Should Datsyuk be named the next Captain?
Wing Across The Pond replied to adamlazzara's topic in General
When Stevie left they should have retired the C and just had three As. haha.... barring captain's injury has a team every actually had no captain but three As? -
its one of those things we'll never know... would have loved to see how Dom handled himself in a fight... what if he was just amazing lol

Im soccer in the UK if a referee makes a bad decision like that one... they get moved down a league... dunno if this could translate to this situation?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3979021 what you recon this means for the future of the sport in Nevada??

Still no... Lids makes more unnoticed plays than any Dman I've seen. Granted I dont get to watch much hockey but I've never seen a Dman make so many play-breaking pokechecks or dig out so many pucks from the boards or behind the net. Plus, over first 2 periods against Calgary last night, he was on fire.

What does it say about the wings when they played like crap all season

its all Hossa's fault -
IMO, 5 Things the Wings need to work on for next game
Wing Across The Pond replied to spyder's topic in General
with this... you're assuming that we're gonna dump someone in the crease on every line.... how predictable our play would become!! the reason they dont do this is to change it up a bit so opposition defence dont know how to defend immediately. Plus someone like Sammy on the first line wouldnt work fitness wise. He cant deal 20-25 mins a game. -
i think lebda has earned his spot this year over kronwall and stuart.... but i know its different in the playoffs... just wouldnt scratch him thats all

Just saw this when i checked out the highlights. It was pretty funny. watch the highlights at about 2:30 http://www.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?hl=true

Pavel Datsyuk is The Best Player In The World
Wing Across The Pond replied to KrazyGangsta's topic in General
As long as he trusts his eyes to Dr Rahmani I will too! But seriously yeah I think he's the best, and is always overlooked because the league think they can just give him the Selke or the Byng (which is still no mean feat) and he'll be happy and everyone will think he's got what he deserves but really he deserves to be seen as the best. -
Ok I don't quite realise why your having a go at me.... In case you didn't realise I think the Russian team and public are confident that they can win at the Olympics (which isn't the World Championships and as of yet, they haven't won an Olympic Gold). I understand you are in Russia watching the NHL but I was simply trying to say, as you mentioned, Russia has their own league, which I'm sure more people are focused on that the NHL. As for the UK we don't even have a half-decent league, so instead of watching it here, a lot more people watch the NHL. I think Russia will challange, never said otherwise. All I said was this is probably a reporter trying to relay how well players like Dats are doing to those back in Russia.
-
I think that seen as it's a Russian paper... they may just be trying to hype up their team before the Olympics. Wouldn't suprise me, since a lot of people in Russia are probably not aware of much that's going on in NHL, their press are probably trying to say "Our team is better this time around". That said I didn't see much of Fedorov due to being too young, but Dats has got moves that other players don't know are possible. I can't really give a valid opinion though.
-
I wouldn't mind Dats getting the C. When Lids retired on my NHL 09 they seemed to give it to Dats and thats what put the idea into my head.... although I know its a game but it just seemed to put the idea into my head. With regards Franzen/Hossa, should look at how many years Holmstrom has left in the tank... especially with a second hernia operation on the way. We may need Franzen in front of the net some time soon! (although Cleary has been good last couple of games when he's been there)

I think loosing people like Scotty Bowman and Todd McLellan had something to do with the poorer play this season. I think they should ask someone like Stevie to have a sort of unofficial role with the players much like Scotty did last year... try and get them fired up. Plus it would be great to see him more with the Wings again, not just as a suit.
-
haven't checked his stats at all... but from what i remember last few games Lebda is lighting the lamp a lot too.... maybe becoming a good partnership
-
Dallas was worse 2 periods of hockey I've seen in a long time... hopefully Hank's new contract will mean he'll be thinking less about signing and more about getting his game back on track but apart from that I don't know what's going to happen. Just seems like there isn't much desire. He NEEDS to go back to ZDH line and in all fairness Kopecky can't score, can't create chances... he's just a big body to intimidate but if that's the case I'd prefer Downey.
-
by any chance did Todd McLellen have anything to do with managing the goaltenders in his time here??.... or you recon Babbs got him to do everything?? Its just I'm beginning to see a correlation

I know the Wings haven't been to hot on defence this year, which is usually their strongest asset in my opinion, but does anyone else seem to notice the trend across pretty much the entire league. Out of all the games last night (20th Dec) only 3/12 games had less than 5 goals (Islanders @ Preds; Blue Jackets @ Coyotes; Hawks @ Canucks). I mean San Jose seem to be on fire this season and we managed to shut them out and put 6 past them. I was beginning to get worried about the amount we were conceding but now it seems to be in perspective. I just wondered what everyone else thought? p.s. we still need to improve on D

That and the fact that offensive talent has vastly improved over the last 10 years or so.
-
just think it'll be a waste come playoff time thats all. if he sits on a bench most of the season he might not be in the best shape/frame of mind for the postseason where he's got the speed and skill to cause real problems on that 4th line. but i get where you're coming from, all just opinions aint it.

TBH theres no reason some people, maybe Hossa or Z, wont take a pay reduce come contract signing time. I mean Hossa did it intially to come here when Pitts offered him big money. Maybe if he's successful here and enjoys him time, he'll want to stay and do what he can to keep other players too. I mean everyone's being saying what a classy guy he is, doesn't seem like the type to grab money with both hands.
