chance in the 1995 Finals before the game was interrupted by terrorist attacks in OT of game 7.

I thought Chicago would take that, but for some reason, Chelios just didn't look like himself.

As for this year, the Sharks just haven't looked like themselves either. I expected it to be a much tighter series. The Sharks had momentum coming in. I really thought they'd put up more of a fight.

I also didn't think the Penis would get this far, so what do I know?

  5. Depends on where the tap is. Fargo, ok. Moorhead, not a chance.

At home I have one of those pitchers that filters it in my fridge. Much better than tap, but not the expense and waste of bottled.

    Blues or Sharks?

  6. FDA is now going to regulate cigars, and ecigs.

As a consumer of stogies - this really cheeses me off...F-ing feds.

That's the problem with people who pass rules.

You give them an inch, they take a mile.

In Fargo, they put a no-smoking ban to a vote. It didn't pass the first few times so they added an exemption for places that children weren't allowed. Then it passed. Most of the people who wanted to smoke in public wanted to do it in bars anyway.

Then they tried to pass one that would not allow people to smoke in bars. They made a big deal to the public about how it would be good for business because now "anyone" could go in there. No, they just changed the definition of "anyone". No one was actually being kept out before. They chose not to go in there. They may have had good, solid, health-related reasons, but it was their choice. Several non-smoking bars were opened, and they all failed. No one wanted to go there if one of their group smoked, or if they smoked, even if only when drinking.

The only way they got that through was by adding an exemption for the one cigar place that offered sales and storage, as well as a lounge for people to smoke their cigars in. That made sense. People went there for the sole purpose of smoking.

Then they banned smoking in there.

What really got people irate is that with each step, businesses spent a good chunk of money to accommodate their customers. Originally smoking was allowed if there was a separate area with its own ventilation. Businesses put them up.

Then, when it was moved outside, bars put up smoking shelters. Now you can't smoke within 20 feet of a door, vent, or window, so all of that money was wasted.

Fortunately there is still one place they can't touch. All of our casinos are on reservations. Since they are run by a sovereign nation, they can set their own laws. Many have voluntarily built separate non-smoking sections, but their business has increased from smokers looking for a night out.

No one would be half as mad about how things turned out if the non-smokers hadn't approached each step as a "compromise". At first, smokers were glad to compromise. Then as each "compromise" took away more, there was increased bitterness. Eventually, the pretense of "compromise" was dropped, and smokers were left feeling cheated. We jumped through all the hoops in the hopes that things would be fair. We had our spaces; they had the rest. Then they took ours too.

So we sit in casinos and our Native brethern say, "You didn't learn anything about treaties, did you?"

  7. Well, Facebook is for dog pictures and the internet is for porn. Can't expect everyone here to know about the backstory of "Nyquist the horse".

They mentioned it every single game and intermission and pre-game leading up to the race. Of course, it was just a convenient tie-in since NBC was broadcasting the Derby and wanted to keep reminding hockey fans to tune it. It must have worked. I actually did watch just to see.

The fact that it was right before a game had a lot to do with it, but I was curious. Blew my mind that they can do a 2+ hour pre-game show for a 2 minute race.

  8. I came to check on the arena name thread after a few days, and it's closed!

Y'all have gotten out of control with this. Do the moderators/administrators even want people to post here anymore? I know the site is already a shell of its former self, are you trying to finish it off?

You have NO idea what you missed.

Be assured, that no Italians were harmed in the making of the arena. Everyone else, apparently, had coronaries.

  9. We're all overlooking the simple solution: Out-bid them. The place hasn't been finished yet, so if one of the people who are "outraged" by this offered more than the expected price, that person would have the naming rights.

Oh, no one has the money? Neither did Mike and Marian until they started Little Caesar's and earned it.

  10. At least there's a Little Ceaser's Hockey thing. Maybe it's a tie-in for the kids.

I wasn't all that surprised. I mean, there are lots of businesses and/or products that wouldn't work at all. I mean, how silly would "Summer's Eve Arena" be when we don't play in the summer?
