The most annoying part of that clip is the fake-concern hand-wringing after the clip. "Especially with that sport." I know we can't expect anything different in the U.S., but still.

Brilliant.

...But not before offering salvation and absolution of sins to all in the arena. Hail Crosby! Seriously, though, I can't believe this is still being debated. And let's not forget that Jacques Lemaire is the man who popularized the Trap. He is not a good man.

I do love how Hasek sometimes thinks he's a soccer goalie instead of a hockey goalie. That was vintage "don't come in my 6-yard box or I'll take ya out" there. I enjoy people who do things unconventionally, and Dom has always been one of those.

Seriously. I dislike Bettman as much as the next guy, but some of the things he gets blamed for are quite ridiculous.

Good post, Izzy. Long live the Onion.

Ha, I can always tell when the Wings have won when I log on, because the GD thread is inevitably about 200 posts shorter than after a loss. Not that I'm complaining. Well done, boys.

I agree, but at least this will be more palatable. 8 games against each opponent really dampened rivalries instead of igniting them. This will at least make each divisional game a bit more meaningful.

Seriously.

Anyone else think Gordie Howe is a little money hungry?
Shockwave180 replied to WingNutt's topic in General
I understand your point, WingNutt, but as others have said, you can't compare players from that era to this, either in statistics or in money. If a multi-gazzilionaire NHL retiree from the last ten years were plastering his face everywhere, it might raise more eyebrows. But Howe was unfortunate to be the best player of an era in which financial nirvana was nowhere in sight. -
I'm about to eat turkey, and that's not something I'd like to contemplate.

I'm not worried about this organization from a GM/Player standpoint. I'm more worried about this franchise from a PR perspective. They've taken fans for granted for a while now, and it's started to come back to haunt them. As has been mentioned in other threads, the PR is terrible, the ticket prices are unreasonable, and the customer service (see ridiculous web site and the laughable Red Wings World) has been a joke. The Wings are going to have to get smarter to keep fans coming. The other Detroit franchises are popular now, and sellouts are no longer a guarantee; the Wings haven't adjusted. From a player standpoint, we'll be fine, more or less.

Great game by the Wings (although the PP left a little to be desired). Ozzie, obviously, continues to play well. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The sad thing is that hockey has watered itself down almost as much as NASCAR, but with none of NASCAR's growth in popularity. It's really the worst of both worlds.

I understand your frustration, but let's try that in post-Third Grade mode.

Yes, the hate that has lain dormant for the last few years is finally returning. Kill, kill, kill! :battle:

Isn't that redundant? Couldn't help myself. The f-bomb craze on here is getting old.

N O T H A P P E N I N G Sorry, I needed a creative way to say it. I just don't see this one having any legs at all.

Only a team that has been consistently dominant during the regular season for fifteen years would have fans complaining in the midst of a nine-game winning streak. Honestly. We've been hoping Datsyuk will score more goals for five years now. Datsyuk is not primarily a goal-scorer. He's just not. He's a set-up man. And he's one of the best. When will we learn this? He's John Stockton, Zetterburg is Karl Malone. Or something like that. Man, typing that made me feel old.

This team is just spectacularly solid right now. Not much else to say, really.

Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?
Shockwave180 replied to BringHomeTheCup!'s topic in General
I think it's a bit rich that people like us who've never scored and will never score an NHL goal in our lives (except in our most fantastical dreams) can sit here and call a guy who scored 372 of them a bust. Lindros didn't ask for the hype, nor can he be faulted for the concussions that ruined his career. Is he a HOFer? Not quite. But "bust" is a ridiculous tag. -
Nice to win a shootout for a change. I still hate it, though. We really didn't deserve two points tonight with our third period performance; a draw would've been a fair result in my opinion. But well-done Ozzie; again, if there's gonna be a shootout, we better win it. And we did.

This is classic "mountain out of a molehill" reporting. Of course, I'm biased because I've met Schneider and he was incredibly nice. But still, this is a nothing story. And Anaheim is far from done. Honestly, why do people who've followed hockey for any length of time write teams off in early November? The season is incredibly long, people, and as long as you get in the playoffs, you've got a shot.

Anyone notice the white team's guy trying to kick out with his skate while he's in the middle of the blue pile?
