kinda in the same vein as my thought just a little more strict - I can get on board with this too... I just really want some way to keep home grown guys and not have to lose them because you developed them too well, to where they deserve more money... doesn't seem right, basically punishing a team for doing things the right way, especially a team like ours where most guys are late round picks...

ahhh, got it - in that case - two of the most beautiful things on the earth, together in the same picture, Kristin Bell and Lord Stanley's hardware - if that doesn't distract you, I don't know what will

maybe worth taking a flier on? maybe even on a 1 year deal if we can convince him to take it and then bring him back if it works...

this thread definitely took an odd turn, I guess that's what happens when you wait until page 3 to comment, haha right now, I'd like Manny Malhotra, Travis Moen, Dan Hinote, or someone via trade (ie Artukyin)

haha, I actually wasn't even really making that comparison, more in the style of play

he just heavily reminds me of a Dallas Drake type of guy...

haha, just put the LGW posters on a board of directors and turn it over to us... it'd be an upgrade from Bettman!
-
exactly... but it also puts more revenue into the struggling teams, while allowing players to stay within an organization longer and therefore, allows fans more time to connect with players and market them, thus marketing the league...

I was typing a rely in the same vein when you posted this... mine is structured a little different, but same idea... give it a read

I hate, HATE the lottery... they didn't have to do the same luxury tax as the NBA though, they could have forged their own... for example, say they put something in place, that if you drafted a player, or he has already been with your organization for at least 3 years, you can re-sign him and only his initial contract can count against the cap and any increase against a luxury if a team so desires (up to 50% of the contract) but you can NOT use the luxury tax to sign FA's... for example, say we could re-sign Ericsson in 2 years for something crazy like 3.5, since his initial contract was only 900k, but less that 50% of his new contract, the Wings could chose to defer 1.75 of the contract to the luxury and only 1.75 of it would count towards the cap, but say you had a guy signed at 2m a year who was a FA and you re-up him after 3 years for 2.8, you could defer .8, but the 2 would still count... that way, teams wouldn't have to lose home grown talent, or guys that you basically brought in and made them who they are (ie. Cleary), but the richer teams couldn't just go out and buy up all the talent...

fair enough, I see your point... I still don't see it dropping the full 6 though...
-
I guess we view the economy in a different way then... I see it leveled out at the bottom and not going lower, you clearly think it's going to dip even further...
-
The NHL didn't lose that much though, that's the point, had they not induced the 5% inflator this year, the cap would have only dropped by about 2.5 million and I do not see it dropping again this upcoming year, but rather, staying even... so the rational drop next year, would be around the 2-2.5 range... I'm not an economist, but I do follow financial trends a little bit...

what about the fact that Shep is an idiot when it comes to the Wings? I'd be all for Tanguay if he was going to take a STEEP cut and come here for around 2.5... but that's not going to happen... Also, there's no chance in HELL we trade Lilja coming off the concussion, nor should we, when he's healthy, he's one of our most solid d-men and a bargain at 1.2... couple that with the fact that the Wings ARE NOT GOING TO BUY OUT/TRADE Holmstrom and one again... Shep is an idiot when it comes to the Wings
-
and we've already pretty much hit rock bottom economically... I don't see it going up, or staying the same, but I do not see it dropping by more than 3 million... and even that I think it's a high estimate...
-
where do you get 13? Abs and Kader will be re-signed before seasons end and neither of them are going to get huge increases, so fine, lets say we have another 1.5 gone for their pay raises... thats 42.5 committed to 16 players (you only need 21 for an NHL roster) so you only need to sign 5 players with 8 mill left... that's more than enough... EDIT - The 16th player would be the 7th d-man that we will carry for league minimum or close to, may not be Lebda or Meech, but someone of that caliber...
-
yea, I'm interested to hear this as well? Even if the cap takes the maximum drop of 6 mil (which I do not see the NHLPA allowing) thats still 10 mil we'll have left to sign essentially 4 players... 10 seems like more than enough to do that to me...
-
couldn't have said it better myself.
-
I hardly consider those 2 equal... they will have no more than 2 quality NHL defensemen next year after this mess, we have 6... they will have MAYBE 4 top 6 players locked up, we already have 4 locked up and the supporting cast we have locked up is FAR superior to what they will have left going into 10-11...
-
that's counting ALL of our minor leaguers though, that won't be playing... if you look at who it has counted for CHI, only about 1.5-2 of that is actually players that won't be on the roster and in the minors to start the season, so that STILL puts them at 2-2.5 over and that's not even into this year yet...
-
they MIGHT be able to unload Huet if a team is really desperate, but there is no way any teams takes on that 7 mil for Campbell and if they buy him out, that's 3.5 against the cap for a player they don't even keep, so it's lose-lose... they're pretty screwed...
