i dont understand why all you guys want detroit to get a heavy weight? in the last while our team has been successful without one. we had mccarty who would drop but i wouldnt call him a heavyweight and we have maltby who is nasty but doesnt drop them a lot. we have drake who plays a gritty game. if you want to see fights why dont you become a leafs fan or something.

this is a pretty pointless argument if you guys are seriously irked about who might make the 13th forward/7th defenseman. the lines are pretty much set... any of these guys pushing for a spot won't play a whole lot. its not like we only have 3 forward lines and 2 defense pairings.

yeah, its disgusting. :nonono: listening to leaf home games... it gives me shivers just thinking about it :puke:

those look amazing... what did chris parnell say in hotrod? "If thats the boner police, i demand a lawyer!"

who are you? Brian Burke talking about Todd Bertuzzi? enough man love already.

i agree. i think he still has a decent career ahead of him. i guess teams are just trying to widdle him down to the lowest possible contract.

great post. for anyone who is wondering why blackhawks did this, take a look. the main point is that the blackhawks have brought in a lot of offensive players during the offseason who will (they are hoping) put up more points than vrbata. since they think vrbata won't have as big of an offensive role this year, they needed to get rid of him. they brought in kevyn adams who is a real character player. brings energy and plays a great defensive forward role. He will fit better on the 3rd line that Vrbata would have for sure.

you had a very good post and i've highlighted a key point. every other thread on this site is like "OMG OUR TEAM IS WEAK WE NEED GRIT!!!" and yes, i agree we could use some size, grit, toughness, etc. but we will make it guys. id say top 2 in the west easily. and now we are all discussing danny markov who plays an intimidating game and everyone is saying "OMFG 4 MIL!?!?! TAKE A HIKE!" and i agree that 4 million dollars is too much money for an unnecessary addition (we have more than enough defensemen, IMO) but if you want a tough a player, you gotta pay the money. Now I'm not saying that 4 million dollars is the price nor is Markov the player, but you have to pay to get quality hockey players (there are several exceptions to that statement) . Another thing I've seen on this discussion is that some people are praising his physical play, overrating him, while others are under estimating what he brings to the ice. he is just a very reliable defenseman who will shut players down, move the puck and make the odd big hit. he's aggressive. by no means is he a powerplay type player. it just bothers me that people are all over the map on the judgements.

Besides Canada, what country produces the best hockey players?
#1redwingfan replied to a topic in General
yes i would agree with you that russia used to dominate its fair share of the NHL, but this was a while back. this was when goaltenders had more patience than skill (who would stay in net that long when they are that bad, i do not know) and with all the passes, the tenders never stood a chance. Currently you see a lot of swedish players starting to take over. a couple years ago it was forsberg, now its lidstrom, zetterberg, sundin has always been strong, alfredsson, ohlund is a good defensive defenseman, lundqvist, etc. i have a feeling that USA is going to be the new the trend though. it started to get stronger with drury, gomez, J. blake, and all of the young players they are producing now is amazing. the two johnsons, peter mueller or whatever his name that got drafted by PHX. although, canada will always be the strongest hockey country -
i dont like your attitude, mister!

I'm pretty sure when he was allowed to play in the OHL a year early, everyone noticed. EDIT: forgot to mention, i went to an oshawa generals game i think it was 2 years ago now. i think it was his 2nd year in the O and he looked big compared to most guys out there, and he was working the puck very well on PP. With that being said, he's obviously not as good as Crosby was and he will never be as good as Crosby is (I guess its up to debate, seeing as JT has never played a game in the NHL) but he isnt as dominant. and as for the Dailge comment, i highly doubt this kid will fail in the NHL. (I make the Crosby comparison because he is the next up-and-coming star since Sid in Canada.)

yeah they do

I heard that the owners didn't want to spend over 42 mil. Just something to take into consideration

i agree he would be good in detroit, but i disagree about him having size... even if he has "size", its not like he uses it all that often.

Jonathan Toews probably

these ones look like cheap rip-offs of the old ones, IMO.

i totally agree with you. i was checking out their roster the other day because im pretty sure toronto is trying to dump raycroft so they can have Toskala-Clemmensen as their duo. and i knew PHX was under the min. cap so i thought raycroft and kubina(big salary) for someone... but honestly, who would the leafs take. PHX has doan, jovanovski and morris who are noteworthy but they all have big salaries (they need to keep those salaries to try and get over the min. cap point.) so i was looking and past those three players, they are garbage. even the LEAFS wouldnt take the crap on that roster EDIT: i guess my leaf theory wasnt accurate... but i still think even with Aebischer as their tender (upgrade from Cujo IMO) they will finish in last place.

thanks for that post, i was starting to wonder if redwings fans were giant ******* and couldnt even stand to read red font... that would be disgraceful

i definitely agree with you. i was just thinking outloud
-
yeah. and marian is also a playoff under-achiever lol

we also signed ference who has had some NHL experience and could most likely fill in Lilja's spot with ease. If we trade Lilja and 2nd or the 3rd rounder we could probably just upgrade him so that instead of our 5th or 6th defenseman being our scapegoat (Lilja), he could be our unsung hero who never gets the praise he deserves(The upgraded Dman)... just a thought

why whats wrong with it whats the max for a sig

I'm pretty sure he won't retire unless no one signs him... he wants to play pretty bad. He was on the panel on TSN a bit towards the end of the season and he was always trying to sell himself, saying he'll play for league minimum and crap like that... so i cant see him going unless no one wants him (which looks like that will happen, too bad for JR)
