My perfect off-season (not that I think this is what the roster WILL look like, but this is what I am hoping for right now) for what we need, cost, etc, would be: **LINES ARE JUST SUBJECTIVE AND ARE JUST FOR FORMATTING PURPOSE** FORWARDS Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) Cody McCormick ($1.000m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.300m) Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / James Wisniewski ($4.500m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Steve Montador ($1.750m) Doug Janik ($0.512m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Ty Conklin ($0.900m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $58,054,544; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $4,145,456 This also leaves some good cap space for re-signing our assets next year as well as any trade deadline moves...

Well, if he has head coaching position prospects, chances are he won't be here, but I think he'd be a good fit and that would be very interesting...

Piss poor, it wasn't until they broke away from that model, that they started winning... When they started winning, was when they shed the dead weight of pure enforcers (NOT referring to Probert, although one of the best fighters of all time, he actually had more to his game) and added more skill to their team... especially in today's game (the "olden days" are poor comparisons, because it's a different game now) - wasting a spot on a one dimensional fighter is just that, a waste of a roster spot... I'd be all for McCormick, or a similar player that can give you a valuable 6+ minutes a night AND keep teams honest, but someone who is essentially a pylon and a defensive liability, with no scoring threat to their game is a waste of a roster spot.

come on, give the guy a break... look at these stellar numbers from these playoffs! 4GP 0W 4L 4.36GAA .879SV% If that doesn't command big bucks, I don't know what does!

how did Edmonton and NY finish in the standings last year? refresh my memory...
-
Who in their right mind would be crazy enough to take on that contract?!? especially coming off such a serious injury AND the fact that it is a 35+ contract with a lot of years left? a GM would have to be crazy to take on that contract and give ANYTHING of value back...
-
They've mentioned several times on NHL network and I've read several reports that the management was looking to trade one of the two... considering he'd get a pretty big return for a trade, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them deal him... EDIT - I know someone talked about it on their tweetaladoo... anyone know where there was from and can provide a link? I remember reading it... regardless, watch NHL network sometime and I'm sure they'll bring it up again...
-
I wouldn't be surprised if it happened, but I wouldn't expect Briere to be the one moved... Considering that the Flyers management has made it perfectly clear that they are fed up with their antics in the locker room and are openly shopping one of, or both, Richards and Carter... my money is on one of them being shipped off...
-
wow, this thread took a turn I never would have expected! An enforcer debate?!? on LGW?!?!
-
Start hedging your bets on who is traded away now, Carter or Richards - my gut tells me Richards is the one ushered out...
-
Now THAT is subjective... and arbitrary.
-
Now these 2 points, you and I could not agree on more!
-
fair enough and in all honesty, if this hit takes place in the neutral zone, I'd be more in agreement with your line of thought... granted, I'd still think it was a questionable hit, but not dirty, but entering the zone is a very vulnerable position when you don't have the puck, as you are forced to pay attention to so many other variables(stay onside, make sure the puck isn't turned over and you have to go the other way real quick, where the play is going, whether the puck is getting dumped, or carried deeper, etc...) On any note, I personally think the league got it right and as touched on earlier, I really wish they'd apply the same rules to all players, regardless of their star status...
-
you're probably right about the reasoning behind the suspension, but I don't think it makes this hit any more "ok"... it was a dirty hit and warranted the punishment it got.
-
I already said earlier in this thread that I may have gone over the top suggesting it carry over AND I think they got it right with what they handed out... I've been playing hockey for over 23 years, but the reason players need to keep their heads up, is to protect themselves - This does not exonerate someone who threw a dirty hit, because the receiving player didn't follow the golden rule. Specifically to rule 48, fine, that very specific rule, with its wording, does not apply here. It doesn't mean that it wasn't still a play that needs to be removed and/or isn't directly connected to that exact type of play... There's no way Horton wasn't getting hurt on that hit - moot point. Regardless of which side you're on, the league got the discipline on this one right. different league, different rules - learn to evolve and play within them, simple as that. The more I watch the video, the more I can see your argument on the charge, there are 2 clear strides (backwards, or forwards, each distinct motion still counts) but the 3rd one is murky... I'll admit when I'm wrong and on this account, I may be - however, I disagree completely on the "watching the pass" BS, you can even see Horton check the line and the linesman as he enters... he was in a helpless position and that hit needs to be given up, no matter how you cut it. Back to the suspension as well - they got it right, period. The one area the league needs to improve upon is consistency, because I agree that had it not been a star, it probably wouldn't have been so harsh, and that's wrong - The same rules, should apply to all players.
-
Seems fair all things considered - I'm surprised they actually got it right...
-
A player crossing the blue line, who DOESN'T have the puck, making sure he is onside, isn't helpless to you? People who actually respect their opponents and don't want quality players heads getting taken off on dirty hits, don't agree with me, so, no, "everyone" in the hockey analysis world does not disagree with me... Also, the 5+ games is subjective and may be steep, but I think they need to send a message at some point and have fallen short at doing so thus far... I can see an argument for him to not have a carry over into next season, but to suggest that he should not miss the remainder of the SCF is shortsighted and narrow-minded...
-
I'm well aware of what a charge is and I think they got the call wrong - It sure looked to me like he took more than 3 strides, also, Horton wasn't "watching his pass", he was checking to make sure he was onside and the hit was way later than "just a second" - That is a hit players need to give up, period. It was an incredibly reckless and careless play on Rome's part. The game needs respect back and this is becoming laughable, I don't want the game softened up either and I love a good, clean, hard hit and don't even have that big of a problem with the occasionally borderline dirty hit, as long as it's punished accordingly... well accordingly for this one, is 5+ games and since it's the playoffs, I think extra should be tacked on, due to its implications... Doesn't need to be "blindside", it was a clearly targeted shot to the head of a helpless player and those are the shots the game needs to remove

I think that is, and has been, the plan all along and is probably the reason that the renovations have been let go so long... the city owns the Joe and Mr. I just leases it, why would he foot the bill into renovations of a rental when there's no plans to stay there? That would be like renovating a house you rent and not expecting the landlord to pony up some of the cash... when the time comes to build the new arena (hopefully very soon) I think Mr. I, along with corporate sponsorship, plans to pay for the whole project... the arena WILL have a corporate name, but that's a small price to pay in my mind for a far overdue mecca that the Wings deserve. Also, to who mentioned developing a strip on the waterfront and bringing in restaurants, shops, bars and maybe a "boardwalk" so to speak, with the arena right behind it in its current location would be AMAZING, not only for the Wings, but especially for the city... of course, that would mean that Detroit would have to have the foresight, vision AND elected officials to make it happen, plus the $$, so..... it's sad too, because it could really help turn the city around... exactly... an attached lot that can handle 10,000+ vehicles... and Mr. I owns a TON of land behind the fox, it's not impossible and it would help him with parking for Comerica, Hockeytown and even Greektown to an extent, if he added a shuttle... it could (and is very feasible to) be done

I'm pretty sure it's the same poster from the way they post and from the content, layout and general train of thought of past posts, but either way... here goes - DRINK!!!!! :beerbuddy: :chug: :chug: :drunk: :beerbuddy:

blueadams, is that you?

The sight lines don't have to lost... as long as they come up with a similar design, the vantage points can be pretty similar, but it's a joke that the "luxury" boxes now are so far up, that you can't even see the game/event you're at and if you shell out that kind of money, you deserve a good vantage point and I'm sorry, but the 3-4 rows at the top SHOULD be the ones to make up the difference... As far as parking, if they build the arena ATTACHED to a massive parking structure, it could drastically HELP parking, not hurt it, not to mention other events... it only makes sense...
-
for sure, the visibility in the Joe is second to none and I agree with you there 100% and think that they should try to re-create that in the new arena, but they need better luxury lower bowl suites as well... I disagree completely about the concourse though, I think that needs to be improved upon drastically, from layout, entry points, to accessibility of concessions, to multimedia, to the single biggest one of them all - BATHROOMS, which are abysmal... that's where I'm hoping it will end up as well, preferably with a massive parking structure that is ATTACHED to the arena, which could also be used for Tiger's games, bars, casino access, etc...

Nostalgia and history are great... facilities, comfort, ease of access, parking, access, etc... all are TERRIBLE... It has great memories, but there comes times that you need to say good bye, the building is a relic and is falling apart and needs to go... just as it sucked to see Tiger Stadium go away for the same reasons, you can't always fix things with a fresh coat of paint and some new pads on the seats...

hey, even that is more than I have seen for a while now, unfortunately, it's not saying much we haven't been hearing for the past 3 years, but thanks for the link!
