fair enough - I agree, I respect the guys that are a little crazy as well, haha As for blocking shots, you SHOULD aim for your legs, but it doesn't always work that way... like I just said, I don't agree with hard caps whatsoever and want them removed from ALL levels of hockey, but more padding doesn't have to mean hard caps perfect example -
-
I was just referring to the amount of padding - not hard caps, if you look at my other posts, I agree 100% and am VERY against hard caps on shoulders and elbows... I just think the stuff Shanny wore are too ridiculous and dangerous to the player to be honest... you can be heavily padded, while not wearing "armor" so to speak...
-
yea... he's much more effective as a winger... Don't get me wrong either, I think there would be definite upgrades to Williams for the 3rd line center and if we could get a 1 for 1 swap for someone else and move Williams in the deal, I'd be all for it... I just don't see us moving him and I don't see any other moves making it worthwhile...
-
yea - it's those Douglas' and the old TPH (I think that was the brandname) that are brutal and don't belong in the game... I used to wear those when I played as a teenager, but it was a matter of going into a gun fight with a knife back then if you didn't - they need to remove them from junior leagues on up... and teach players more respect
-
yea, you're right - the guys in today's NHL are soft The game has gotten bigger and faster... and lets not forget, pads aren't only there to protect from hits... back in the day, you had MAYBE MacInnis and one other guy that could ratchet it over 95MPH - in today's game with the composites, guys are hitting 100 MPH regularly and the leagues hardest shooters can hit 105+... you take that in an unpadded area (or even padded for that matter) and tell me how guys that are "real men" will take that...
-
I can't find a single article claiming that Babs is playing him at center because he wants him to play center in the future... show me a source and then I'll believe it's for ANY other reason than Williams not being conditioned enough yet since his return...
-
He was a career +19 player his first go around here and centered the 3rd/4th lines... and even killed penalties at times back then... he is a strong back checker and has good wheels... he can score goals as well, but is a secondary scorer, not a number 1 scoring threat and never has been at the NHL level... I'm going to have to strongly disagree with your assessment... the reason Miller is playing center over him, is because you don't come back from a broken leg and just crank up the speed... centers need to be not only one of the fastest players on the ice/able to cover the most area, but also need to have the most endurance...
-
same here... I think they didn't really know what happened, because they were celebrating the goal...
-
well... not what Shanny wore, those protect no one and are basically just string, haha the Sherwood's in the picture are what should be worn though and I agree 100% about hard cap pads...
-
you're right, because he didn't play a 3rd/4th line center role his entire first go around here, or center his entire junior career growing up... oh wait...
-
re-entry waivers - yes... and the danger to re-entry waivers, is that if someone else claims him, we're on the hook for half his salary coming back up... and half his cap hit...
-
Classless hit by Carter... but also a clean hit... I'm torn on shots like these, because this was Anssi's own fault... you put your chin down and you're ASKING to get labled, but at the same token Carter didn't even TRY and aim for his chest, and very clearly went high... Under the current rules, nothing wrong with this hit... but the league does need to do something about this, ALONG with the NHLPA educating players better on protecting THEMSELVES and not relying on the rules... long and the short of it, I think Carter took some liberties, but did nothing technically wrong, or against the rules... code of honor, maybe, but nothing against the rules... if a suspension or fine comes from this, it will be a shame.....

I want a healthy, at least 80% Franzen - that's it... I also don't think we need a 3rd line center, Williams was a center first already and once he gets more conditioning back from the injury, I'm sure he'll be moved back there... I think with everyone healthy, if Lils is good to go and Kronwall doesn't have any setbacks, we're set... Franzen-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Filppula-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Miller-Williams-Cleary Draper-Helm-Eaves Maltby May Lidstrom-Rafalski Stuart-Kronwall Ericsson-Lilja Meech Howard Osgood looks pretty damn good to me

ok... granted, it looked odd in his first game with TOR with a giant Duck on his helmet and black and gold pads... and even that, I thought was odd with 3 days before a start to get it taken care of, but he had over a week by his start this past Sat... and still a Duck - now, I know there are NONE more superstitious than goalies and he is riding a 120 min shutout streak with TOR, but come on... you don't have to get new gear, just repaint/reupholster it... I'll bet he wears it next start to until the streak ends... just looks SOOOO odd...

Title pretty much says it all - what do you guys think? Fire McCrimmon, move MacLean back to D coach (where he was during the 08 cup run) and bring Gallant on board as an assistant handling the offense.

none of them could touch..........

Kronwall, Eaves OUT, Holmstrom questionable, Franzen, Miller IN

Once the rosters are expanded, my understanding is that we can bring him up, but he'd still be exposed to waivers, however, the cap is already accounted for by that point - so we wouldn't be on the hook for any cap space -

Skill alone, I agree, but the learning curve of our system and the cap hit make Meech more valuable on the active roster in my mind... I hope they can re-sign Tollefsen in the offseason with the mindset that he will spend another year in GR and then have a chance to earn a spot on the roster in camp... -

I would imagine if anything, they'll keep Meech and he'll be number 7 - less cap hit and he already knows the system... plus, Tollefsen would need to pas through re-entries and THEN we could lose him and STILL be on the hook for some of his cap... no thanks... there are at least 2 other guys I would bring up before him... -

well... long term, yes, over the next couple weeks, no - we can't expect him to just come back and dominate after almost 5 months off... I actually think Lilja's return will have a greater impact than Franzen's, because of the way it will shore up our third pairing, and lessen the load on the top 2 pairings... ESPECIALLY the PK -
