Interesting point, but statistically red is the most successful sporting colour in history. More teams who wear red have had success than any other colour. Don't know the exact figures but it is quite a substantial amount.

If two same-seeded teams reach the SCF who gets home ice? I understand that a higher seed will take home ice but say the Wings meet the Sens in the finals, who takes home advantage? Obviously 1v1 is Caps for winning the Pres, but 2v2? 3v3? etc...

Anyone know why Lids all of a sudden changed to the big visor? Always remember him not wearing one.
-
Newer guy to hockey, so he's always been a favourite of mine. It was a perfect way for him to leave Dallas. I hope the last few games will be similarly productive for him.

That picture of Ovie is awesome! I always thought he didn't really care about the whole colour co-ordination thing since he wore yellow laces with his Caps uniform (and it always clashed) but there he's all in red. Looks pretty sweet. Plus how much more intimidating is it to have a world class player skate at you looking like this... Ovie mirror

May be wrong but the Cup season, Helm was just thrown in at the deep-end come playoff time (no regular season games) and did well. Could still see some surprises. May be wrong about Helm though. edit: very very poor English

You can get yellow ones too, something to do with the lighting, but never seen any in NHL.

Depending on the last game against CHI, at the moment we're winning in all mini-series against the top 4 West teams (except CHI where it's tied if I'm not mistaken). Considering we haven't had a great year, this is promising now we're hitting some form. I'll take any but strangely not the Coyotes. Agree. It does say a lot when possibly our fittest player all season was Todd Bertuzzi!

Agreed. I think this year has been a healthy dose of humility of us. Can't just take things for granted.

Still smiling as well. Is there ever a time where he doesn't smile?! -
Western Conference Goalie Playoff Experience

Then comes our 'backup' Osgood GP: 129 W: 74 L: 49 GAA: 2.09 SV%: .916 If someone could check those numbers too it would be great as I may have made some mistakes. -
Cleary happens to be my favourite Wing so there will be some bias, but he's just stinking this season (as most other players are). I think he has the skill, step and obviously age to be better than Homer on his day. Not in front of the net though. But I don't think Z does well with those plays. He needs the skill players like when he and Dats used to take tape to tape passes without even looking. I like him with Flip and if Cleary gets going then I'd say throw him in as he can provide some second line grit whilst still having the skill (my biased opinion though!). That being said from the highlights that I saw he did well last night. Good overtime winner taking the middle of the ice.

Teams that Should Have Never Changed their Jerseys
Wing Across The Pond replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Ah right. But for a team that's made the Stanley Cup 2 years in a row, with that damn patch on it they obviously didn't see the other "logistical" dilemma -

I always thought that this was because when the retired Stevie Yzerman's 19 they retired his 'C' as well and so the Wings changed the side? Just assumed as all the other teams still have their letters on the left breast. -

Ah beat me to it! All I seem to ever remember from those films is Paul Kariya in the commentary booth at one point. On the topic of jerseys, you're lucky you don't watch British hockey: 1) it's pretty darn bad, 2) like most Euro leagues the jerseys are plastered with advertising! It ruins jerseys. -
Sorry to be picky but wasn't it 3 Cups for Ozzie? It just helps his case!
-
No kidding, if he stays for his career, keeps learning, maybe takes on a leadership role somewhere down the line there's no reason he couldn't. Although I think someone like Abdlekader is more of a born leader if you're going with youngsters (and a Michigan native).

Had a solid game, but at times Lilja looked like a man who has missed a year. Not knocking him as he's getting his stride and looking like he's really going to get back into it again (think how much video he must/could have watched in his time off and thought of improvements). But all around solid game. Also think Rafi's Olympic run did him some good, looks like a leader on every shift which, paired with Lids, means something good for our shaky defence.

Kovalchuk traded to New Jersey
Wing Across The Pond replied to Paul MacLean's Mustache's topic in General
This all just screams of an organisation doing ANYTHING to win a cup. And even if they do get him and win it all, it'll all collapse around them in the offseason. Its a case of, one cup now, none for the next decade. -
By this time it was Johnson, Fleury was awful as were the Pens in general. Its a joke though that the one reply that conclusively shows its a goal, is the one they don't use in the review. Did Toronto even have that angle? Or was that just the broadcasters own angle? If so the officials need all the angles so they can make a call.

The tingling sensation is the scariest bit. If it happened to me I'd be worried about some form of paralysis or loss of motor function. I really hope that doesn't happen. Get better Boyd! EDIT: SP

Yeah I agree. It's always seemed like Lids and Stevie were Captains on the ice, playing the sportmanship game and showing the others how to conduct themselves, whereas others were left to doing the talking in the locker room (apart from the Nashville game a few years ago where Stevie sure as hell spoke his mind on the ice!).

11/11 GDT: Red Wings 9 at Blue Jackets 1
Wing Across The Pond replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I know it's not the best of attitudes but, he stopped all but one shot. As long as the defence clear out the loose pucks in front then I don't care how bad his rebound control is. P.S. This is a victory post for the D men tonight. I still think Howard has a lot to learn. But at least he's getting there. -
It's amazing how that saying caught on. I just use it for everything I don't like. My housemate is lazy and she sucks.

Plus, just so as I can say, I never got to see the early years of Stevie (unfortunately) but I did get to see his final years and STILL feel like I had watched the guy through everything. He just seems to draw you in and never seems to disappoint. Truly great all around player, maybe even (and probably a little bias here) the best, complete player, to have played the game. He's what I would love my son to be.
