ok, I can give you that - he wouldn't demand much on the trade market, simply because of how unknown he is, but this kids the real deal... I can't wait to see him up here full time...
-
Ryno - "mediocre" prospect?!?! ARE YOU HIGH?!?!
-
like I JUST said, if we can get him in for a price, great, make it happen, he just not deserve more than 5 a year and ALSO like I just said, great bring him in, but people need to stop calling for additions if we can make it happen - if they bring him in, they add a d-man and call it a day, we don't need any other forwards if we bring in Hossa...
-
I think he'd be an AMAZING fit here, but you do not mortgage the future on an insanely high asking price - He wants a big contract and in my opinion, he shouldn't get more than 5 a year... Z is in for a raise around 7, dats is at about 7, nick is at 7 and raffi is at 6... if Hossa was in around anything more than 5 a year - that's more than 32 a year locked up on ONLY 5 guys... If he will stay here and sign for 5 a year or less, over at LEAST a 3 year contract... fine, get it done, but that effectively cuts out any other forward, all these ridiculous, Fedorov and Hossa posts are just that, rediculous, because you would need to essentially bleed all of our tradeable resources to get Hossa... Long story short - he want s a payday, in the range of 8 a year - Not worth it.
-
as already said, he is not affordable long term, so if he came here - he WOULD be a rental, as we would not be able to retain him after this year... also, as you will notice if you loom at my last post, it included sending Sammy out - Fedorov would offer scoring touch at the price we can afford, I don't agree with mortgaging the future for something that needs only minor tweaks...
-
thank you.
-
here, I updated it - Notice the spelling of Downey:
-
I don't like that one bit - you don't give up Flip and/or Huds for a rental and like was already mentioned, where's the youth?!? As I've already made clear, I want them to go after Stoll, but that's starting to look unlikely... and we don't want to get rid of all of our youth, especially with the way Kopecky's been playing - even better would be: Sammuelsson, prospect and 5th round pick to Columbus for Fedorov Meech and a prospect/pick to LA for Brad Stuart, with an extra pick or 2 added if he re-signs with the Wings Sign McCarty for depth and call it a day... you don't fix what isn't broken either and a major shake up could screw team chemistry... minimal changes to add, not overhaul: Filpulla - Datsyuk - Homstrom Cleary - Zetterberg - Fedorov Franzen - Draper - Maltby Hudler - Kopecky - Drake Downey and McCarty rotating in as needed Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Lilja - Chelios Lebda rotating in as needed Hasek Osgood That looks a lot better to me - both in ability and cost.
-
this is just one of those moves you have to make... and although Ellis being claimed is unlikely, it's not impossible - I just hope he clears, so we can hold on to him... he works his ass off and has tons of heart. Even if it's only as a limited role, those are the kind of guys you want to keep around...
-
I see a SLEW of goalies becoming shells after this... but DAMN does the game need this... I'm stoked.
-
because he had one really good game?!? yes he stepped up last night when Nick went down, but if anything, I just think we need to capitalize on that and trade him while his value is the highest - He makes defensive lapses in judgement, lacks the size and unfortunately for him... there just isn't the room in my mind - is he good? yes. Does he have a spot here? No. Ericsson and Quincey are NHL ready NOW and deserve the shot more than Meech and Kindl and Smith will be here in a couple years once Cheli calls it a day... not to mention who ever comes in at deadline... just no room.
-
So they were mentioning him on Hockey night in Canada and that there is a VERY good chance that after his contract is up after the 09' season, he will jet - Knowing this and the fact that their season is over... what do you think the odds are that he could become available at THIS deadline, when his worth is the highest? With this in mind... I know it would be expensive as hell (contract and trade value) but what would you part with to make him a Red Wing? It would suck to see them leave... but I would part with one or both Filpulla and Hudler, as well as a blue chip prospect like Kindl and/or Abdelkader... with that said, I'm VERY torn on if I would make the move or not, but just IMAGINE what he would bring to the table... keep in mind, if this move would make re-signing Hank long term not possible, I'm against it... intriguing thought at least
-
I was trying not to undersell as we can all be guilty of doing on here and probably proposed too much of a return in an effort to do so... I would just love to see those 2 on the team come deadline...
-
yet again, maybe too expensive on the picks side, but Meech has no spot here and if we brought in Stoll, sending Sammy out would be to make way - it's really not cutting any roster players in that aspect... I can agree that that is awfully hefty in terms of picks and maybe it should be scaled down, but he still isn't going to come for nothing - and as far as need, Stuart fits here MUCH better than Kaberle...
-
the fact that you have no idea on trade value, or that it actually COSTS something to GET something just proves that you don't understand the concept... did I maybe go a little expensive on Stuart? maybe, but I'm not Kenny - regardless, when the day is done, NO one on this board is a GM and opinions are like assholes, everyone has one - and some are bigger than others... as you just proved.
-
these would obviously be un-related scenarios...
-
lets just agree to disagree, I think draft picks are INCREDIBLY valuable - that is why they would play such an intrigal part of a trade, because the other side is getting a LOT of potential... with that being said, that's all it is POTENTIAL the Wings have made their splashes in later rounds and we're lucky our farm is so deep that we can afford to develop players, also, with ALL of that in mind... look at what's in our system right now - These guys are ALL going to be NHL ready in 3 or less years, some as soon as next year, which makes the need to hoard all these draft picks even less... there are only so many spots on a team and when they're filled, the other guys get lost in the shuffle... With how AMAZING they've done at drafting in the last 5 to 6 years and with all the depth we have, any guys coming out of the next 2 drafts aren't going to see much playing time here for at least 5 years anyways... we're playing for a cup NOW - and we're not selling the farm by doing this - We have Ericsson, Kindl, Smith and Quincey on the back end that are all NHLers, up front, Helm, Abdelkader, Ryno, Mursak, Axelsson, Anderson, etc, etc, etc... Also, I think yo are GROSSLY undervaluing Stuart - he is a top 4 dman with a mean streak... those don't fall in teams laps
-
I think they'll wait too, I don't even think it'll be this offseason, I don't think it will be until next years deadline, the only intrigue with THIS deadline, is how DEEP this years draft is...
-
well some draft picks would have to be included as well... thats what would worry me though, HOW much, is the question...
-
lets be honest, you have to pay to get someone, they're not going to give him away for nothing and thats what Sammy and a 2nd would be, nothing...
-
I was primed for laughter as soon as I read this post... and the replies did not let me down

Rafalski out with a groin injury; Quincey called up
stevkrause replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
A. f*** B. I like Quincey, but would rather see Ericsson up for a few days... -
Ericsson, Quincy and Kindl next year, as well as Smith in 2 years time will ALL be improvements over Meech, there is no reason to waste a roster spot on him... he needs to get shipped out when we can still get ANYTHING of value for him, whether it's in a package, or just for a pick
-
On an under performing Edmonton team, that could definitely use some picks after losing their number 1 in the Penner deal, had a decent year in 05-06, but hasn't torn it up in Edmonton - Right handed shot and not too expensive at 2.2, still pretty young and TONS of upside, decent size and pretty scrappy, would make a good 2nd line guy Could probably get him for a pick and a prospect thoughts?
-
I think realistically, we could get him for Cory Emmerton, a 2nd round pick and a later round pick in this years draft or another 2 picks from future drafts Like last year, when Laraque was at the top of my wish list, Stoll is at the top of my wish list for this year...
