I tried not to as I thought it may seem a little wrong as I don't personally know the guy, but I just couldn't help it... he is too humble... too unassuming in his own legacy... and thoroughly an all around great guy. He deserves it.
-
And then he slashed them?
-
Exactly... the 1st liners shouldn't be covering mistakes made by 3rd liners, anyone's mistakes should be aired. It's their mistakes and they should try to make up for them. And the reason first liners like Dats, Z, Lids and Rafalski make their money is because they're indispensable. Lebda has now, unfortunately for him, become very much dispensable, because he can't even fulfil HIS OWN role.

You beat me to it! http://www.freep.com/article/20091106/SPOR...p-for-headaches

Much like Howard IMO. Consistently now I see Lebda as a guy who can't really do the basic very well and who looks like he's constantly thinking, "OK now I do this....". His drop passes are nowhere near where they're supposed to go. And then this causes his defensive partner to have to do too much on the play.

Realistically... me, and I'd do it for free to show that I can play better professional hockey than Bret. Ideally (and REALLY realistically)... Kindl or Janik as a stop-gap solution until something can be sorted.

That's ESPN for you! Doesn't really sound too promising.... 4 to 6 weeks. -
Williams out 8 weeks with fractured fibula

We haven't really got anyone to give away that will bring in a player of even decent quality I don't think... it will just be another role man. Will have to give up picks and a lower order guy if that's the case. Is there still anyone halfway decent in free agency? -
I sure hope so. It would be what we needed. And hope Williams gets better soon on that note too, he's not been too bad really.

It just gets worse doesn't it. Then again tonight just screamed why we don't need Bret Lebda. -
Yeah just something to get a spark going on at least one line other than the 4th. Plus (I know it was never really part of the question but) I'd throw Larsson into the mix, he won again last night with a good shut out. Plus more and more I'm liking that plain white helmet, old school but with the wing on the side. But back to the matter at hand, Homer has been impressing me in some games, but definitely not last night, but Burt to me has been consistent and looks sharp. With that I'd go Cleary - Datsyuk - Bertuzzi Williams - Zetterberg - Leino Holmstrom - Draper - Abdlekader May/Maltby - Helm - Eaves if not then Helm third line centre to get him some more minutes and keep the pressure. Then again it still mostly comes down to chemistry.

Five things: Cap, Father Time catching up to consistent Wings
Wing Across The Pond replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Are these things recycled year on year? We wont win because Osgood will have a mediocre regular season. He mustn't be very good as Yzerman and Babcock don't want him, I mean what are they thinking? They HAVE to choose their friend and teammate even though it could hamper their chances of a gold medal. JEEZ STEVE! In all honesty Helm, Lieno, Abby etc are getting on a bit... I bet they can just feel the knees going. And althought I'm a bit skeptical about him some of the time, Howard can bring it as a good solid backup (hopefully). Sorry if I confused with my mix of sarcasm and honest opinion. -
Great minds think alike... just realised as I had finished writing that I wrote pretty much the same thing

In a way I both can and can't see why people are likening this to McCarty vs Lemieux when Lemieux may well have been up for a scrap if given the chance. This noname goalie actually said "no" unlike Lemieux, plus had done nothing to deserve it (to my knowledge anyway, I mean from his actions/reactions he doesnt seem like the kind of guy it do much to anger people). If someone in a bar asked you for a scrap and you said yeah then fair game, nothing would REALLY come of it apart from a fight that would break up when it was over or the cops arived and both would get the same. If in this same hypothetical bar fight you distinctly said "No" to this other guys proposal then he gets jail time for assault. Why because they're on the ice does it have to be different... if they both go at it then they get their penalties/fines/whatever, since noname said no then action SHOULD be taken. My opinion.

My sentements exactly, although was going to say Getzlaf > Iginla as Crosby, for all his downfalls, is a great player. Plus with Brodeur its tough to put a goalie over any other player even if he is better. Just the way it goes I'm afriad.

The sad things was.. Lils was looking to have his good season last year. If he can get over this concussion an recapture the form he left off with... he could do well. HOPEFULLY. The other sad thing is... you cant really count on him to keep it going all year. But on topic, Dats is odds for points, Lids +/-, Franzen goals (cant see Z staying fit meaning Mule will get some 1st line time), strangely someone like Kronner having a great defensive year, and Lieno for rookie. I can just see Babs sitting Helm for a while... dont know why but then again... probably why I'm not a hockey coach.

Zetterberg not on list of 34 for Team Sweden?
Wing Across The Pond replied to hockey23's topic in General
As a Brit myself, I don't see that there's anyone else to support than Canada. I mean its the closest thing to us without having the American's thinking Columbus discovered Europe. Sorry to LGWers SOUTH of the border this time.... just it seems like your government things they own us. But then again thats not hockey.... so either Canada or USA Gold is good for me. Although will be supporting all Wings there, which means teams like Russia, Sweden and Finland if Flip plays. -
You recon any of those people can still skate? like Estevez? Would be funny to see. Although I think Joshua Jackson does some charity games... not too sure though

would Hossa stayed if we would have won the cup?
Wing Across The Pond replied to WingNutt's topic in General
no point thinking about it... he's gone and he served us pretty well. dany heatley = no -
Pierre McGuire = C3PO "Go away, nobody likes you" Best line, you can even see the players thinking it after every period.

Hank just looks tired. Plus Babs may have shaken up the lines a little too much, I dont like Huds on the 1st over Cleary when he's been doing so well with Sammy and Val (although those 2 and Helm will be good also). They just didnt do what they normally do, weren't patient and tried to force the openings. Whack Lilja back in there, in my opinion a very smart player just holding the puck behind his own net until its right to move out. Thats the way the wings play... pass, pass, pass, pass until somethings on. Didn't do that yesterday but took the quick shots.
-
agreed, Hank looks too tired and Drapes is too ineffective handling the puck. Yeah he still looks quick, physical and as ever good in the faceoff, but i think i saw him with about 3 or 4 giveaways last night. Just bump all the centres down one and get Pav back in. Plus dont play Huds on 1st over Cleary, just my two cents.
-
the thing thats great about them is that they'll still praise good play for road teams too... not just the Wings... classy as well as brilliant at what they do
-
just bought the playoff package untill end of june.... HD is very good quality. watching the winter classic as we speak!!!

Ovie always seems to lead with an elbow.... then again so does Kronner... and he sometimes leaves his feet so cant complain plus.... HOLY SH*T imagine Helm in 10 years... thats a good thought
