oh, don't get me wrong I LOVE watching Downey play, but we know Babs isn't gonna supplant any of those guys for him - He's a replacement player, behind Ellis...

as already pointed out, you do not get a Mats f'in Sundin for nothing, I would not part with Hudler, or any real roster players, as you do not break up what is already working so well, which means, a WEALTH of young talent - As already stated, they would have no real need for Howard, as they already have an up and comer in Pogge, they need D and they need future up front... also, they would not want Samuelsson, he is already 30 and would not really fit their system 2008 2nd rd 2009 1st rd Derek Meech AND as much as I would hate to lose him with his size and the promise he's shown, Cory Emmerton The guts of the trade being the 2009 1st rd and Emmerton also, with how weak and un-reliable their 3rd pairing has been, Meech would definitely be an every day top 6 on that squad... I would also give up a 2010 4th or 5th rd as well if they wanted it...

delay of game, tripping, unsportsmanlike conduct... -
as stated in two earlier posts - it makes PERFECT sense. When there's a scramble for the puck, as ANYONE who ever played the game know, one is going to just blast the puck and take the icing over giving up a goal, the ONLY time a clear would be made with "touch" would be the same cases in which a player could carry it out... which they already do... These extra icings would slow the games progress down by stopping play close to at least 3 times a power play, leave tired players on the ice and in turn cause more injuries and improper line change opportunities (for BOTH the attacking AND defending team)

exactly. period. I'm not a fan of rule adjustments, but I think if anything - like I've said before - they need to revert back on a few rules, reduce goalie gear, remove the trapezoid and let goalies be fair game if they leave their crease...
-
this is the most ridiculous thing I have EVER heard... if they want to seriously put the last nail in the coffin of the game - This will do it.

If Bettman stepped down as commissioner....

Ken Dryden would be an amazing commissioner... -
I have been voting at least 3 times a day... now how the HELL isn't Osgood a write-in leader with the year he is having, yet freakin "6-5-1 half on the shelf" Dom is in 3rd??!!?!?! THIS IS PATHETIC What is wrong with people - START VOTING DAMNIT!!!!!!
-
Good for Auld, just hopefully he can keep it up - Boston seems to be the final resting place for goalie's careers over the last decade and a half... As for the Chara, I gotta imagine it just had to do with his time in Ottawa and the bad blood between them

In this case, where they only own the rights and the player is not actually signed to a contract - No, they have no say. Now, if a player is signed to an actual contract, the Wings have final say (unless the guy has an out clause) such as in Grigorenko and Ryno's case - If the Wings felt Ryno was better in GR, he would've had to contractually stay in GR, Grigs had an out clause however, which is what allowed him to jet

I have a few - The first time Yzerman hoisted the cup- Vladdy with the cup in 98' The 2 greatest Wings to ever wear the winged wheel together -

thats for the memory kick, I remember that now... and yes, I said in my previous post, no, it's not the stick coming out of his face, haha
-
I wouldn't even think of it here in Detroit, but I could see him working well in St. Louis or even ending landing in Edmonton - They could use the veteran leadership...
-
that doesn't look like Calder either... hmm, just a weird angle I guess

you gotta be kidding... don't get me wronf I think lilja has had a great year so far... but he is not an all-star hopefully...

this WHOLE thread is subjective and nothing more than opinion - which are like assholes, everyone has one... I think Chara is a whole different BREED of defensemen and will have an ever more storied career by the time it is over - he is JUST 30, that's aging? He's at his prime if you ask me... I think Zubov is a better defenseman, but I also think he's at the end of his career and I don't think he's already earned this slot, same thing with Neidemayer, the only reason I put Nick in the list already, is because he has already earned it 10 times over and when he finally hangs them up - he goes up to #1 all-time... I still think Phaneuf and Bouwmeester have a lot to prove... yet again - all subjective As for Luongo - he most certainly has proven it as an "in the making" - he's not in my list of all time greats as you may notice - name ONE other goalie that is "in the making" that is more of a game stealing, impact goalie (and if you say Leclaire in his first season as a starter, I will automatically tune you out) Kipper is an argument, but he gets rattled too... ALSO - subjective. yes, and in the making of being an ALL-TIME great... he still has at least 2 more good years in him... actually, I probably could've already put him in the ALL-TIME list now that I think of it... but who do YOU suggest he supplant on tha list? he's still active, so I put him at the end as "in the making" - we'll see where he ends it...
-
wow, this is a tough list and I agree with a lot of the original post - I added a "in the making" to every category- but here goes... Center: - Lemieux dropped on my list because of his shortened career 1) Wayne Gretzky 2) Steve Yzerman 3) Jean Beliveau 4) Mario Lemieux 5) Mark Messier (in the making) - Sidney Crosby Left Wing: - Agree with this section 100% 1) Bobby Hull 2) Ted Lindsay 3) Luc Robitaille 4) Johnny Bucyk 5) Brendan Shanahan (in the making ) - Ilya Kovalchuk Right Wing: - just a few adjustments here 1) Gordie Howe 2) Maurice Richard 3) Guy Lafleur 4) Brett Hull 5) Mike Bossy (in the making ) - Jaromir Jagr Defense: - Also agree with a LOT of this, but needs some adjustments 1) Bobby Orr 2) Nicklas Lidstrom 3) Doug Harvey 4) Ray Bourque 5) Eddie Shore (in the making) - Zdeno Chara Goaltender: - This is such a difficult list because of the era's, but I feel that some of the recent guys deserved to be on this list, simply on the way they played 1) Terry Sawchuk 2) Patrick Roy 3) Jaques Plante 4) Martin Brodeur 5) Dominik Hasek (in the making)- Roberto Luongo

I respectfully disagree - I addressed most of those points in the posts above, and like I said in my last post too, to each their own on point of view, but it is something you shouldn't dismiss Also, the IIHF is adopting the NHL sized rink, so why would the NHL change something that has been around since the beginning of it's history, when this format is even going away in international competition? - Research has shown the NHL sized rinks lead to a more fast paced, exciting game- Read the article here this is like making nets bigger - it's messing with the core of the game (not to mention, I'm pretty sure that the BOV wouldn't exactly like the idea of cutting out up to 300 or more lower bowl seats to make the room for this - it would never fly) You gotta work with what you got and think of all angles...
-
I responded with this in another topic, but felt it needed it's own post - As the guy with username - "Hank" said so perfectly, the most obvious fix needs to be addressed ASAP, goalie gear, the other 2 are my thoughts - First and foremost: DRASTIC reduction in goalie equipment: This is ALL I have to say about goalie equip size: VS. michlin man: Second: Re-alignment of the conferences/Schedule change: There needs to be more teams in Canada and a more level playing schedule, more games against every team and equal travel league wide - They said they wanted parity, well this is part of it And last but CERTAINLY not least: Removal of the instigator penalty and let the players police themselves: This includes an automatic one-game suspension to any player with a shield who starts a fight and doesn't drop his lid, plus a fine. Also, an additional 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct to any player who engages in a fight with a shield and doesn't take off his helmet if the ref can deem that he had ample opportunity to (yes, this touches on some gray area, as it would be at the refs discretion and could get hairy, but it would have to be in a situation like a flat out square off) - This would keep players honest and cut out weasels like Tootoo - All of this would cut out the cheap shots, head shots, knee shots, etc and clean the game up where it matters...
-
we should probably just agree to disagree, because I think save percentages would drop drastically (.90 would win a vezina) if they decreased the size of the equipment - The leg pads have already been cut down and those I think are pretty close to where they should be (maybe shave another inch in width inside and out - 2 inches less width per leg) but the area they REALLY need to address are the chest pads, blockers and ESPECIALLY trappers - With all the advancements in technology, they can make chest/midsection protectors with just as much protection and literally HALF of the size (opening up gaps between the arms) blockers shold go way down in width and trappers need to become basically catchers gloves in baseball (kinda like the old ones used to be) also cutting those down by more than half If anything too, all this would lead to more exciting saves by the more talented goalies, because rather than just cutting down the angle and engulfing the puck in their midsection's, they would have to be better positioned and in turn, make more acrobatic saves, not to mention - lead to more rebounds, leading to more scoring chances, leading to more excitement... I think the trickle down effect would impact the game insanely if implemented right... just some food for thought, I'll stop trying to convince you of my point of view now, haha to each their own
