FIRST STAR -- ALEX OVECHKIN, LW, WASHINGTON CAPITALS Ovechkin video Ovechkin led all NHL scorers in March with 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists) and recorded a +17 rating in 14 games as the Capitals went 10-4-0 in pursuit of a playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Two of his goals were game-winners, against Boston, Mar. 3 and Calgary, Mar. 12. On Mar. 21 in Atlanta, he became the first player to notch 60 goals in a season since Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr both did it in 1995-96. Entering play Tuesday night, Ovechkin leads the League in goals (62), points (109), power-play goals (21), game-winning goals (10) and shots (430). SECOND STAR -- MARC-ANDRE FLEURY, G, PITTSBURGH PENGUINS Fleury video Fleury posted a 9-1-1 record, 1.44 goals-against average, .951 save percentage and two shutouts in 11 games as Pittsburgh (46-26-8, 100 points) moved into first place in the Eastern Conference. Franzen has appeared in 69 games for the Red Wings, recording 36 points (26 goals, 10 assists) with a team-leading eight game-winning goals. 2. http://info.detnews.com/redesign/blogs/win...FTOKEN=62252451 Tomas Holmstrom will have a cortisone shot Friday to alleviate the discomfort for his abdominal strain. Holmstrom has missed the last 10 games (counting Friday's game against St. Louis) and likely won't be back until Wednesday's game in Chicago, at the earliest. "We'll see if this can decrease the pain and he can get out there and skate," coach Mike Babcock said. All of Holmstrom's tests have been positive and shown no tears.

Holmstrom Update (tests show no tears)

Samuelsson out for a few games; Holmstrom to have cortisone shot by Ansar Khan Friday March 28, 2008, 12:01 PM Update from Friday's morning skate: Tests on Mikael Samuelsson's groin revealed no tears, damage or other problems, coach Mike Babcock said. Considering groin injuries usually take 10 days to two weeks to recover from, Samuelsson might be out the rest of the regular season. "I don't know how long it is. Every time I tell you guys on a groin there's no problem, it's 10 days later the guy comes back,'' Babcock said. "So if you want to say 10 days then I can back it up.'' Tomas Holmstrom will have a cortisone shot today in an effort to decrease the pain in his lower abdominal region. "All the tests were really good, but he doesn't feel good,'' Babcock said. Dominik Hasek was on the ice briefly but it still trying to recover from a bad case of the flu. He won't dress tonight. "At this point, he's just not getting healthy,'' Babcock said. "He's got to get back to his conditioning level again,'' trainer Piet Van Zant said. "It's been going around, it's knocked a couple of people on their behinds.'' Darren McCarty will play on a line with Mark Hartigan and Dallas Drake, who returns after missing two games with a bruised sternum. Drake will be honored in a ceremony before the game for playing in his 1,000th game on March 11. Valtteri Filppula (sore groin, knee) is back in the lineup and will start the game on a line centered by Johan Franzen that also includes Jiri Hudler. That leaves Pavel Datsyuk-Henrik Zetterberg-Dan Cleary and Tomas Kopecky-Kris Draper-Kirk Maltby as the other lines.

From Red Wings Corner: -- Dominik Hasek won't play tonight because of the flu. He practiced, but left the ice early. Jimmy Howard will back up Chris Osgood. -- Tomas Holmstrom (abdominals) had tests yesterday that were negative, meaning good news on his injured midsection. He did not, however, practice with the team today. His return date is unknown.-- Dallas Drake (chest) will return to the lineup tonight.

The Red Wings first playoff game is April 10th. Babcock said that in an interview earlier this week on MLIVE.

3/22 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 1

14 is only for WOW viewers. 900 or 901 for Comcast (and you have to have digitial).

Another favor. If it does finally show up on 900 or 901 on Comcast, please report. I've resorted to watching the little box on the Centre Ice page. Thanks.

Remember that in the Detroit area the game will be on FSN plus. I believe Babcock said on Thursday night that Dom would be in net tonight.

    "Are you in"

There has been a billboard on 94 coming into the City for the last two weeks that has "Are You In" and today's date on it. I couldn't figure out what it was.
  15. http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/ Looks like a curveball or two in tonight's lineup for Detroit. Derek Meech will definitely play forward tonight, according to coach Mike Babcock. Why there's a need for him up front isn't as clear. Aaron Downey will be in the lineup. So will Darren Helm. That means that one forward who played in Sunday's game in Columbus will be absent tonight, but when asked which forward, Babcock declined to name one. It might be that a veteran will be given a night off to rest a lingering injury. -- Babcock did say that Brett Lebda and Chris Chelios will play tonight, making Andreas Lilja a healthy scratch. Babcock said yesterday that those three will battle for the third defense pairing in the playoffs. -- Tomas Holmstrom did battle drills at the morning skate and said afterwards that he felt great. What Holmstrom can't do well right now is straight-ahead skating (insert punch line here). His abdominal strain still lingers. Holmstrom had hopes of returning to the lineup Thursday night in Nashville, but that seems out now. Saturday in Columbus would be his earliest return.

3/19 Morning Skate: Filppula out (groin)

No, Flip has the leg injury. He's missed a couple of practices, but no games with it.

3/19 Morning Skate: Filppula out (groin)

I guess that would make sense. Hasn't he been kept out of practice recently because of a leg injury? The posting does say it may be to rest a player with a nagging injury.

  19. http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/ Hasek's back is sore, will rest Thursday Dominik Hasek left today's practice early, experiencing soreness in his back. Hasek won't start Thursday's home game against Dallas -- Chris Osgood will -- and coach Mike Babcock said that he didn't know if Hasek will be available for back-up duty or if they'll have to recall Jimmy Howard from Grand Rapids. Hasek said that he might be ready for Thursday's game, if not then he said that he wants to be sure that he's ready for Saturday afternoon. Hasek said that he left the ice early to get some treatment. Babcock said that Hasek will start Saturday's game. The netminder hurt his back in the second period against Nashville, Sunday, in a play that involved Radek Bonk. Also from today's practice ... -- Defenseman Andreas Lilja was home sick. He will not play Thursday night with Brett Lebda skating instead. Lebda was a healthy scratch, Tuesday. "I didn't have to make a decision," said Babcock. -- Valtteri Filppula sat out today's practice to rest his sore thigh. He'll be in the lineup Thursday. -- Mikael Samuelsson had a froggy voice after being cross-checked in the throat by James Wisniewski in last night's game. Samuelsson practiced and is good to go in tomorrow's game.

Wisniewski received a match penalty for cross-checking Detroit's Mikael Samuelsson in the face on Tuesday night. Wings/Rangers in Yankee Stadium?

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...ill_be_pla.html Chelios says Wings will be playing at Yankee Stadium next season by Ansar Khan Monday March 10, 2008, 2:32 PM Wings defenseman Chris Chelios claims the Wings will be playing the Rangers in that rumored outdoor game at Yankee Stadium next season. "I heard Detroit's playing,'' Chelios said after practice Monday. "Awesome, to be part of the last event at Yankee Stadium would be something special.'' There is no official word from the Wings or the NHL. The league is reportedly considering the Bruins as a possible opponent for the Rangers, if that game were to take place. The game, if it materializes, could be on Jan. 1. That's when Pittsburgh played at Buffalo this year in the first outdoor NHL game in the U.S. "Not an exact date,'' Chelios said. "I was talking to someone (who) mentioned that it might be a done deal already. I hope it is, anyway.''
