    Hossa's back is "tight"

Hossa's back seemed fine enough today when he scored the second goal at training camp. McCarty scored the first. He was joking with Datsyuk quite a bit. Can't wait to seem him tomorrow again.

    Red Wings Fan Fest

I went to the season ticket holder fan fest this morning and enjoyed it. The only active Red Wiing we saw was Kopecky -- he spoke for about half an hour. He talked a lot about Hossa and how excited Hossa was that the Wings made an offer. Steve Yzerman and Jim Nill also talked earlier with Ken Daniels. Pretty well every part of the Joe was opened and you could tour the locker room, Olympia Room and the press box. Lots of games being played on the rink (especially for the kids). We also had our pictures taken with the Stanley Cup. You couldn't touch it but they had it set up so you could pose in front of it and volunteers would take your photo with your camera. Best part is we left with Steve Yzerman's autograph. I do think that Holmstrom was going to speak to the second group.

Hossa arrives in Detroit on Friday

Here's a little more from the Wings' website: “We’ve known each other for a long time,” said Kopecky of the Red Wings’ big free agent acquisition. “We grew-up about five minutes from each other. We’re really good friends. I have lots of great memories of him when he was still playing in Trencin (Slovakia) and I was still a young guy. "I’ll pick him up on Friday from the airport and he’ll stay at my house. We’re really good friends and I think that will help especially for a new guy coming into a new environment and everything. I’ll do my best to help him.” The Wings signed Hossa to a one-year contract on July 1. “He called me right after he spoke to Kenny (Holland),” Kopecky said. “ It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon when he told me that Detroit had got him an offer, and I told him what I think. I told him when he was ready to sign with Detroit or somebody else to call me right away. He did and he gave me the great news. “After the finals, he said he’s so excited to play in front of our D – Raffi and Nick, and Kronner. He’s really offensive and really competitive. I think he’s anxious to play good hockey. Here, every time he played, he liked our puck-possession and our style of play. He loves it.”

Leafs to trade McCabe to Florida

http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Hockey/20...444766-sun.html McCabe Waiting For Bonus from Mike Zeisberger and Terr Koshan of the Toronto Sun, Whatever the case, a source close to McCabe said last night the veteran defenceman would not change addresses for at least another couple of weeks. “(Bryan) isn’t going anywhere until Sept. 1, at the earliest,” the source said. “That’s the date (he) gets his $2-million US signing bonus from Toronto. According to the source, the Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and New York Rangers are among the teams McCabe would consider, although the Rangers might be out “because they’ve already signed everybody.” Ian Pulver, McCabe’s agent, said nothing is confirmed as of yet. “We continue to work with the Leafs to resolve this situation,” Pulver said in an e-mail last night.

Former Wings video coach Woodcroft to SJ

Wings hire MSU's McKitrtrick as Woodcroft's replacement Posted by George James Malik July 24, 2008 09:38AM A note from the Livingston Daily tipped me off to this little tidbit from the NCAA: July 23, NCAA.com: Michigan State hockey coach Rick Comley has announced that Damon Whitten will join the Spartan staff as the Director of Hockey Operations. He replaces Keith McKittrick, who joined the staff of the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings earlier in the month. Whitten, a Spartan letterwinner from 1998-2001 and an alternate captain as a senior, has coached not only as a graduate assistant for the Spartans, but also as an assistant at Wayne State and Alaska- Anchorage. In his role at MSU, Whitten will be in charge of all facets of the Spartans video operations, as well as all team travel, alumni relations, and will serve as a liaison with the Blueline Club.

    2008-09 NHL Schedule Released

http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/ Sked will come out today Posted by George James Malik July 10, 2008 08:11AM The Detroit News's Ted Kulfan reports that the NHL's 2008-2009 regular season schedule will be released today. That should end all speculation as to whether the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks will take part in a "Winter Classic" on New Year's Day, 2009.
  25. http://lightning.nhl.com/team/app?articlei...mp;service=page TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have hired former NHL goaltender Mike Vernon as special assistant to the vice president of hockey operations today, owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie announced. Vernon’s duties will be to assist in hockey-related matters and to provide guidance to the team’s goaltenders. “The Tampa Bay Lightning are thrilled to add a former Stanley Cup Champion to our staff,” vice president of hockey operations Brian Lawton said. “Mike’s past experience and knowledge will be a true benefit to the organization and it will be critical to us as we continue to make changes within the team to improve it.” Vernon, a five-time NHL All-Star who retired in 2002 after a stellar 17-season NHL career with Calgary, Detroit, San Jose and Florida, captured the Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989 and again with Detroit in 1997. He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1997 after posting a 16-4 record and 1.76 goals-against average in the playoffs for the Red Wings. A native of Calgary, Vernon, 45, holds Flames goaltending records for games played (526), wins (262), minutes played (29,649), playoff games (81), playoff minutes (4,773) and playoff wins (43). While with the Red Wings he shared the William Jennings Trophy with Chris Osgood in 1996 after the pair combined for the NHL’s lowest goals-against average. Vernon was drafted 56th overall by the Flames in 1981 and played three seasons for the Calgary Wranglers of the Western Hockey League. He was added to the roster of the Portland Winter Hawks in the 1983 Memorial Cup Series and his performance helped Portland become the first team from outside Canada to win the Cup. He was awarded the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the outstanding goaltender for the series. After turning professional, he spent most of the next three seasons in the minors before being promoted in January, 1986. That season he helped the Flames to the Stanley Cup Finals before falling to the Montreal Canadiens. He remained in Calgary until 1994, when he was traded to the Red Wings. After eight more seasons divided between Detroit, San Jose, Florida and Calgary again, he announced his retirement on September 13, 2002.
