    Weber Arbitration hearing...

My guess is that they lock him up long term before the deadline, or trade him for a RANSOM at the deadline... one way or another, he will never see FA or arbitration again... if they took him to arbitration again, I'm sure the NHLPA could file a grievance and would probably win since he'll be so close to 27 and it's such an extenuating circumstance...

    Zherdev to KHL

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I would argue that some AHL teams could beat KHL teams on NA ice... At bare minimum, I would bet the All-Stars from the AHL could give the All-Stars from KHL one hell of a run for their money, if not beat them outright...

    Weber Arbitration hearing...

Smith, Kindl, Tatar, and 2, 1st round picks THAT is likely what it would take... form your own opinion of whether or not you're willing to part with this package to make it happen, I'm not saying whether I am for or against parting with this to get Weber here in return, but just stating what it WILL take...

    Assistant Captains

For now: C - Lidstrom A - Zetterberg A - Datsyuk No rotation, these locked in place unless there's an injury (which hopefully never comes up with those 3!) When the unthinkable happens: C - Zetterberg A - Datsyuk A - Kronwall I'd put money on this being how it plays out...

Mike Commodore: Wear Red Wings Jersey #64

Class move, it was fun, but you gotta appreciate his ability to play along, ultimately go with what he felt was best and still make a charitable donation in the interest of the push for 64

Mike Commodore: Wear Red Wings Jersey #64

I'm not, it's cursed! Look at the mediocrity that wore it recently

    After the 12/13 Season

Exactly. This is why you don't sign goalies to long term contracts, too inconsistent of a position... for our sake, we should REALLY hope that Howard is the clear starter and in line for a raise, because it will mean he had earned it, as for the backup, these next 2 years will be Pearce or McCollum's chance to prove they are NHL ready to be a backup, otherwise, one or both of them will probably have ties cut and the other will most likely have played out as a career AHL'er

Dry Island: The Flyers of Phildelphia.

They can downplay it all they want, when there's smoke, there's fire and there's enough smoke from this story to make smoke signals...

    Agreed completely.

Kabibulin drops DUI appeal, will serve jail time

I'm sorry, and I don't mean to defend him, but Stallworth had a low BAA, low enough that it probably shouldn't even be "over the limit" and the guy he "killed" walked into a high traffic, high speed, highway at 7am, when Stallworth was coming home the NEXT morning... not so cut and dry... I'm not saying he was not at fault at all, but it's not like he was 100% at fault...

Somewhere Kyle Calder is going - "huh?!"

    RFA/UFA Signings

I don't see Prospal working here... and this is coming from someone who wanted to see him given a shot here a few years ago... not all good players are fits for the Wings, nor are the Wings good fits for all good players (See Ray Whitney)

    Report: Gary Bettman makes $7.5M

and you have to factor in the fact that it's a 35+ contract, so no cap relief for early retirement I wonder if it's a front loaded contract?

I don't know if he WILL be a top 6 forward in his career at any point, but I know that he has the potential to be a border-line 2nd line/3rd liner like Dan Cleary and that is a valuable player to have on any team... I don't remember this being a chose one of: Helm or Abs thread, it was about who would be brought back and he most certainly will and SHOULD, as we haven't even come close to seeing his ceiling and there is still a lot to like about his game.

    Kris Draper announces retirement

Great player, great leader, great teammate, great human being end of an era... it's sad, but it was time... Best of luck in the front office Drapes, luckily, I think a couple faces around the office will be familiar for you

Agreed, he made some mental mistakes last year and the most noticeable ones, were unfortunately at the worst time - the playoffs. You are dead on though, he needs to make some big strides next year to show me that he has potential top 6 ability, but even if he doesn't, he's still a good bottom 6 guy and his next contract will pay as such... it's really all on him at this point... he still has a ways to go and he's not there yet, but people who already write him off, or think he won't be brought back (or shouldn't), need to get their heads checked... he'll probably never be a point per game player, but he has the potential to be a Danny Cleary type, with more snarl, which you can never have enough of on a team...

    Your Favorite Red Wing Player

    1) Who is your favorite Detroit Red Wing player overall to wear the Red Wings Logo? No doubt about it - Steve Yzerman 2) Who was your favorite Detroit Red Wing player that joined the Red Wings? (Non drafted by Wings, could be through Trade / FA / Waiver etc...) Brendan Shanahan 3) Which current player would you dream of them joining the Wings? Shea Weber 4) Which are the players that really "hurt / bugged" you when they left the Red Wings to join another team? Sergei Fedorov, hands down, gave the organization that essentially saved his life AND his family, a GIANT slap in the face due to his extreme ego... he's dead to me since. 5) Is there a player that you never wanted him on the team ... but eventually joined the team? I HATED Chris Chelios and though "You have got to be f'ing kidding me?!?!" when it went down, but I grew to love Chelios and am incredibly happy he came here and think of him as a Wing for life now!

Yea, Abs is replaceable! Everyone knows that 24 year olds with size and speed grow on trees and since all players tap out on their potential and we know what they'll be by 23, there's no chance of him getting better either, he's got to go! /sarcasm

    Oh Garth Snow, you're silly

The Islanders are apparently trying to bring Alexi "I'll play when I want, for the right price" Yashin http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/nyi110718.html

Osgood should(n't) be included in the HoF...

    Puck don't lie. Yes.
  23. stevkrause

    The Real Osgood Question

As I've said all along, he deserves to be in the HOF, does not belong in the rafters and neither does Shanny or Fedorov... that is Red Wing exclusivity, that only goes to the most extreme of cases... Lidstrom is the only player other than Yzerman from the last 30+ years that belongs in the rafters and even Hank and Dats need to bring at LEAST 2 more cups here and play their entire careers here (which I'm sure they will) PLUS be HOF bound, before either of them can be considered either...

    Draper or Hudler?

    Hahahaha, best post ever!
