Simple answer - with the way Brunnstrom has played this preseason, he has earned a contract, remove Mursak due to the injury and that gets raised from contract, to roster spot... when Mursak returns, you make the tough decision then of who gets exposed to waivers... that is not a decsision that needs to be made now

Well, Mursaks out at least 6-8 weeks...

1 way or 2 way, just dictates salary base, not waiver status... that is dictated by age, years in the league, games played... etc... capgeek has a pretty good waiver exemption calculator to clarify...

You really think someone will put a claim on him? He was a FA and didn't even get any bites, plus, they can designate him before the season starts and he won't have to clear (what is it, 7 or 10 days?) So, give him a contract and designate him before Oct and we're clear... that is, if he doesn't flat win the 14th roster spot... Babs seems pretty impressed with him...

He has looked very solid and steadying in his 2 games so far... I just really want to see him paired with Kindl or Ericsson, you know, the guys he will likely be actually playing with... I expect a major ressurection of his career here and I think he's already well on his way to being a major fan favorite

I'm hoping Commie rubs off on E more than anyone... teach him to be a little nastier and use that size more, hell hopefully both Kindl AND E pick up a little of that snarl from Commie... I still think Commie is going to be our everyday number 6 and Kindl will end up on the outside looking in, more often than not, but if he EARNS the job, then good for him... plus, there are ALWAYS injuries, so he will get his shots...

I agree... Brunnstrom looked less impressive in the 3rd... I made my assessment in the 2nd int, haha, Brunnstrom still shows flashes though and I reallllly want to see us sign him to a 2 way deal and see if he earns a shot next year after a full season in GR... I still stand by my Pyett assessment too, his passes were poorly targeted, his decision making very poor and his positioning no better... he's got a good shot and some good wheels and I think he's used to those attributes bailing him out, but that doesn't fly in the NHL... I've seen him in GR several times live as well, as well as streams and I just don't ever see him as anything more than a career AHL'er... I also agree with your assesment on the 14th forward - Johnson and Conner have the edge over Emmerton at this point from what I saw tonight...

My thoughts exactly... to echo the sentiment of others, Emmerton certainly doesn't look hungry enough, I'd give the edge to Conner so far and Brunnstrom is looking worthy of a 2-way deal for sure so far... could end up being a piece of our future... Other notes, Hudler has looked faster than normal, Pyett looks HORRIBLE, Exelby looks like a good AHL'er/depth player and Smith certianly looks NHL ready, but I still think he needs to be in the AHL for the whole season logging major minutes, especially with the lack of a spot for him on our current roster... Howard has looked pretty good as well, minus the soft goal by Malkin, where he got caught cheating... Also, how great do Kronwall and Stewie look back together?!?!

I'm just glad we get a lot of games as you said... in the past, it's usually only like 3 games and I LOVE pre-season hockey, it's the geek in me for the prospects/scouting, etc...

With everything he went through, I REALLY pull for this guy to truly learn from his past and lead a productive life/career in hockey... this is a great story!
