ouch... big hit to the US squad... Ryan Whitney would be a good choice for a replacement
-
I think this pretty much sums it up...
-
I was just going to ask what happened to the votes... it was 15-1 Meech last I checked...
-
that was I... and I agree 100%
-
exactly, which is why it makes for the perfect storm and probably makes them the favorites to land him... but look at the bright side, this also means he'll be an UFA in the off season
-
I think this is really what it comes down to... along with the potential and also, although it is huge, Meech does play a little more physical than Lebda too... I just see no reason to keep Lebda...
-
probably, but I think it is very valid... just look at the numbers: D Brett Lebda 52 1 5 6 -7 0 0 0 22 49 2.04 15:12 D Derek Meech 37 2 3 5 -9 1 0 1 15 46 4.35 13:28 With 15 less games and less ATOI, he has basically the same point total and basically the same +/- For what they are (small, offensive d-men) I think the upside alone makes Meech more valuable...
-
maybe I should go into the GM business, haha
-
Mods - please merge with the other thread - I think this is a good poll question For the record, I think Meech hands down - Lebda is what he is, is older and has peaked, there is still some upside for Meech...
-
can we put him, Pierre McGuire and that ****** from the Penguin's crew in a room and just firebomb it?
-
What a difference......
-
did you watch the game last night?! he looked great 5-5 and got one of his assists on the 5-5... he's also WAY under-rated on his strength on the puck... holds on to it very well and makes plays... I think he's proven he deserves top line minutes, even at his older age...
-
yea... no kidding...
-
not recently... they used to call diving without a tripping going the other way... that goes exactly with your second point... they barely call it anymore, they either call just a trip, or let it go both ways...
-
exactly... we're capped out, so we can't really trade for players by this point, just prospects/picks...
-
oh, trust me, I know the quirky and odd nature of goalies... had too many of them as friends, haha my point is, he's not going to stay in duck gear for his entire career in Tor, so why not start it off right - he could have even had the same helmet sand blasted so it was white and the same pads re-upholstered, so the equipment was actually the same... it just always looks odd to me when a goalie takes the ice with a new team, wearing old team colors... especially when they've had a few days to change it...
-
They need to give like a 5 minute instigator major or something for these fights when a guy retaliates for a clean hit... like, if no penalty resulted on the initial hit, if someone instigates a fight on it - automatic 5 minute major for instigating AND a 5 for fighting... not saying this is exactly what they should do, just a suggestion, because they need something more drastic... this is getting down right ridiculous... As for the announcer... that is brutal... just brutal...
-
I think it had a lot more to do with a skate blade SNAPPING OFF and then getting slew footed... bad luck doesn't mean they rushed him haha, no kidding... talk about bad luck
-
exactly... especially a team with a glut of defensive minded, big, slower, d-men *cough* NYI *cough* could probably use someone like Lebda and he might even step up his game being relied on heavier... I just think the Islanders are such a perfect trade partner, as it would be a pure win/win which is what all GM's shoot for...
-
very true and thank you very much!
-
The more I watch him play, the more I'm amazed in the Red Wing brass' ability to find diamonds in the rough and both amazed and grateful that no one else signed him... I think he'll be a Red Wing for a long time... and that, is a great thing.
-
I thought that was odd too, the trade happened 3 days prior... he couldn't have gotten some new pads(or his re-upholstered) in time and at bare minimum, a plain white helmet? on any note, he looked strong...
-
although that's true, it was not just a matter of a hot stretch last night - he was very visibly making a difference on the PP when he was on the ice, not only in the way the Sharks were focused and worried about him (opening up the back end passes and forcing them to collapse down low) but also his work on the puck and redirections, which directly led to our 2nd goal...
-
even with this said though, this still makes them a viable candidate - what do they have to lose by giving up a prospect and a late round pick to take a flier on Ville Leino and Brett Lebda... they get a speedy d-man on the back end that would be better than Popovic and a bare minimum, a good insurance in case of injury and take a chance on the untapped potential of Leino... they have tons of cap space, and both players would be very small hits for them...
