About f'in time this poll went the right way! I can't even believe it was this close, let alone tipped the other way this long...
-
Has anyone noticed what they are doing in Sunrise, FL?
stevkrause replied to hockey&beer's topic in General
I'm calling 7th place finish and a 1st round exit -
I assumed as much and thank you

I've read enough of your posts to know that you fall in this category - and there's nothing wrong with this mindset, I can appreciate it: The ones that drive me insane, are the ones that want Hudler gone at all costs and would vote for the other option regardless...

Poll: Draper or Hudler? (84 member(s) have cast votes) Who would you rather have on the Red Wings? Draper (39 votes [51.32%] - View) Hudler (37 votes [48.68%] - View) My NEW Breakdown: 36 people are looking at this logically and chose Hudler 1 person (eva) chose Hudler, well, because, come on... 18 people have irrational Hudler hate and would take a goat on skates over him at this point 11 people love Draper and are rational people, but would admit they want Draper back just because of the love for him and would admit Hudler is a better option at this stage, but still chose Draper 4 people are still stuck in the late 90's and think Shanahan and Fedorov are still viable options and don't even know half the guys on the current team 2 people thought the question was "Which player is taller" and chose Draper 2 people clicked on the wrong button and can't figure out how to use the "Delete My Vote" button 1 person thought it said Drake and still wants him back 1 person just wants locker room hijinx to remain in tact and whip cream pies to the face to remain and chose Draper

I still count that as falling into the logical category

If you ever read the GDT thread, sometimes it only takes one bad period

He can bring the same benefits off the ice in another role with the team, don't get me wrong, I love Draper, but at this stage in his career and what he brings to the team ON the ice we already have players equal to, or better than, him in those aspects in Eaves, Helm, Abdelkader, Mursak, Miller and to some extent, even Emmerton... his role is filled, that's all there is to it, whereas we DO need scorers, something Hudler is (albeit not an INCREDIBLY effective one last year), he still fits the role... who's going to fill in on that top 6 role? Like it or not, Hudler can produce at least 40pts, which isn't easily just found on a roster....

Poll: Draper or Hudler? (54 member(s) have cast votes) Who would you rather have on the Red Wings? Draper (26 votes [54.17%] - View) Hudler (22 votes [45.83%] - View) So here's my breakdown: 21 people are looking at this logically and chose Hudler 1 person (eva) chose Hudler, well, because, come on... 16 people have irrational Hudler hate and would take a goat on skates over him at this point 6 people love Draper and are rational people, but would admit they want Draper back just because of the love for him and would admit Hudler is a better option at this stage, but still chose Draper 4 people are still stuck in the late 90's and think Shanahan and Fedorov are still viable options and don't even know half the guys on the current team

So you're deeply attached to both and don't want to lose either? poor analogy...

and when Holland was trying to deal him for picks, maybe he had planned to move up with those additional picks and grab someone like Larsson, or he had a deal in place which would have brought someone like Jerome Iginla here in return for those picks and one of our prospects, or he just wanted more money to make a pitch for Brad Richards and wanted assets at an optimal period... who knows the exact reasoning, but I'm sure it was part of a bigger picture, the fact is - that is the past and many variables have changed since then. As the current team stands, we are better with Hudler than Draper and anyone that can't see that is looking at this with blinders on.

I have a feeling this thread is going to take a bad turn and I have a feeling eva will be involved... I voted Hudler. For all the Hudler haters on this board, he still has offensive tools and can add a scoring touch, as well as go on hot streaks, which Draper does not, simple as that - I love Draper and everything he's contributed to this team and if this was a Draper in his prime, it might be a different story, but he is 40 and we already have plenty of "energy" guys that have speed and disrupt teams and kill penalties and it is a VERY important role, but that is not a big a need of ours as scoring is... Say all you want about Hudler, but he still has great vision and one hell of a shot, he just needs to work on his consistency and effort level night in and night out... the guy is still pretty young too and only had one year back from the minor league that is the KHL (I don't think the KHL teams could even beat a lot of the AHL teams) - he still needs some adjusting and I think he will have a bounce back year this year.

Exactly. The only 3 d-men that I wanted, that we didn't go after were: Bieksa - Re-signed in Van and never hit FA, nor showed a desire to go anywhere else Wisnieski - Not at that price tag Montador - Not at that price tag As I've been saying, Holland did the right thing... the only black mark he made as far as I'm concerned is overpaying E, but even that was an effect of the market and he would've probably gotten more on the open market and we retained an asset... White was a bargain and fits nicely, Eaves was a steal and so was Conklin... This has already been a good off-season and our team did NOT get worse, I can see an argument that we basically stayed even, but we did not drop in talent level... I still expect to see a trade before camp too and if not then, I guarantee one will come at the deadline...
-
So, the topic is pretty self-explanatory... with Holland talking to Osgood and a decision expected this week, who do you think? Just something to kill time and break up the monotony until training camp!
-
Well, it was indeed the majority... Pretty good record on LGW when it comes to polls I've created and the majority being right (albeit by the slimmest of margins this time)
-
I've defended Hudler frequently on this board and think he takes WAY too much slack and SOME of your points aren't too bad, but man, do you go overboard defending him... 37 points isn't a horrendous year, but for his caphit and role (second line player) he should have hit at least 50, especially when they were expecting 60+ from him... Come clean... are you Jiri Hudler's mommy? his brother? one of his hookers who still thinks he'll Pretty Woman her one day? What gives?
-
Pretty much my train of though verbatim - Solid B Add to that, locking up Eaves for 3 years for such a small amount was a home-run too and I think is going to be a HUGE discount over the course of the contract and that we'll be laughing hysterically at Buffalo paying Leino the contract they are, when we have Eaves making 1/4th of that, putting up the same numbers...
-
and coming from the "could not be more correct department" - NFM! It's funny that people just look at his stats and not the WAY he played there, it's hard to put up stellar numbers when your defense in front of you is a complete SIEVE... also, Conklin is not the next coming of Dom Hasek, he is what he is a damn solid BACKUP, which, coincidentally, is what we needed... This is the perfect fit.
-
well that didn't take long...
-
If I had to guess, I would guess a trade with NY for Nabby or Conklin as a FA, anything other than those two options and I'd be shocked...
-
by my calculations, he's been conserving his energy for over 10 seasons, so he should be ready to tear it up! Honestly, this would make Brett Lebda's contract look decent...
-
now we're talking about Osgood's Yang?!? This thread took a weird turn...

1. Dead on 2. More dead on.
