How is everyone missing the obvious here? promote Paek from GR (defensive minded coach) and let Blashill choose his own assistant to replace him... To those who were confused, Blashill handled the D, not the offense, Peters handles the offense...

first off - quality thread! This is one of the first ones I've seen here in awhile and one of the first ones, that subsequently I felt compelled to comment on. I think LA will be a one and done for one simple reason - Carter and Richards will eventually get back to their wild lifestyle ways and will become cancers... they caught lightning in a bottle with those two, because they were both humbled by their recent tradings (or double tradings) and being apart and therefore I genuinely feel that they both became model citizens under that scrutiny and played they way they're both capable of... with that said, a tiger doesn't change it's stripes and eventually having these two paired in a city like LA will catch up with them and they'll get right back to their partying ways (probably worse than before due to access in LA) Couple all of this with the potential loss of some key depth players in FA (Stoll, Penner) and some lesser depth players such as King and Fraser probably getting raises, along with the aforementioned contract situation looming with Quick and they could end up in cap hell very quickly, not to mention, much less deep... All and all, they had a hell of a season, got hot at the right time and got the most of their guys that will likely tail off... they may still be competitive in the near future, but I highly doubt this is the start of a dynasty and I'd even go as far as to say they should enjoy their cup, because they're probably not going to see another one for at least another decade... All and all though, you can't take it away from them and they earned it this year! and for that, I say congrats...

DISCLAIMER - I realize the many variables in this roster that are incredibly unlikely (Franzen being traded, Nick taking so much less, Parise AND Suter coming here for presumably less than they could get elsewhere, and that's just to name a few...) With that said, if the stars all aligned and some stardust fell, this is what my ideal 2012-2013 Detroit Red Wings team would be (also note this is not a line thread debate, re-organize those however you'd like): FORWARDS Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Zach Parise ($6.700m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.500m) / Paul Gaustad ($3.000m) / Danny Cleary ($2.800m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Darren Helm ($2.000m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($4.000m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($6.500m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Joey MacDonald ($0.550m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,787,500; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $512,500

Just wanted to point out that the boys in Big Rapids are going to be playing for the national championship against Boston College It's always great when one of our hometown teams get to play for the big prize... GOOD LUCK BULLDOGS!

Thanks for the heads up, correcting now!

Just saw a post game with Stamkos on NHL network and some jackass in the crowd was wearing a #19 Yzerman Lightning Jersey... I don't care if he's their GM, that's all kinds of wrong...

This is the quote that got me most excited - http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/09/red_wings_jakub_kindl_in_battl.html Now let's see if he puts his money where his mouth is, so to speak...

If the league wants to take away head hits, then don't punish a guy for protecting himself when a guy is about to run him and is going high... I have zero problem with what Marchand did... EDIT - added video for clarity... http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D5GN2cFZ1oMA&v=5GN2cFZ1oMA&gl=US

And this, I could agree with 100%... I just don't see how it warrants a suspension...

The physics to "clipping" and upending someone with a hip check, sending them head over heels, is exactly the same... Where's the confusion? It's not the intent I'm referring to - it's the physics of the hit How is Salo NOT responsible? He shouldn't have been that upright when coming in on a check to Marchand in the first place, UNLESS he was aiming to hit high, the guy has damn near 6 inches on Marchand... Once again, I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, I don't know how many times I can say that I don't think what Marchand did was right or very respectful, but I don't think Salo was by any means a victim here either and Salo could have easily prevented the outcome by getting lower... Salo is not generally a dirty player, but his form looks very incriminating there and I find it HARD to believe he was not purposely going high on that hit... As the old saying goes, use your head out there...
-
I don't think we'll see the ax fall on many more coaches, Arniel was really the last one on the block - Coaching changes are generally done for playoff implications and by this point of the season, the bottom dwellers are already out of the race, any other team that is still within contention wouldn't make sense to shake up the team at this point in the season, unless there are some MAJOR in-house issues somewhere else that we are unaware of... as already touched on, if anything, I would suspect front office heads are what are going to start rolling next...
-
Once again, I'm not saying what Marchand did was right, but it's no worse than a well timed hip check and if Salo had gotten low when delivering the hit, this wouldn't have happened, if anything he would have just landed on top of him... they both were at fault here and Salo is JUST as responsible for going head over heels on this one...
-
I never said what he did was right, I just don't think it warrants discipline... Neither party was innocent in the incident and it could have been avoided on both sides...
-
Before anyone else even chimes in with the thought too - Marchand didn't NEED to do this to protect himself, but if Salo wasn't so determined in creaming him, he could have moved or gotten low as well... He only got "clipped" because he was trying and determined to make a high hit...

If you think Bobby Ryan can be had for a 3rd liner and some picks, you need to get your head checked...

I once got in a fight at practice... It was a practice run for the 3 legged race at a family reunion... Grandma sure had a wicked left hook...

When people speak out against those with power, they get punished... even when what they are saying is true sometimes and needs to be said...

Smaller, less sandpaper to his game, often injured, 3m a year on his contact, for the next 2 years after this one... AND isn't very good defensively... Oh yea, and although it isn't Datsyuk, he's had some pretty good line mates... Also, as is OFTEN overlooked, Bert is liked by teammates and chemistry can NOT be discounted... No thanks.

Please explain how Jokinen wouldn't be a downgrade from Bert, please

It's really the only logical assumption...

Gleason is the only one I'd want, but they're gonna want more than I'd be willing to part with to get him... Also, I don't think we really need any of them... The only thing I'd like to see us get is a bonafide scorer, none of which any of them are...

Wings to host NHL Winter Classic within next 2 years
stevkrause replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
I personally would rather it be at Michigan, just for the history, but calling Comerica ugly? Come on... It's one of the best ball parks in baseball...
