Generally, I dislike the template sites that MLB and the NBA have implemented. I loved the maverick days of the mid-to-late nineties, when you never knew what you were gonna get from team to team. Best example: In 1999, the Yankees' official homepage had a self-starting MIDI of Bob Shepherd saying, "Welcome...to the official website...of the New York Yankees." As dated as it is classic. But as you've already said, the Wings official site has always been one of the worst designed, least informative, and seldomly updated in pro sports. In fact, I think it's one of the main contributing reasons LGW became so popular in the first place. Matt's always been running laps around the Wings' "official" webmasters.

Why? Because he refuses to blame the refs for our elimination? And I don't notice a CS tag on your byline either. Sandman, I've got nothing against you at all, but you're demonstrating the same lack of class that you complain endlessly about. I'm disappointed at the way we lost too, but let it go.
-
Sorry, Legionairre. The board is just a tad emotional right now. Conspiracy theories are garbage. But so is Bettman.
-
I didn't realize Bettman was the commissioner in 1967.
-
Sandman, you're giving us a bad name. He's absolutely right. You are whining. Congrats, Zamboni. I hate your team passionately, but you won the cup and we didn't.
-
Of course. Look, there's two levels of "deserving," in my opinion. There's the simple Balance of Play level, and then there's the Moral Class level. While the Ducks had no business winning on the latter, it's only the former that counts in sports. They were the best team because they were aggressive and opportunistic. Again, I don't like it any more than you. I have to actually deal with these fans for the next year.
-
What part of "They created their own luck" wasn't clear? I never said they won simply because of bounces. I said that they created mistakes by the opposition by being faster and more aggressive. And yes, by being utter twats. I don't like it any more than you.
-
They deserved it because they were relentless. Sure, they got lucky at times, but it was usually because of their aggression. Classless aggression, but aggression nonetheless. They made their own breaks.

Guys, I'm not singling anybody out and I know this is an emotional time, but this thread is the whiniest and most pathetic I've seen in five years on this board. I've come to hate the Ducks as much as anybody over the last eight weeks (heck, living in SoCal, I've disliked them longer than most,) but to say that they only won because of lucky bounces and refereeing decisions is absurd. Yes, Pronger is an unspeakable word. Yeah, the Niedermayers took cheap shots. Yes, Perry is a ****. And you know what? They won. And yes, they deserved it. Scoreboard. End of story. And unfortunately, they're not just going to disappear anytime soon. Since the new ownership group took over last year, they've become one of the best-run organizations in hockey. They may not repeat next year, but they're going to be a force for a while. Sorry, but the Ducks are here to stay.

Wow, I just scrolled through that bloodbath. Great matchup. Between DaKine's blood-smeared Wilson and Glasgow's renegade apostrophes, you guys really had a good scrap. Now, off to the dressing rooms with both of you. And Glasgow, way to keep your head. What? Oh!

So, we met this Schneider guy before Game 6 last Tuesday... I'm on the far right. Also pictured: My best bud James and his Dad. [attachmentid=438] Poor guy. He was very gracious and nice.
-
My goodness, what an ugly bunch. Great team though, can't deny that. And Glasgow, seeing as we still lead you 51-41 in all-time Scottish titles, it's still us who "welcome the chase."

Ha! That brings back memories of LGW circa 2003, when a little-known poster named SouthernWingsFan first broke onto the scene. Little did we know he'd become the rockstar he is today. Seriously, as a fan of almost every sport known to man, I've seen so many fansites come and go since I first stumbled onto LGW in 1999. That this site not only still exists but continues to improve every year is a a real testament, Matt. Congrats on another year. As the Beatles once said, "It's getting better...A little better all the time."

Oh man, don't get me started on Lloyd Carr. The reason I and so many other UM fans call for his head every year is because he and his staff get consistently outcoached and out-gameplanned when they run up against a fast, elite team (Ohio State, USC, etc.) He wins games in the snow against mediocre Big Ten opponents using a very one-dimensional system, but the system breaks down in big games. Babcock, on the other hand, has shown a great ability to make in-game and in-series adjustments. He's gotten the Wings to buy into his physical, hard-nosed approach. And unlike Carr, he made his team to overachieve this year.

<smartarse> San Jose's in the South? That's news to me. </smartarse> Seriously, though, this does not look like a good day for Nashville hockey. I hate their team, but I do feel for their fans. They have a good core of die-hards, they just can't generate enough widespread appeal.

I think they should build the new arena in Northville. Just throwing that out there.
-
Well, I was there, and for two periods, we had nothing to cheer about. Flat, non-physical, listless. The third period was breathtaking. We had a real chance to tie the game late. Disappointing, but a great season nonetheless.

Thanks for another great season, Matt!

That's tasteless, dude. Not necessary, and not even funny. -

Great period, but I have a bad feeling those missed PP opportunities are gonna come back to bite us. Hope I'm wrong. Great goal by Lilja. -
Our goalie's GAA is greater than 0.00? Trade him. Now. What? "Trade Deadline?!" What in Satan's Hell is that? Osgood Forever!!!!!!

Trying to scare up a couple of tickets for tonight's game

Yeah, the cheapest seats retailed for $71, so I don't think you'll find anything below $80. -
Next time, try to use even more exclamation points. They'll make your already-brilliant statement that much more eloquent.

Some justice and some balls by the NHL (finally). He's lucky it wasn't two.

Never gets old, does it?
