I just hope we sign someone today. I hate when players wait for half the summer to decide. Also, disappointed we're out on Ehrhoff. Boyle just isn't good enough to be the guy to save our defense. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

Actually Z will be healthier than in year this season. And with more talent Datsyuk to share the load Datsyuk hopefully won't be hurt as much. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

To be fair, none of our scorers played enough games to get over 50. If you look on their pace, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Alfredsson, Franzen, etc. all would have cleared 50 easy.

I think they're just trying to show that they have options. Maybe. I hope.

I think you're wrong. Weather is one of those things that is crucially important to almost everyone on the planet. It's one of the basic considerations of where to live. Just because they grew up in cold areas doesn't mean they like it. I grew up in Michigan, and have lived here for 28 years. I'd leave in a heartbeat if I could. They can play ice hockey indoors in a warm climate and have way more to do than anywhere in Michigan. The only attraction of Michigan is if any of them were big hunters or outdoorsmen. So y

And for the record, it gets more than "a little cold" here, haha. The only perk to coming to the Wings is the organization. The area just isn't that impressive to people who've lived elsewhere. Now, the organization is a big perk if someone is considering their long-term career, but these are young athletes. They want to get paid, party and sit on the beach.

Just read on Reddit that we're prepared to offer Boyle a two year, $5+ contract. Then perhaps scoop up Erhoff. Seems like the priorities are backwards on that one, although Boyle is a righty.

I guess I just don't underestimate Bowman anymore. Every year we think there will be cap trouble, and they respond by letting low or mid tier players go and replace them with cheaper guys. Kane and Toews asked for 12 with no intention of getting 12. They are just raising the ceiling for superstars. They'll get around 10.Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2 Also, I disagree that Buffalo has a strong core. Myers isn't that good and he's on the block. They have some good draft picks but that hasn't helped Edmonton, so I don't hold out hope for that strategy.Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

There's no way Kane ever leaves Chicago. Not until he is 38. He's central to their core. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

No way this is true. No one would pay that much for Myers. Myers is a project. Never lived up to potential and has struggled mightily to be even a decent defenseman. There are much better options. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

While I sympathize with Euro Twins, let's keep this on topic. It would be amazing if we secured both Ehrhoff and Niskanen. I know we'll likely see Ericsson and Kronwall together, but I like the idea of Kronwall and Smith. They looked good together and I think it helps Smith develop better. Kronwall-Smith Ericsson-Niskanen/Ehrhoff Dekeyser-Sproul/Oullett/Marchenko That would be a very good defense.

Crime or not, who would want to move from San Jose to Detroit? Michigan winters are brutal and long. If I were Thornton I would want to play for a southern team, or at least a sexy cold town like NYC.Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2 The reality is, wherever you live in the metro area, its just not attractive to many people. We could waive Kindl, too. What's the cap punishment for that? I would think someone would take him for a 5th rounder. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

That was my point. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

Is it that shocking? Yandle has been on the block for years. There is clearly some reason he hasn't moved yet. That asking price could be why.
-
Why is no one asking why a team who wants to take on bad contracts is buying out a player like Ehrhoff? What's the story?
-
That's exactly how we would use him, too, so... Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah, Lang helped. I'm surprised Rafalski's signing is not being considered a big signing. He may have been aging but he was still a blockbuster signing as one of the best defenders in the league. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

NHL Draft 2014: Rounds 2-7 **MOD WARNING POST 51**
VM1138 replied to Datsyukian-Deke's topic in General
Most teams don't get better by trading in the draft. That's what free agency is for. I don't know anything about these kids Holland drafted but they replenish our center prospects. Holland can't magically make this a better draft, and everyone seems pretty high on Larkin. Draft day is the worst day to complain, because no one has any idea how these kids will pan out in 5 years. But drafting three centers helps increase the chances that one of them turns out to be good. -
Except that Alfie is a bonus. They're not saving room or waiting for him at all. They explicitly said they'll wait til they see if he can play before making a decision about him. This literally has no negative angle. They'll sign whoever they want and fit him in later. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

Pittsburgh just got a little worse, I think. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
-
No, everything I've read said they are moving forward regardless, and that they will figure out the Alfie thing after. They will fix the team first, thrn see where he fits.
-
Every year people gleefully predict cap hell for a number of teams, yet it never materializes. It's almost like (most) GM's know what they're doing.
-
I understand the concern to a point, but Niskanen wasn't a Cheechoo. He was a very good defenseman for years, who has been improving each year, and had a breakout season. It's not like he came out of nowhere. He is the age where defensemen usually break out. If there was any player and age to take a risk, it's Niskanen. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2

Let's not forget that Suter actually wanted to come to Detroit, but the wives and Parise signing forced his hand last minute.
