I thought we gave up on McCollum? The Wings dony have any connection with him anymore I didn't think. I suppose they could always just sign. new contract if he plays well.
-
Legace is loved? Detroit is usually really hard on goalies. Ozzie and Hasek are the only modern ones Detroit appreciates. And even they were treated like garbage at times.
-
If Holland retains some salary in a trade, does that still count against he cap?
-
Ericsson is coming back very soon I guess. They could theoretically call Nyquist up I think until he gets off LTIR, but apparently they don't feel the need. EDIT: But it's a moot point anyway since no one will claim Tootoo.
-
Legace is far too unstable to handle the ups and downs of a sports broadcast.
-
Yeah, I'm not so sure Mantha is the "real deal." Doesn't everyone tear up the juniors?
-
Apparently there's some dispute about this. The AP and the beat reporters are disagreeing over where Tootoo will end up if he's not claimed. Like others have noted, we will still have one too many players for Nyquist to come up even if Tootoo is claimed or goes to GR. I'm not sure what this move is about, unless Franzen is about to go LTIR. In which case, Nyquist probably wouldn't play tomorrow, but that's not to say he's not going to play in the next couple of games. Holland-speak is a tricky thing.

I agree that we need help on defense. Sure, I'd like to see this team grow, but that will take years. In the meantime, we can bolster them with a UFA or a trade. I don't know who or how. But we definitely need more "real" depth on D. Sort of like how we're "deep" at forward, but only in 4th line forwards.
-
So wait, the reason Emmerton was waived and brought back, and the reason Tootoo was waived and (apparently) coming back, is so they don't have to go through waivers later? So waivers is a one-time deal, and then players can go up and down at will? Otherwise, what sense does this make?
-
I didn't read it from a source, more hearsay, so it's likely untrue. Just thought it was a weird player to start a rumor over.
-
Rumor had it Holland turned down a trade offer for Tootoo a few weeks back. Either that was bogus or Holland screwed up and realized he had to let him go for nothing (possibly).
-
This team isn't bad enough to miss the playoffs. They're a better team in a weaker conference. Whether they win anything once there...
-
I don't think MacDonald's comments are unusual. It's stuff you always hear from players after losses. Anyway, good luck to him.
-
Flip never had consistency. Just like its too soon to judge Weiss, it's too soon to give Filppula the Art Ross trophy. He's playing in an easier conference now, too, remember. Hence why his performance is thus far better than previously. Let's see where he is later in the season.
-
He tends to be dry. Almost like a second play by play guy, but he's brand new to it. At least he can formulate a sentence unlike Murphy, Haha. He'll get better soon. He already looks more comfortable than he did a few weeks ago, and the natural storytelling comes with experience.
-
Because Weiss acknowledges that he can be better and is actively trying to turn things around. As long as they try I'll cut any player slack.
-
He is better at center. It's that he seems so damn cocky and fine with his pay when we all know he can do better if he tried.
-
They're going to be waiting because apparently Franzen didn't get the message if he's all defensive saying he's doing fine. He's just too laid back. We can excuse it if he's scoring, but he just doesn't seem to care.
-
That's how I feel. When did we stop going for the Cup every year? We have to have a long-term vision, I get that. But when you're always waiting for tomorrow's kids to miraculously become all-stars, you're missing out on chances to win here and now. For all the troubles with this team, the problems aren't un-fixable. We're tied for 2nd in our division and 6th in our conference early in the season. A good winning streak like most teams have and we could be on top. Tweak a few things while you can and win NOW.
-
Wow, two good chances in 13 games. Let's give him an extension right now. I'm not even a Franzen hater but this guy is delusional lately.
-
What is Babcock thinking? Didn't take long to break up that third line. Abdelkader and Cleary do not belong in the top 6. Do. Not. Belong. Is like to see us trade a prospect for an established A-lister in their mid-20s. Better to win now than pin your hopes on some kid or as-yet-undrafted player of the future. Not saying trade picks and prospects like no tomorrow, but two players and a couple of picks for a Norris-caliber defenseman would benefit us more than those prospects.
-
Please score more than two goals.
-
All right, people. Let's keep this about Varlamov. If it's going to be about abuse in general thus thread will ave to be moved. Also, keep the discussion from getting personal.
-
I paid extra close attention to Tatar tonight. I counted he had one turnover, one lost board battle, one won board battle, two near-assists (followed by a near-goal off of Abdelkader's first near goal) and an actual goal. Plus, he was playing the body and hustling, even on the backcheck. All in all, a really great night for him.

Maybe he misunderstood orders from Roy. Roy meant to illegally assault the opposing team.
