RFAs Who Did Not Receive Qualifying Offer

With the FA pool lacking this year, I'm throwing my name into the pool! There's a good market for 30-yr-old, 5'9", grinders with bad knees, right?

    no.

    What's going on?

You're new here, so you get a pass... but please read the forum guidelines and skim through the open topics already... all of this is already covered in other threads. With that said, welcome! EDIT - Also, whoever gave him a neg, this is his first post, give the guy a break...

    RFA/UFA Signings

Agreed, although I'd like Wiz here... a lot... I'd be ecstatic with a little under the radar, signings as well, adding depth. If all the big names out price themselves, Montador+Hejda would be an ok parting gift in my mind... Without a doubt and I hope he continues to struggle as a Cap, all the way to FA and a signing with the Wings!

    RFA/UFA Signings

Agreed completely, I was just getting at the fact that even though I think 5m is an overpayment for Wiz, I'd be ok with that, I just don't want to see us WAY overpay and give him more than that and handcuff ourselves in other ways, such as re-signing our current players (one could easily make an argument that Kronwall is a better player than Wiz and therefore, would command more)

I think they may be more in the need of a coaching change to be honest, with that talent, you put Hitchcock there and you have a Stanley Cup in 3 years...

    Well played!

you're silly. We also need to land a bona fide stud next off season when the unthinkable happens, so we can't overpay too much, and we also have to re-sign Kronwall and Stuart, both of whom will almost certainly see reasonable raises... I don't think I'd be comfortable with the Wings paying a penny more than 5 for Wiz...

Khubodin in Bos was a surprise to me as well, he's still a pretty promising young goalie, I would have expected them to at least quality him and try and send him back down to Providence...

and that's where it will come down to Wiz, if he want a little more $$, or a better chance to win...

RFAs Who Did Not Receive Qualifying Offer

I'll agree with you there for sure, I was more referring to the rest on that list not getting more than a 2-way deal... I'm very surprised WPG didn't qualify him...

The Wings need to make a splash on the D side and they may be forced to overpay, with that said, I think low to mid 4m range is what Wiz SHOULD get, but I wouldn't have a problem with the Wings going as high as 5 to secure him... any higher than that and I think you set a dangerous precedence for re-signing Kronwall and Stuart next year and I'd walk from it...

can you imagine him on a line with Dats?!? oh man...

    RFA/UFA Signings

Now seeing that price tag though, you gotta at least admit it was never happening here... that is at LEAST a mil more than he is worth...

    RFA/UFA Signings

I would have been all for him here at 2 to 3 tops, but that is a major overpayment

    RFA/UFA Signings

I don't know many people that wanted him here period, he's a good depth signing for TB and fits their system well, but I wouldn't want him here...

RFAs Who Did Not Receive Qualifying Offer

I'd be fine with Stewart coming on board... if we're going to sign a depth forward though, I'd still rather the Wings go out and get Cody McCormick for the cost and role he'd be filling... There's really no one else on that list that I'd be fine with just giving a job, any one of them would need to accept a 2 way deal and accept the fact they're going to be in GR unless the win a job in camp...

    Panthers Acquire Tomas Kopecky's Rights

I like to rip on Kopecky because he looks like Skelatore and, at times, looks like a newborn giraffe on skates with his balance issues, but all kidding aside, he is a serviceable 3rd/4th liner, he's just not a top player as he was given the time/job in Chicago and honestly, his numbers should have been even better given who he played with... As a side note, where've you been, haven't seen you on the board in awhile?

    Bergfors not qualified by Fla

So much potential and I just think bad situations for this kid, I'd like to see the Wings take a flier on this kid if there's any chance he'll sign a 2 way deal... if not, I'm not comfortable with giving him a roster spot(barring waivers obviously), but given the right circumstances, why the hell not? at bare minimum, come August if he still has no home, extend a training camp invite to him... EDIT - Sections bolded for those that seem to overlook them completely when replying.

He'll fit well there, they don't play hockey in Miami

RFAs Who Did Not Receive Qualifying Offer

There are a LOT of names on that list to like, given the right price tag... I'd take a shot at Stewart or Stortini wouldn't be bad here for some "sandpaper"... I also wouldn't mind seeing the Wings take a flier on Anssi Salmela as a 7th dman/GR bound guy and give him a shot in camp... There are also a few projects that would be nice, if they were willing to take jobs in GR and try and prove themselves in camp...

    RFA/UFA Signings

He was very good in their system and that is a great price tag... good signing for the Bolts, the only question now, is if he can stay healthy, but at that price tag, I guess it's not as big of a concern...

    Teemu Pulkkinen

I really want to see this kid in GR in two years to see how his game adjusts to the NA style, I've got to say, other than those already in the system (Smith and Tatar), Pulkkinen and Nyquist are the two prospects I am most excited about... I still feel really good about Sheahan too...

    Panthers Acquire Tomas Kopecky's Rights

and THEN send him to San Jose for Joe Thornton, who in turn would be shipped to Winnipeg for Zach Bogosian and a pic, who would in turn be sent to Phoenix for Keith Yandle and Shane Doan, who would then be shipped to the NYI for John Tavares and a pic, which would THEN be shipped to Washington for Backstrom and a pic, which would then be shipped to Calgary for Jerome Iginla AND Jay Boumesster (remember, this is Calgary here, they don't know how to trade), then these two would be shipped out to Tampa Bay for Steven Stamkos!!! I'm not sure how this all shakes out, but in the end, the butler did it.
