It's one thing to present an offer sheet to Flip, it's another thing for him to actually sign it. He's publically stated he wants to stay, so I'm not concerned. It's likely that offer sheets have already come his way.

My take is that Hossa got $7.4 million, which is $50,000 less than Lidstrom, so Lidstrom is still the highest paid player on the team and likely will be until he retires. It's possible that Zetterberg will surpass that, but unlikely.

The Cup is raised tonight. Wings 7-0.

What are the requirements for a player to get their name on the cup?
stillwater replied to Osgood=WIN!'s topic in General
First, the team must win 4 games in the Cup final, not two. Too many people getting ahead of themselves here. -
"how about everyone stfu and let the coach make the decisions about who starts in net. If babs deems ozzie fit to be in net instead of Hasek, it will come." Might just as well lock the thread, and shut down the forum, then we'll all have more time to await the coaches decision ... but I don't see how the coaches decision has anything to do with this discussion. A reasonable exchange of opinions and ideas, without personal insult seems to me what should happen on a discussion board. You don't like it, don't bother clicking on the thread. Good thing for everyone here, we have someone like you to dictate forum decorum.

The pressure in the all-star game must have been unbearable for Ozzie ... much worse than the 1998 playoffs, when he won 16 games, and the Cup. I'm not suggesting Ozzie take over the starters job, but I doubt anyone thinks Hasek is physically able to play 25 (or so) straight games in the playoffs, given his health and his age.
-
Why does Hasek get every game? Osgood was at least as good as him during the season and deserves a start. I'm not blaming Hasek, but there's no way he's that much better than Osgood at this point in his career that he somehow "deserves" to start every game.

I live in his hometown. He's here in his hometown trying to work out marital problems that originated shortly before he took a leave of absence from the Leafs about a month ago for "personal reasons". It doesn't take a genius to figure it out from there.

Sort of looks a bit like this year's defense, doesn't it? What's the point?

I think after posting this, ad nauseam in practically every thread today, that we get the fact that you don't support Ken Holland. He didn't get you the wunderkind that is Sergei Fedorov ( oh my lord!) and he didn't trade the future of the team for a guy like Marian Hossa, who he had no chance of signing, had he come here, given the impending expense of the next Zetterberg contract. Not to mention that there wasn't any way for him to match the ridiculous price in talent that the Penguins paid.
-
Right. Trading for Fedorov, who has 19 points all season as a #1 center was clearly the answer to all the questions.

Interesting take, but unfortunately your "freedom of speech" rights aren't taken into consideration when it comes to privately owned and operated web sites.

Multiple threads are a nuisance. But so are megethreads like the "pinned" deadline thread. It's difficult to sift through 72 pages of "information". This site has Moderators, allow them to do their jobs.

Name the last team to win a Stanley Cup based on players they aquired at the deadline.

Simply stop contributing to the multiple threads and they will quickly disappear.

Burke may be in charge of the enemy, but he's one of the brightest guys in hockey. I'd like to see him replace Bettman as the commissioner.
-
You're worried that the Wings didn't get Fedorov? He has 19 pts! Not 19 this month, 19 all year, and he's the Jackets #1 center. He's finished ... quit living in the past.
-
These two guys played together in junior at Prince George in the WHL. Quite a combo to have.
-
Konstantinov, and no one else comes close.

Bert is garbage @ $4 million. Penner is not worth $4 million.

What is this, like the 10th Mark Hartigan thread?

Management practically admits offseason mistakes?
stillwater replied to WingedWheels's topic in General
It's the same logic that says the Penguins should have signed Briere, Gomez, Drury and Bertuzzi and just let Crosby walk when he becomes a free agent because MAYBE they can win a cup. -
Management practically admits offseason mistakes?
stillwater replied to WingedWheels's topic in General
It's always interesting when people go to lengths to start a topic, express an opinion and then don't stick around long enough to defend said position. No one is admitting mistakes in the excerpt that started this thread. If the thread starter believes someone is "admitting mistakes" in the excerpt, please feel free to point them out. -
Why are we discussing Lilja vs Kronwall in the Forsberg thread?
