learn to read. also... when this season is over and he's ended with career highs - will you step to the plate and admit you were wrong? because in 5 years from now, if he hasn't had at least one 80 pt season... I will.

not true, we added Boogard, Iginla, Lecavalier and the 14 year old D man who can fight...

Has Chelios lost it? Now he wants Paul Kelly back.

ALL of the reasons are speculation at best... there is no clear cut reason and money is my speculation... you can disagree, but I refuse to believe it was not the driving factor. -

just like when a company fires an employee because of being late, when in reality, it was because their numbers weren't high enough... the real reason was the salaries and anything else was used as an excuse... -

I think everyone is reading into this too much - there was a vote and a bunch of players VOTED him out, because they were pissed about the salary dropping (irrationally, because of the economy) so they made Kelly a scapegoat... now, they're realizing the error of their ways and HOPEFULLY will right a wrong... One of the greatest life lessons I took from my grandpa, was that he always said that there was no bigger thing a man could do, than admit when he is wrong and do everything he can to right it. -

It's all about development. As Holland and staff has said a million times - they like their players "over-ripe"... they'd rather them dominate at a lower level and be really itching so when they bump them up, they explode onto the scene, then they let them tear it up there until their over-ready, so they can burst into the Red Wings and make an immediate impact (ie Ericsson, Helm, Fischer, etc...) There is no room for projects on the Red Wings roster and really, with the overall depth of the organization, only minor projects or character guys that our prospects can learn from in GR. Finally, there's something to be said about an 18-21 year old kid and keeping them humble and developing them as PEOPLE as well as players at a lower level. You put them into higher leagues and they have higher salaries, higher notoriety and a more lavish lifestyle, which can then lead to attitude or behavioral problems (ie Patrick Kane, Sidney Crosby, etc...)... granted, with the leadership here, it's less likely to happen, but the likes of Z, Datsyuk, Draper, Lidstrom, etc, etc, etc... can't be around these kids all the time and eventually they're going to have time alone with their fame and money.... I think having him spend a year or two in juniors tearing it up is a great path...

Try out players are FA - anyone under contract gets "leased" out to another league but is still property of the Red Wings, cut just means that they won't be staying with the big club if they are under contract... so pretty much everyone but the try-out invitees

I hate to say it and I REALLY (and I mean REALLY) hope I'm wrong, but I don't think he'll ever even see time in the Winged wheel and probably won't move up in the organization, unless he can develop SOLID scoring numbers or pick up his foot speed to become a genuine PK option I love this kid's upside and once again... I really hope I'm wrong...
-
same here, very good to hear... this will surely speed up his development

Scotty Bowman coaching the Chicago Blackhawks?
stevkrause replied to 19Wingsfan4ever's topic in General
absolutely no way in hell... Scotty is going to be 76 (as previously mentioned) and he does not travel anymore, also, he's not even in Chicago as often as he is in Florida (as he was rarely in Detroit) - there is a reason he has a consultant role and not a GM role... not. possible. -
wow, I'm a DIEHARD hockey guy, but I'll take regular season MNF over pre season, non-Red Wings games...
-
that'd be pretty cool, but I don't see it happening... I think it'd be different if they were a line on the Olympic team, but their generally split up even there... just them dressing and playing will be all the tribute needed... I just hope Lilja is at the game, even if in the press box... that's gotta be a real bummer for him that he can't play in these games...

ugh... I know Babs loves the R and L combo on the point, but with Stuart and Ericsson, there's no excuse for not having one of them back there... and to who said Sammy was better, come on... lets not have revisionist history here - as an overall player, I think Sammy is a slight upgrade from Williams, but Williams is FAR better on the point than Sammy was, better aim, better puck control and could keep the puck in the zone better...

I'm pretty sure this one will be a landslide, but for fun - who was the better team leader? 1. John Biebe OR 2. Reg Dunlop

as I was posting this thread, it dawned on me how long it's been since I watched Slapshot... goodnight all, I'm going to watch the greatest hockey movie of all time now
-
They're reporting it on TSN and ESPN, so obviously - there's some serious weight to this... I think it's just a matter of getting all sides paperwork filed and NTC's officially waived before they confirm it - I think this is a done deal

Ottawa makes out like a bandit in this trade... sheds TONS of cap, gets rid of a malcontent and adds a very undervalued, underused face off gem in Stoll and an up and coming scorer in Frolov... complete fleecing by Murray... why the hell would LA make this trade is my question?????
-
exactly - in the same vein, I could have nominated any of the Hanson brothers.. Also, clearly, this post was for fun... I also though about nominating John Biebe, but was worried, even with a picture, that most people wouldn't get the reference... and to the poster who said most wouldn't know Reg Dunlop - don't insult us... anyone who doesn't, should immediately imdb the name and go out and rent the single greatest hockey movie of all time associated with said character...

Pee Wee and Midget players cannot be compared to professional players such as Bombay and Youngblood!
