    Backup Goalie?

Ozzie's durability at this stage of his career scares the crap out of me... that's literally the ONLY problem I have with him...

Apparently, we were finalists for Vokoun?

    Ding. Ding. Ding.

    Backup Goalie?

    A. He wouldn't need to be, Howard is our starter, but this is moot anyway, because: B. Nabby has been STELLAR in the playoffs, it's the teams in front of him that haven't been... this is CuJo mentality BIG time... Career playoff numbers: 80GP 40W 38L 2.29GAA .913SV% 7SO I will agree on your second part though, yes, Garth Snow is a tool...

    Bettman aiming to overhaul cap?

    Bettman aiming to overhaul cap?

I think they should have both a soft AND hard cap, do a floor, then a soft ceiling which teams can spend up to without penalty, then another ceiling, which has a hard cap on it, which, once spent past the soft cap, carries a heavy luxury tax and goes to profit sharing for the lower teams... somethings got to give, because the bigger markets shouldn't be punished for poor markets being around and weaker markets shouldn't be killed off, just because they're not AS viable, while they can still support a team... there NEEDS to be a viable solution and these jack-holes obviously can't find one...

    Bettman aiming to overhaul cap?

no kidding... what they need to do is implement a wider floor to ceiling gap, allow for the ceiling to rise X percent, without raising the floor and say that the deviation can never be by more than X percent difference between the floor and ceiling... also, limit contract lengths, fix the over 35+ loophole (sign a guy when he's 34 to a 10 year contract and he retires at year 2, poof, gone from the cap), also fix the "hiding" of contracts and make those still count, re-locate teams that are hemorrhaging money to viable markets and for the love of beer, NO MORE EXPANSION. If there is another stoppage, I am going to lose it...

    Backup Goalie?

I don't see Kenny dealing with the Isles due to the way things went down, but I still wouldn't mind seeing Nabby here... maybe Hudler for Nabby and a pick? and to those who spout off, yes, Hudler is worth more than Nabby straight up, Nabby is 37, has been away from NHL hockey for over a year and had a pretty bad showing at the Worlds, so his stock isn't that high right now and Hudler is still young enough, that he could regain form... this would also help NY add salary, which they need to get to the floor...

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

Fair enough, but how do we know that he and Jimmy don't have a problem with one another IN the locker room and this is why we haven't seen him already? Taken out of context or not, that's not the way you talk about someone you LIKE... My point I'm getting at, is, if we're not going to play him, we should trade him... he has nothing left to prove at lower levels... ahhhh, ok, that makes the comparison make a LOT more sense... I don't follow soccer, so I wasn't aware of her comments, but I will agree that she's pretty easy on the eyes

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

Exactly, it's not so much giving him a shot for his sake, but just for the fact that, on the ice, he's proven he's ready... that alone should be good enough for us to, at least, be able to get a mid level pick in return... Goalie comparison - kind of a reach, but fair enough.

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

Well there it is... thanks for the translation and input... If nothing else, that is a piss poor attitude and makes me not want him in that locker room, but I still think that we should at least trade him to a team where he can get a shot, especially if we can get an asset in return... I don't follow on the relevance? Are they dating or something?

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

Agreed, as long as the comments weren't as bad as they were made out to be, because if they were, you don't want a locker room cancer either... if they're not going to play him though, they really should trade his rights, so he can get a shot somewhere...

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

Any of our Swedish brethren here that can help? I'm really interested to hear the exact translation now, because "is getting up there in years" can easily be twisted into "washed up" and "I pushed Jimmy real hard in Grand Rapids and beat him out for the job" can easily get twisted into "washed the floor with him" A lot can be lost in translation, so I just wonder how bad it really was...

    Red Wings sign Chris Conner

Details still to come, reported by Detroit Sports Nation Also reported by theproductionline.com - http://theproductionline.us/2011/07/red-wings-sign-chris-conner/ Depth signing for GR I'd imagine, but good to bring a home town guy back

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

He said he didn't want to play in GR anymore and you really can't blame the guy, he beat Jimmy for the starting gig in GR, yet Jimmy was in Detroit the following season and Larsson was not, then another year passed and he was still not given a chance... the guy really has nothing left to prove at the AHL level... can't blame him too much for wanting to play at the highest level, especially when he's shown that he's ready... ugh... I never remember seeing that comment... regardless of how he feels, you don't throw other players under the bus... is that out of context, or conjecture by the reporter? Did he actually make those statement, because if so, that doesn't sound like a guy you want on your team, regardless of talent level... and there it is... even better... this is a great signing, all things considered

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

Long haul, playoffs and all, there's no one in our system, or on the horizon that I feel confident taking over for Howard and that includes Osgood (as I still question his health) I still really think we may be letting one slip through the cracks by not giving Larsson a better chance, he pushed Howard for the starting gig in GR and absolutely shut it down in the SEL last year... why not give him a serious look in camp/preseason as the backup? If he doesn't work, roll with Joey Mac, or hell, even offer Osgood a contract then, I don't think he'll be signing anywhere else...

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

If they do indeed go this route (which I am starting to think KH is leaning towards), I will pull for Ozzie and won't lament the move, it just scares me a little... but like I said, I would be very happy if he went out with a bang...

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

This signing makes me think Kenny might actually be leaning towards Osgood, which is why he signed the insurance policy, which I am VERY hesitant of coming off of such a serious injury for a goalie and at his age as well... I love Ozzie and wanted him to go out on his own terms, but I don't think he's a better option than some of the guys still available... groin injuries are no joke, especially for goalies, ESPECIALLY for goalies who are 38... Before Osgood, I would rather, in this order, see our backup be: Conklin Larsson Leclaire

    Backup Goalie?

Good thing we don't play any games at the Joe, considering he has about a .01 win percentage there... oh, wait...

    Backup Goalie?

I don't have the link, but there was a report last week that he'd be open to coming back to Detroit to play for GR, as long as it was a 1 way deal, so he was making NHL money and that is what I suspect this is - They signed him to a 1 way deal, with the intention of him playing in GR, however, if needed, he's a good back-up plan...
  23. stevkrause

Wings re-sign MacDonald to 2 year contract

Insurance signing - He will be the starter in GR, unless something unexpected happens where neither Osgood or Conklin fill the roll, it's a good backup plan... he gets his money, with his one way contract to play in GR and the Wings can call him up and feel confident that he is at least competent if needed. Good deal for both sides Money was a big factor to him, I can guarantee it's a one way deal, but he will still play in GR - the one way deal just assures him NHL money... Correction, he didn't want to make AHL money - he's trying to secure his financial security for his family and I don't blame the guy, I don't think it was ever a pride thing for him, as much as wanting the guaranteed money...

Red Wings Name New Assistant Coaches

EDIT - As of 7/8, the assistant coaches have been named Jeff Blashill (WMU) and Bill Peters (Rockford Ice Hogs) Things have been scattered all around in other threads, about other topics, I figured this would be a good place to collect the ideas of the coaching vacancies specifically... As I already touched on in the other threads (and have been saying for 3 years, prior to McCrimmon's hiring) I would love to see Gallant brought on for the offense... as for the defense, I think Hitchcock would be an amazing pick up, but may end up being short term, as I'm sure he wants a head gig again eventually... With that said - here is a link to an mlive article potentially giving some wheels to the Hitch to Detroit rumors: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/06/red_wings_remain_hopeful_optim.html
