I'm sure if Bettman had his way, he'd find a way for Crosby to score 4 in OT
-
multiple late game leads, defensive lapses... brings up the topic again....
-
even though I think he's a ******... I will give him credit - he is a damn good player and one of the top 3 in the game right now - but overall, I like AO and Kovalchuk's game better... I am pretty good at removing myself from a situation and looking at it with an un-biased opinion... also, as I said earlier, I think Ovechkin's style will eventually be his undoing as well... on the same note, Crosby hasn't exactly been the model of durability either through his first 5 years...
-
I don't think Crosby's points per game will stay consistent, wheras I think AO's will actually only go up(really all opinion) Like I said too, it all depends on injuries, because AO's reckless style makes him more likely to fall off due to injury than Crosby - but in a perfect world, where they both play the same games, over the same period... I think AO will score quite a few more... I think Kovalchuk is going to go off over the next 5 years if he stays in NJ - so, him and I wouldn't be surprised to see Malkin with more pts than Crosby at the end of his career either...

woohoo! thank you!

do we have a source, just to be sure?

I think that's part of what stands out so bad to me, it's not just the different team colors/logo... it's the fact that it's the Maple Leafs - one of the most storied franchises in the NHL and he's wearing a cartoon Duck, arguably, the most ridiculous team name/logo/roots in the NHL (it was a franchise started by Disney to cross promote a movie basically!) on his cage Just seems like complete contrasts to me... even worse than just another teams colors/logo, because of the teams/colors involved

agreed... I thought if it were going to happen that it would have already... it's now 20 after... still would like a report to confirm though...
-
Yzerman didn't have the same linemates early in his career and the Wings were HORRIBLE - bad comparison - from 1992-2000, Yzerman and Gretzky put up virtually the same point totals... and that is factoring in injuries both ways
-
I think a lot of Ozzie's deal was that he was so shocked by the deal and dejected... I think he still wanted to pretend he was a Wing, haha Giguere on the other hand was down right jubilant to go to TOR I just think if nothing else, get the current helmet sandblasted and wear it white until the stencil is ready and get the helmet painted on an off day...
-
well... it's noon... no reports anywhere of him being claimed...
-
agreed 100% - it just looks SO odd... I don't think there is a combination that could be weirder in the NHL - to go to such a storied franchise as TOR wearing a cartoon duck in such contrasting colors... hurts my eyes

I still think Howe was the best ever... to watch some of those old clips and what he was able to do with a tree trunk in his hand and a weird little metal blade strapped to a leather boot... imagine a prime Howe him in new Bauer Vapor skates and a composite stick... scary...
-
There also wasn't the same parity and both Gretzky and Lemieux he had some VERY high quality linemates as well... don't get me wrong, he's one of the best of all time, but I think his ability is overstated at times as well due to the nature of the game... as Carman stated, I think it is much more accurate and reasonable to throw them all in the same pool as the best to ever lace them up and call it a day *side note - If Howe had played in the 80's/early 90's, I wonder what his point totals would have been...
-
exactly... apples to oranges... it's all speculation, but I think to even speculate that Gretzky would have been that dominant in today's game seems pretty ridiculous...

ham and cheese on wheat?

Thornton has only broke 100 pts once since 05, same with Crosby and Jagr has never even broke 70 after 05... maybe 120-130 is a little low, so MAYBE 140-150 would be his peak, but Crosby's 120 is probably close to a career peak for him too with the way the game is played post lockout... he is better than all those players, but NO one is scoring EVEN CLOSE to 180 in today's game, let alone being a perennial 150... sorry, but the distance in ability is not THAT great... I'd go as far as to say with AO in the game, there'd be quite a few years he didn't win the scoring title if he was playing today and AO MIGHT be better...
-
unless you're Babcock's hair - it's peak age started at 18 and will never end...
-
he's easily been one of our best 2 players night in and night out every game since he's been back from injury...
-
no way in hell... He would probably PEAK at 120-130 and consistently be around 100, but with 4 lines rolling and the overall defensive nature of the position (as opposed to basically 5 forwards in the 80's) there's no way in hell he would come even CLOSE to his numbers he had back then - this is not to diminish what he did, or who he was, but be realistic...
-
I agreed with you on every thing until your last paragraph... I think not only will Ovechkin finish with more points than Crosby, but at least 2 other current NHL players will finish their careers with more points than him as well... Crosby is injury prone and is yet to play a full NHL season (although his first year basically was - 81 games) and I don't see him playing more than a couple seasons more than AO...
-
crossing mine as well... thanks for the link

I really feel like that article plagiarized me from this very board
