You never mentioned trading for one of them in your original post... you said to sign them to an offer sheet. Those are COMPLETELY different things... and I was just using that as an example of how going out of the realm of reality just for the sake of something to talk about is not relevant, I was not comparing the two, don't take my words out of context, just because you're grasping at straws here...

yeah, lets not let something as silly as facts get in the way... http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/05/red_wings_ken_holland_not_apt.html point. set. match.

I think the vast majority here would agree with me... also realism ≠ pessimism There are plenty of UFA and trade options to discuss, so why dilute realistic discussions with impossible scenarios? Well were at it, lets discuss the option of trading Howard for Ryan Miller straight up... come on now...

Can we PLEASE drop this crap already - Kenny will not go after a RFA... this is a moot point. furthermore, if anything, they're LESS likely to let their RFA's get away, since True North has deeper pockets and Manitoba is a better market, so this whole thought is beyond flawed on multiple levels...

It's hard to speculate term, but I'd imagine it will be at least 4 years and the cap hit about 4.5-5.5 a year... obviously that caphit varies with term and if we lock him up to 5+ years, we can probably lower the caphit and lower it again if we add a NMC for at least the first 3-5 years of the deal (always risky in today's cap world though) - I'd also expect Stuart to see a similar deal as Kronwall, so lets hope they both are on board with taking a little less, for longer

Ken Holland: Open to trade to replace Rafalski

Let me preface this by saying I do NOT want Kovy's contract, nor do I think there's a snowballs chance in Africa of it happening, just playing devil's advocate here... but his defense got MARKEDLY improved the second half of this past season... he just needs a coach to hold him accountable... -

WAIT, I GOT IT! a 6 team deal, which somehow lands Boyle in DET, Kovalchuk in LA, Doughty in FLA, Booth in SJ, Yandle in NJ and a bag of pucks, a bag of Sour Patch Kids and the rights to the use of Red Bird II next summer when they relocate, in PHX huh, huh?!? :yowza: -

Hitchcock to Tor?

That's what I'd prefer, but he's good coaching the offense too and if that's where he's happy, I'd rather keep him there happy, than move him to D and make him want to look elsewhere...

I know you're just joking, but don't even put the thought in anyone's head that Lucic can be had! He'd take a kings ransom to pry away from Boston... I think it'd take something more like Cleary AND Kronwall(maybe more) for Lucic... not that it'd be even, but that's what Boston would want, something of that price... Now Boychuk on the other hand (especially with the development of McQuaid) could probably be had for Kindl and a pick or two

ok, I'll just repeat the same thing for the 15th time, just like everyone else has, in every other thread... it gets redundant and old... but you want an opinion? here it is: Sign Bieksa and Montador and call it a day. If Bieksa wants too much, explore trade options (*cough* Johnny Boychuk *cough*)... we need to leave some room for next year when the inevitable happens AND we have to re-sign Kronwall and Stuart as well, any big deals with FA essentially handcuff us with negotiations for those 2... Wiz will want too much coming off that year (probably close to 6m) and even Bieksa may want too much... I think Boston may be a reasonable trade partner, as they need to re-sign a few guys over the next couple years and with the development of some of their young d-men, they have a few they can move, especially if they want to keep Kaberle...

Ken Holland: Open to trade to replace Rafalski

Show me a link to ANY report stating that... Nashville can, and will, match a max contract if that's what it takes to keep him - they will not let the face of their franchise walk... People need to let this pipe dream go... now if he signs a one year deal, then you people can let the hamster wheel in your heads start churning, because then he'd be a UFA next year and then all bets are off, but I HIGHLY doubt he will ever get to UFA, as Nash will probably lock him up on a 10 year deal or something extreme like that, at probably 8m+ and if any team offers higher... they'll match that too... There is a <1% chance of Weber being a Wing next year and probably a <10% chance of him EVER being a Wing... -

Thanks? I haven't been posting as much lately though... what have I posted that's been so "out in left field", or is this just a playful way of pointing out that I may overuse the word asinine on this board from time to time? Which in my defense, only seems fitting, as no other word can properly describe a lot of posts here... On any note, I don't remember posting anything lately that could apply? -
Ken Holland: Open to trade to replace Rafalski
stevkrause replied to wingsownnhl43's topic in General
For starters, it would cost us more than that for the simple fact we'd be dealing with Chi, so we're giving up more assets and taking on a NTC, which are just bad to have in todays cap world, without a player having ever played a game for your team and not knowing how they will meld... next, regardless of us "having" the cap space, an overpriced contract IS a problem, because it sets bad precidence ESPECIALLY going into an upcoming year where you have to renegotiate deals with BOTH Kronwall AND Stuart and, regardless of how you spin it, two major injuries in back to back years is a bad sign, call it injury prone or not, it takes its toll... Also, just for the sake of pointing it out, Raffi at his prime is better than Campbell at his prime, so its not a trade off, its a poor comparison. Someone else with some sense... I was starting to feel alone here.. -

Ken Holland: Open to trade to replace Rafalski

Where should I start? 1. DRASTICALLY overpaid (by a lot more than 1.5m) 2. Has 3 YEARS left on said overpaid deal AND a NTC 3. Has been injured and missed almost a quarter of the season the last 2 years 4. in-division/in-conference trade 5. Specifically trading to the Hawks 6. ANOTHER left handed shot -

Bieksa would be perfect here... physical, defensively solid and has a good shot... now, anything over 4m, and he's probably not worth it, but to say he's not what we need is wrong... -
