Good! Hate on haters...hate on! He is a very solid depth guy and the Wings would still be fine if he has to play in the #2 pairing. Remember, they didn't acquire Stewie until late in the season so it's not like the Wings will be absolutely devastated if he doesn't resign (even though I hope he does resign). Hopefully one of the rookies can step up in training camp and make things interesting. I really want them to attempt to convert Meech to forward so they can keep him. I like him better than Kopecky, although Kopay was getting slightly better right before his injury.

I tried to defend Sammy on HFboards, but I've come to the conclusion that a lot of people just NEED somebody to hate. With Lang gone, poor Sammy and Lilja are filling his shoes. The difference being, Sammy and Lilja are NOT Lazy. They may "suck" at times but they try and play hard and play for the team so I could never really hate them. I think Lilja is a great 6th defencemen, much much better than what most teams have on a 3rd pairing. I think Sammy is responsible defensively and pretty versatile. Do I think he belongs manning the point on the 2nd pp? Definitely not, but it's not Sammy's fault he's there. I'll admit I did curse his name more than a few times over the year, but that was mostly when he was on the pp, take him off and I doubt I say many negative things about him at all. Can't we go back to hating Lang, that was much more fun and something I actually support whole-heartedly!

Well, they're probably regretting all the drama from the past and want to be able to do business with Detroit. Surprised about the goalie selection, but the announcers are right. Regardless of who they picked it's not like we'll see them for another 4-5 years.

Are you referring to the bit about "My reign is short now"? I think he is referencing his physical play during the SCF. He is suggesting that voters may not see him as so gentlemanly because he hit Gary Roberts in the face. IMO he still is a gentleman because he was totally playing within the rules. That said, if Lidstrom doesn't somehow win at least ONE Lady Byng in his career I don't know what is wrong with the world. Lidstrom is the definition of Lady Byng, which I think is a very honorable award and any player winning it should be very proud. They also get money for winning it so even better!
